XCOM 2 is fantastic, but can really be brutal, especially on higher difficulty level. It's a game I'd definitely recommend starting on normal or easier difficulties for new players' first playthrough.

@@Teachermook the first mission in XCOM 2 is undoubtedly the hardest. Toward the end of the campaign even on the higher difficulties you can pretty much get 100% hit probability for every shot and especially with the WotC content you end up with so many options that you really need to mess up quite badly to take any damage at all. Whereas that first mission you have such low chance to hit and so few abilities that it's just brutal.

Honestly XCOM:EU is still a solid game and a different enough experience that I wish they'd bring it over to Switch also.

Was just thinking the same, I absolutely loved enemy unknown, it felt better to me than 2. The upgrades gradually going up instead of futuristic right away and defending our home turf instead of now alien built areas. This is all just my opinion and I'd understand why some people might like 2 better.

I put 120 hours in on this game when it first released on PC. I played everything ramped up to the highest graphical settings and one thing this port has taught me is that graphics aren't everything and I'm having as much fun playing this on the Switch as I ever did on PC. 40 hours in and counting.......and loving it!

I still remember the vita version of xcom 1, is on 20 - 15 fps. For me I am happy to have 34 - 28 fps. With decent looking graphics

To be fair, even the PC version had a lot of framerate issues on higher-end hardware for a very long time, so this isn't unique to the Switch. The performance on the Switch will hopefully improve as it continues to get optimized. It running as well as it is is impressive. Having the occasional framerate drop for XCOM is more bearable and less of an issue for XCOM than many other games being a turn-based strategy, so while it can be annoying, it generally doesn't come in the way of enjoying the game.

honestly a great game to have on switch, bad textures dont really matter when playing portable, and low framerates dont really matter when playing a turn based strategy game! Never got war of the chosen so im excited to try it out!

I already got this game on Switch. It runs well and I'm so happy that I never had a negative experience with the Switch version. I have it on Xbox One and as of late it crashed left and right, I could never get my first weapon upgrade before it inevitably crashed. However on Switch I was able to max out a lot of upgrades and never even crashed once. Virtuos did an excellent job with this port. While the Character Pool being bugged it's still fantastic. There are ways around it like doing it from the Avenger's Armory but that's EVERY Campaign you load up. So I hope it gets patched but this is the best port of XCOM 2 I've played. Here's to more games like XCOM Enemy Unknown/Within and even the recent XCOM Chimera Squad.

I’ve got the two weird versions XCom 1 on Vita and now XCom 2 on Switch.. Then again being a member of PS Plus I’ve also got the vanilla PS4 version too.. For me it’s one of those rainy day types of games.. The one and only issue I have with any Sid Meier/Firaxis material is you need A LOT of time to put into them.. In that respect they’re both a blessing and a curse.. I found this out at age 14 with Pirates on Amiga..

For me I've never quite felt the same rush from any other video game other than XCOM 1 and 2 when you take forever on one crucial mission, and you barely manage to succeed. It actually feels accomplishing and epic.

I don't know, that could be doubly rough if you're also getting butt kicked by aliens xD On another note eating foods high in fiber on a daily basis should take care of that bad constipation for good. I eat boiled potatoes (Not too high in fiber, but it adds up on a daily basis) and cucumbers daily. I'm pretty good as a result. Avoiding packaged food also helps. Apples, avocadoes and nuts are high in fiber as well. Constipation is usually due to low fiber levels, usually. What I really want is to have a crosssave with my steam version. That would be so great! I cant justify that much of a graphic downgrade and constant stutters(in portable mode) for the full price of it. BUT, if u can snatch it on sale, its worth it.

Old comment, but I probably started and stopped 20 playthroughs before I stuck with it to the end. The game actually isn’t suuuuuper long as long as you don’t meander. I’d recommend to start with vanilla, because there’s a little bit less going on. Then you’ll get a whole new game when you’re done!

2K should drop that annoying habbit of using small game card sized and having the user download the whole game even if you buy the physical version. I mean one of the benefits of a physical version is that there's a good chance that you'll be able to play the game 20 years from now. I'm not so sure about the lifetime of the game repository servers.

I would highly suggest to read the tutorials before and when playing, because this game can absolutely wipe the floor with You even during the first levels. Also, I kinda figure out the gameplay mechanics, but screwed up the Avenger building sequence (Guerilla Centre plus stacking up with engeneers is a must in the beginning), and ended up with restarting the campaing :).

Bought it two days ago some problems i found myself in the switch version! - UI issues (in handheld mode text is super small and sometimes menus disapear) - hacking bugs, where you fail a hack, but characters still come under your control - melee attacks are possible through walls ( bye bye ironman) - camera issues ( some action cam views just shows a wall) - forest maps foliage etc its rough to look and try to understand what is there... Hopefully 2K gets these problems cleaned up in the near future. That issues a part its a good port but that can break a game for ironman players .. The ironman is not a option :(

Finally bought a Switch (Lite) and the 4 games I’ve played so far have been pretty disappointing. Well I’ve got over 1000 hours on this on PC and probably a few hundred on PS4 so time for me to jump in again. Got the game downloading now (£6 in the sale right now!). Should be pretty terrifying playing without the True Concealment mod which only starts the timer after you’ve been revealed. Man this is going to be a journey

I got the game yesterday and have been loving it so far. I’m playing vanilla xcom 2 right now and haven’t seen any real issues with the game, except one thing which was kinda funny. I was doing the mission where advent raids a camp, and a sectoid decided it was a good idea to mind control a civilian lol. I got a good kick out of that, but I do think they should patch that out.

I saw one glitch in a vanilla playthrough where a viper pulled one of my characters onto a non traversable square and they got stuck in it once I killed the viper. I was able to finish the mission and save the character though

Before starting a campaign there is a check that doubles all mission timers. At least for WoTC.. im in a similar boat. The timers will still be there but you will have so many turns that you do not need to worry. There is a similar option for the 'Doomsday clock' (Avatar project)

Xcom 2 for Switch looks as good as the newly released iPad version, which is odd, since late model iPads have far faster GPU and CPUs.. They could have easily optimized the iOS port to make it nearly on par with the PC version.

Wotc definitely has more performance issues than vanilla. Wotc just has ton more happening in any one mission, especially if it has the Lost. If your new to XCOM I'd recommend you start with vanilla anyways, it's more approachable.

Hello, can someone explain the GBS needed for the digital and physical version? The game box and the digital version indicates 24GBS but it doesn’t make sense, using the cartridge requieres the same GBS as if you download all in the eshop?

To my knowledge the cardrige is 8GB and so the dlc Download will require 17gb for the rest of the game. The digital will require 24gb since it's all digital but still all the same content, being that the physical has 8gb storage you'll only need 17gb for the rest of the game, each version has the same amount of content so it's really about preference.

Before you read this be aware that I'm playing on switch lite so I can only play handheld, so I dont know if these problems are present on docked mode. I am happy with this port of xcom 2 since its my favorite game ever, I pre-ordered the game and have been playing it a lot. but i'm having lots of problems and frustations with performance in late game, so lets start. The bridge and the avenger menus starts to lag a lot in mid/late game, its not really a huge problem but worth to say anyway. And now for the worst part is in the missions. There is framedrops and I find that completely normal for this game Game breaking glitches I encountered so far (not sure if some of these are present in other plataforms): Squadsight is broken, sharpshooters and reapers wont have sight beyond their normal vision until you save and load the game in order to fix it (you have to do this everytime you move them I think). Game freezes when moving soldiers for at least 10-60 seconds (even minutes sometimes). Game freezes and then crashes when doing the same thing as above, and its been happening constantly Game sometimes changes targets to the original one (instead of shooting a codex the game reset the target and I accidentally shot the VIP). Grappling hook likes to ignore what you wish to do and instead goes for a completely different place. Target preview seems to be broken? while these things are happening to me, I can still enjoy the game just fine, its a great port, could be better but its good either way and I hope they patch the game. (hopefully my english was fine and not a disaster)

I got this for 20 bucks in physical format and it is a steal for that. I am not a technical person but can anyone tell me why the base scene graphics have to suffer so much ? I mean, it looks like mud across the screen. I would think staticish base scenes would not have to suffer graphically so much. It really is the only off putting thing to my eyes.

Yeah first thing I noticed when i started this game on switch...was the bug sadly as I'd premade my roster the night before truly starting and for some reason it kept the names but my men became chicks with dreads and my women became randomly disturbing guys... they also got forced in that depressed stance which god it annoys me. Also... I'm not sure if this was a bug or what but...when I saved and quit the game one night my avatar progress was at four blocks... I load up the game (after correcting my pool again) and the exact save I made the day prior when is topped boots up but avatar progress was at seven blocks... worse second I started scanning something four new buildings popped and avatar jumped five more.... and I was on easy to get used to the controls.... the game needs a big patch as it's... painful right now to play. I love the game but..not when it feels like I'm being screwed over by the game itself. My resource income also seems to be drastically ticking downward every day that passes... I'd start the game up having had my income at 350 and when it shows up it's only giving me 25 resource. I..do hope they iron out the bugs...

There are so many bugs and crashes in this version of the game it’s insane. But I love Xcom 2, so I don’t care. Probably the worst bug I encountered was an overwrite savefile, that instead deleted the save file. Had to start over.

If you’re looking for a game for an 8 year old I’d highly recommend animal crossing new horizons! It’s fun for them and will give them countless hours of enjoyment and you will likely enjoy it too!

For a good introduction to the genre I recommend Mario Vs Rabbids. It's much more accessible than XCOM but still challenging if played on hard.

I really tried to hate this game... but I couldn't, I usually try to be somewhat critical with games I buy because I only buy games I really want to keep and replay, I rented Xcom on switch from gamefly and played it for the first few hours and instantly got addicted. Wait times can be a bit long and I can see some frame drops and the lower resolution during few instances but even that couldn't make me hate the game, the gameplay and designs are just pretty good. This is my first time playing and I'm glad I gave it a chance.

Some 60$on xbox plus the 40$ expanded and then u might get lucky find sale but rn itd on Nintendo switch from 12$! That's a fkn steal if this's even more solid and bettert than the other earlier ports and less buggy less crashes and actually worked then maybe it's buy of thr yr game wise lol. Never played the series before but I downloaded for my switch for £10 yesterday and with all the patches (apparently it's had) ironed out some issues.. I can't stop playing its very addictive... love the gameplay but also how you can customise your characters, write a bio and change their looks... just a nice little cool touch! If anyone kills my Burt Gummer from tremors I'm gonna be pissed!

Wait for a sale, 89.95 AUD is a joke price. Just discovered Deku Deals which seems to give it in your own currency/eshop. Seems Xcom2 has been as low as $36, so I'm certainly not paying 90.

@@Skippy-id9yt ya got it. If you can put up with the performance inconsistencies that happen all the time and don't mind low fps, there's a good game here. On my OG Switch performance is MUCH worse than reviews would have you believe. But then again they're likely playing on the updated hardware that has better cooling thus unthrottled performance. Edit1; Some games I gather won't play nice with launch Switch hardware (assumption), based on my anecdotal experience of my OG launch Switch having obvious trouble running Xcom2 for anymore than an hour, at which point performance gets progressively worse, till I have to give the Switch a rest to cool down, or put up with the shoddy performance+making bugs/crashes more likely to occur.

I've had the game freeze on me multiple times, for minutes at a time. XCOM 2 is great, but the Switch hardware just isn't up to the task. I want my money back.
