I think people often fail to realize how much a beast of a drummer Gunil is. Definitely, he is the most virtuostic among them because he's a drum scholar at Berklee College of Music.

I promise the drummer (his name's Gunil) is not unhappy, he's just concentrated. He's actually quite silly when he's off stage lol. 😅😂 They're quite involved in the composing and writing process. I absolutely agree about the vocals, specially with Gaon (rhythm guitar) & O.de (keyboard & synthesizer) considering that they mainly do the rapping in their songs, their vocals are fantastic. Don't even get me started on Jungsu (keyboard) and Jooyeon (bassist), their voices make me feel like I'm ascending. I have to listen to their song Good Enough (live or studio version, doesn't matter) at least once a week, and their vocals there still give me goosebumps. JYP genuinely scored gems with them.

Xdinary Heroes are one of my top 3 favourite Korean groups. You won't find any other group quite like them. As you are finding out, their vocals are superb. Jooyeon has one of the best voices in K-pop imo. Their name is pronounced X dinary, not Extraordinary. (It is short for extraordinary though). They always stand in the same order, so that is going to make it easy for you to learn their names, no excuses 😅 They are involved in writing and composing their music. And you will appreciate their amazing talents even more when you know that two of them spent years training to join an idol dancing group, but were suddenly switched to debut in XH. So they had to learn to play an instrument from scratch! You were asking about mvs. I recommend Hair Cut. It's a fantastic song that epitomises their uniqueness, and the mv is creative, quirky and full of swag. Another live clip is Pirates. This is absolutely superb and one of their best songs.

The performance in a white room you're thinking of is probably their cover of Tomboy by (g)i-dle. It's by far their most popular cover they've done. As for how involved they are in their music, for their first couple albums I don't think they were really that involved in the lyrics and composing. But that's changed pretty quickly as they've matured, so as of their latest album Livelock (the one that Pluto is on), most of the members have writing credits on all the tracks except Bad Chemical which seems to have been done by some writers that work w/ JYP frequently. Now, they are usually credited along with other songwriters, so I'm not sure exactly how involved they are, like if they're given a skeleton of a song and build on it or they build the rough draft and the songwriters polish it up. My guess would be a mix depending on the song. And there are a few that we know which members were most involved in the writing. From the album before this, Deadlock, they had their first 2 slower ballad-like songs Good Enough and Dear H. Good Enough was mainly written by the leader/drummer Gunil based on a poem he wrote in college about an unrequited crush (and bc he lived in the US from middle school to college this is their only song so far entirely in English) with some help from YoungK from their big brother band Day6 (who also just had their first comeback since finishing their military services so if you like XH then definitely go check them out). The lyrics for Dear H were mostly written by the main guitarist Junhan, and bc it's more a soft rock ballad you can hear his influence in the instrumental as well.

actually i you go back to the beginning of this performance video, it states who did Lyrics, Composition etc. And yes Xdinary Heroes do a lot of work on writing and composing their music. I believe Dear H which you reacted to earlier was lyrically written by one of the members Jun Han (the riffing guitarist who is shy which I think gives the reason as to why he is placed the way he is in the back with Gunil the drummer).

I agree, the vocalist on display here, are really top notch, it is a fantastic band, and i also love the grand style of rock on offer here, yes i too want gloriuos rather than agressive style rock. I would add that, if you have not yet discovered them... you might want to take a slight side-step into J-Rock, and check out 'One ok Rock', a fantastic band, butthe vocalist Taka, is absolutely astonishingly good [i mean, seriously, i was stunned, stunned, and im a big fan of british 'classic rock' music, so im not that easily impressed]
