The only reason I found that mission easy in EW was because when my soldiers ran away as fast as I could, the Chryssalids had to use both actions just to catch up. Sure, they could catch up with my soldiers every round, but they couldn't attack. That's not going to work. Still, at least it's not a cruise ship.

I've never had them spawn when I'm running for extraction. My tactics for that mission are: - Slowly explore as much as I can before approaching the ship. Triggering spawns and eliminating them one by one on the turn they spawn. - Pop the fish carcases early if I've got no active enemies, preventing a spawn. - When I reach the whale, I take up position above it and kill the chryssalids as they spawn until they stop spawning. At most I have to kill three a turn. - Get a solder to the transponder. - End the turn - Activate the transponder - Run to the extraction point.

The XCOM team just floors me sometimes. Something like this just out of the blue, for free? And it.... doesn't look even remotely like something they just threw together in five minutes so they could say they did, or something like that. Consider if they weren't profiting, you wouldnt be enjoying this series. You'd get crappy, trash, half done games. So let's encourage profits! They deserve it. They have their priorities straight and appreciate the fan base enough to deliver. They keep bringing a superior product. If these guys were just Uber nerds not caring about profit, the underwriters would shut this series down so fast it would make your head spin. Video game development is not cheriety. It's hugely expensive.

I'm sure we'll eventually mod it in, but throwing it out there? There's only one thing that's missing from your soundtrack options and it'd be great if it were there at launch: All Three/Randomized. It won't be for some, but I, for one, would love to come back to the UFO Defense geoscape music after hearing some of Michael McCann's hard-hitting XCOM: Enemy Unknown tracks. Or maybe even have something softer and more ambience-based by Roland Rizzo from the EU soundtrack transition into that hype-as-hell UFO Defense track once we're spotted. It could be pretty triumphant for the more tense tracks Tim Wynn did for XCOM 2/War of the Chosen to transition to that awesome Mission Completed track from EU that really sells the feeling that you stuck it to ADVENT hard.

I lost my boy Zhang during that mission. He was ahead of the Chyraslids for a while so I had him hold is ground and kill a bunch as they approached. He fought well, but had to reload at the worst times.

So, our rag-tag resistance forces can actually look the part now? Sweet! One of my biggest issues with XCOM 2's base game customization was always how clean and superior the tier 2 and 3 weapons and armor looked. Most of the unmodded equipment looked superior to the armaments the aliens were using. If we're playing as guerrilla freedom fighters with limited resources then we should look the part. Also, hurray for new backstory missions that hopefully won't get retconned in XCOM 3 when we find out all the accomplishments we made in XCOM 2 were yet another dream while being held captive by the aliens who defeated our resistance movement in a matter of hours. Or it turns out both XCOM games are part of a multiverse and both victory scenarios for the first two games are canon. Seriously, the narrative for this awesome series is kinda convoluted if you think about it.

To echo the sentiments of Quipthulu - This is absolutely incredible! I'm absolutely on board with this! That said, seriously hope this just adds, and thus doesn't do/change too much on the game fundamentals, thus breaking the jenga-tower of mods (over 1000 personally, but I know most run less) many of us have. Main problem is a lot of modders have left the scene over time and aren't there / too jaded to update / rescue their mods into the modern age - meanwhile many are against "dirty porting" ie another modder updating who isn't the original modder, even if nobody knows where they've vanished to or if they'll ever be back. TL;DR. This is awesome in the extreme! But brace yourselves folks, strange, possibly dark times may be coming.

I played UFO Enemy Unknown back than when I was fourteen - now I'm a bit older, but the only game that takes me back to these childhood times is XCOM! I really dig FireAxis' passion and commitment to the series - so I tip my hat to you ladies and gents, because what you created will be known to future gamers as a masterpiece!

Such good timing, Firaxis ! It comes when i saw Xenonauts 2's closed beta for backers was postponed to november and i didn't know what tactical i would play meanwhile, after Phantom Doctrine... Perfect timing... Perfect excuse to drown myself again in War of the Chosen :)

OMG!!! I JOINED INTO THE XCOM FAMILY LIKE A YEAR AGO, I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I BOUGHT THE DLCs, NOW! A NEW EXPANSION PACK!!! LOOKS AMAZING! KEEP GETTING BETTER, (development) CENTRAL!
