The episode reminds me of Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock. In the movie, Admiral Kirk and the Enterprise crew go rogue as they travel to Genesis to retrieve Spock's body and bring Spock home to Vulcan so Spock's Katra (Which was transferred to Dr. McCoy in a mind-meld) can be returned to his body so Spock can live again.
