@@liamvalencia2415 "Robbed" is the wrong word, USSR were unlucky with the score @ 2 -1 BELGIUM scored what looked to be an offside goal to level the score @ 2 - 2. In extra/over time BELGIUM scred 2 goals and USSR scored 1 so the game finished 4 - 3 to BELGIUM.

The '86 World Cup was Football at its peak in my opinion. Fast, athletic, and littered with players of fabulous flair and technique. Then came the era of the "pressing" game, with players concentrated in a small area of the pitch and the classic "Playmaker" throttled out of existence. Then there was "Tika-Taka", technically and tactically dazzling, but so bloody tedious to watch - with one team hogging possession for 75% of the match. Top level football is purely a money making industry today - rather like Hollywood. It has lost its soul.

Typically someone whom only watches these old highlights reels and gets all emotional. A lot of WC 86 was played at pedestrian pace because matches were played round 2-3pm local time in 35+ C temperatures to accommodate European audiences, that's why you don't see not a night game at this tournament. Expect the same in USA 26. But anyway, football has evolved but hasn't gotten worse, it's more about money absolutely, but a top transfer at that time was 1M freaking pounds or something. The defending in that period was a mix of recklessness, incompetence and often laughable, a mediocre striker now would easily score many goals back then.

And they had Ukrainian players of course.. the 86 and 88 side were primarily made up from the Dynamo Kyev team with Litovchenko playing for Dnepr and Aleinikov from Minsk...Dasaev played for Spartak Moskva

Me too! It was an action packed world cup featuring Maradona at his very best, and I was turning five years old when it happened. I clearly wasn't old enough to be interested in football at the time because I remember nothing of it, I only knew that Maradona had robbed us (I'm English) and I bought a video featuring all the goals of the tournament three or four years later.

The soviet Union was one of the best teams technically and physically but the lacked the italian pair so they would have gone far in the 1986 World cup in Mexico this has been the problème of the russians for a long Time they do not play warmly

СССР играл сильно как сборная, после распада СССР...ни одна страна не могла похвастатся успехами на большом турнире...если не считать выступление России успехом, в 2008ом или 2018ом...украинцы как отдельные игроки получше будут русских, но как команда не играют вместе успешно!
