do you know how to update my old app xcode project to this? I selected universal when it was xcode 5 now that its xcode 6 , my i ran the simulator for ipad im missing a button. when i put a check mark on my use size class my xcode freezes or stops responding...

Is there any way to use a Universal Storyboard but have the placement of objects be placed proportionally on the other screens? That way the sizes are adjusted as needed, but in the same position? I hope this makes sense.

I would be really interested in seeing how this is managed with more than some labels and images, meaning, it seems like the storyboard would get really complicated and confusing really fast. I've followed your tutorial and have an iPhone and an iPad in the main storyboard preview, but what happens when I add a label, after I select wCompact, hAny, like you've done, is that the label in the preview appears in the iPhone only (as it should), but not in the same place that i've put it, but displaced to the right. Any ideas why? Btw, the tutorial is great! Thanks

If I change, from the attributes inspector, the size of the Game View Controller to be for iphone 4, then the label goes to the center. However, that is not what I want. I want the size to be inferred. I am using xcode6 beta 6. Anyone having the same problem? Thanks

I've solved this by playing around with the constraints and auto layout features. After doing so and working a bit more with IB I decided to do everything programmatically again :) IB seems to be a great tool for prototyping but not so good if you want to work in a team.

the preview are not updating gaawd, when i place 'label' on the center of the storyboard, nothing is happening on the preview mode. urgh!

Novali, when you first create the project, for "Devices" you left "iPhone" selected. Does that setting matter, or do we get a Universal storyboard in all cases? On a related topic, when you create a blank project and add a storyboard manually, you get a choice of iPhone or iPad, but *not* universal. That seems to lead back to separate storyboards...

Update: in the empty starter project, Use Size Classes is not checked. Checking it does some conversion to "adaptive" storyboards.

I hate to sound completely ignorant, but would the conversion to "adaptive" storyboards allow for the images to be displayed proportionally throughout the other storyboards? I found that all the images in the different views were out of place using constraints. Appreciate any help

No, when u update to Xcode 6, the simulator will be running on iOS 8.

Universal storyboards have been introduced with iOS 8 only, hence not supported by devices running iOS 7 or previous. For iOS 7, you need two separate storyboards for iPhone and iPad.
