Not really a miracle...when everyone has a repeater you're basically guaranteed to get the instant kill as long as EVERYONE shoots the ruler every turn

Same happened to me with the Viper King. I had my Hunter on overwatch and she had her weapon with a 5% chance to insta-kill. Killed the King before he even got to attack. One shot, one kill. So much luck!

Yes, getting the instant kill from the repeater have a very low chance of being triggered. So yes, very lucky to get that on a shot against the Archon King.

Yeah first thing i notest he already got plasma weapons i did get him like in mid game where i still had Magnetic weapons.😀 Not to mantion that you don't know where you get him in the game and i would esther go with criticall chance than with instant lucky kill.

I just did this in my last game. Was down to my last shot and he had one of my soldiers up in the air who would have died on the Archon's action. My last soldier available had a 37% chance to hit. All I was hoping for was to get lucky and make him release the soldier up there. Not only did he release the soldier, but he was executed. It took a few moments to sink in.

It happened to me at a Retaliation site. The Archon flew up above most of my troops and one of my Rangers below him had an advanced repeater. So i went for a Hail Mary and took the shot. Instakill

Just stumbled across this video looking in my quest to discover away to not get completely owned by the archon king. The strategy here seems to be equip a bunch on superior repeaters and pray to the rng gods. 😢

Always need to bring the best equipment to maximize your chance of survival. I happened to have a repeater, and got lucky with the shot...

Skirmisher's zero in, Spark's overdrive, Reaper's banish abilities, or even anyone with hair trigger; these are the best to slap a repeater on. After that, any Ruler is a joke. You can basically have starter weapons but a repeater will do the job :) Finding them is the real issue though. They're not usually on black market in my campaigns.

I did that at my first encounter with the Archon King, executed him at FIRST shot, thought it was a glitch or something but no, he was just executed in like two seconds after first contact!

Now with War of the Chosen, you just have to throw a bunch of claymores next them the and shoot them with rupture. If that doesn't kill them, banish will finish them off.

I got a golden turn vs the Viper King in my game. He ran into a corner to bind my bladestorm ranger and got sliced up before hes attack. after that i ran my Templar in next to slice him aswell and he had also bladestorm from the x-com ability pool. For the next 2 actions the Viper King toke he tried to bind 1 of those 2 soldiers and got sliced up becouse of both having bladestorm. He hasent killed but left the field through the gate with 5 hp after another 2 slices as he was running to the gate. In summery he did 3 reactions before runing away and got sliced up 7-8 times i think including the 2 regular sword and psi-blade attacks.

Man that's damn luck you have. He wipe out my whole team 3 time, with his Blazing Pinions, either everyone got disorient, stun or knock unconscious, I only manage to get him to escape after losing 2 of my team after reloading 3 times and damn the mission just got started and he is the first enemy on the map. I was not prepared. Spend a lot of hours stuck on these.

Andy Fate, I know this was a while ago, but use a Psi Operative's Stasis to move people away from Devastate. Alternative, use a Gas Bomb, since the Rulers will not move in them.

Repaeters are so lame, I don't use them. Though I did take out a 112 hp archon King in one turn (+overwatch) without it the other day. Overwatch from out of sight with a long watch sniper and a reaper scout combined with some rangers & templars with bladestorm as follow up is extremely powerful against alien rulers

Why dident u just avoid him untill later with better weapons/skills? The game tells u that a very powerful enemy is guarding this facility. He isent even available untill later in the game so i must assume that u fought against the other 2 rulers first so u should have known how they worked.

@@dannyrodin1151 If u played on easy i can only assume that u stacked your guys up to close to eachother and more then 1 soldier got hit by her ground slam each time and that is the worst thing u can do on maps with rulers. A very effective trick to find the rulers is to have your main team stay far back and scout ahead with a Reaper or a scout ranger. If u triggered her in the middle of your turn and dont have a frost bomb or frost breath from the Viper king armore to freeze her then recruit or legend it dosent mather her AOE ground slam will wreck u. The rulers were designed to be hardcore bosses and if u trigger them in a bad way then they are definatly worse then the 3 chosen.

He squad wiped me 3 times in a row, made me loose 3 missions and made me loose 3 regions and wiped my a emergency squad. My eberything or nothing squad. I hate him he is to strong. There is no way to counter him besides high damage output and fricking high aim stats or garanteed damage attacks

equip a grendeer that has salvo and heavy ordnace with frost bomb make shure frost bomb is on the second slot for two chages, frost him, use acid grenade from another soldier to melt the armor, frost him again, atack him again, if you have the serpend suit you can frost him for more 2 turns, this will help a lot in the fight, and use skills that dont take actions like the axe from rangers. this will help a lot in the fight, if you dont kill him you will force him to run away. hope it helps

... defeated him before he did a reaction... I was hidden, found him Claymore-banish with supexpanded mag =9+6+6+7+5+7+6 reaper only 46 damage.. reaper revealed, archonking revealed... Then 1 ranger rage strike/berserker armor free move 1 ranger throw axe/free move then go to him and slash NOW its his turn... He moves, next to 2 rangers with bladestorm and shows himself to my 2 sparks, who could also shoot and sniper on overwatch... But the darn thing died from my bladestorm My moves 4, his move ---dual bladestorm and he dies

If you don't want the chance to get the Execute effect, don't equip the Repeater ...

@@LarsMHansen I want it against regular enemies, since the variance is not too much. But against Rulers it is too cheesy IMO. (Note that e.g. Mimic Beacons already don't work.) It's just a mod I threw in an empty slot because I had nothing better to put there and forgot about it. And then it worked on the Ruler....

I believe it's the stock on the weapon that gives you a chance to "execute" (one-shot kill) any enemy.
