Xenagos, God of Revels | Commander Tune-Ups #26

Had a 2060 damage turn 4 xenegos game. I forever love this deck. T1) Mana crypt, Taiga, Combat celebrant, T2) mountain, Jeweled Lotus, sneak attack T3) mountain, Sac Jeweled lotus, Cast Xenegos ~Opponent Wheel of Fortune~ Kessig wolf run, Worldspine wurm, Pathbreaker Ibex and Old Gnawbone, Deflecting swat, BoP, Forest into my hand. T4) Play kessig wolf run -Sneak attack in Worldspine Worm, Pathbreaker Ibex, Old Gnawbone -Trigger Xenegos on Worldspine making 30/30 trample, Move to combat Exerting Combat Celebrant giving me a second combat, and Triggering Pathbreaker Ibex to make all +30/+30 -Worldspine hits (60) Old Gnawbone hits (37) Combat Celebrant hits (34) Pathbreaker Ibex hits (33) -Old gnawbone creates 164 treasure tokens. Sacing 164 tokens to give Worldspine +162 from kessig wolf run, Making Worldspine worm 224/60, Moving to second combat from Exerting combat celebrant. I double Worldspine worm with Xenegos to make him 448 Power and pathbreaker ibex giving everyone +448/+448 and trample. All hit second combat for 2310. First combat was 164 damage = 2060 damage turn 4.

For those watching this after Throne of Eldraine came out, I recommend adding Embercleave as a Godo target, it equips itself on landing, makes Godo a 4/4 trample double striker, which thanks to Xenagos will be an 8/8 haste hitting for 16 first combat and 32 the next. Way better than Blackblade Reforged.

You guys should do a precon tune up. Like $50 or $100 in upgrades to each of the commander 2019 precons. Also, thanks for the great content guys😄

I remember the first time I played a xenagos deck. I had to face down a 24/24 ghalta with trample and double strike. I was at full health and died in one shot. I still have nightmares about that deck..

I actually really like See the Unwritten and I would not have cut it. Also cutting Cultivate and Kodama's reach seems like a very odd choice because those are some of the best ramp spells for a 5 cmc commander since it ensures at least a turn 4 Xenagos if you didn't ramp at all before turn 3.

As a Xenagos player myself, I can tell you that putting a mage slayer + a xenagos trigger on to a malignis and attacking into one player taking them out is so satisfying. You can make it an even more disgusting combo with a fling

Thorn Mammoth gives repeatable creature removal with his triggered ability, and he is also a nice beater with trample

Cards and combos in this deck are for sure amazing - I personally use some of these in my Ur-Dragon deck and I can confirm that they work perfectly :D

@@NitpickingNerds the most important one is obviously Savage Ventmaw + Aggravated Assault as it goes infinite and one that also can work here is Selvala, Heart of the Wilds + >4 power creature + green dork + Aggravated Assault that incidentally works out the same way as assault untaps every creature and it doesn't have to attack. For more of a synergies I also like to throw some dragons, then Atarka, World Render and/or Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury for huge overrun. Nesting Dragon tokens as a food for Vaevictis Asmadi trigger also works great. So Atarka might be good addition here as a flying beater with trample and double strike that can smash somebody on her own. EDIT: she works with any dragon so Scourge of the Throne also gets buffed :D For mana I'd consider here Carpet of Flowers (meta dependend but might work wonders in bigger CMC decks) and Selvala, Heart of the Wilds since my Ur-Dragon and this Xenagos deck want to have beaters and there are times when you don't have Savage Ventmaw to start the combo or you just want some more mana to summon another beater or cast big spell. I hope this reply didn't get too long, just checked out my list and thought of some additions for this list :)

Spinebiter and Thorn Elemental are two cards worth considering for this deck. Spinebiter in particular could easily one-shot players a decent amount of the time

How about gruun, the lonely king from dominaria? Play him kicked he's a 10/10 that when he swings alone he doubles his own power. Without any extra swinging with a 40/40 could be good. That and fling means you could get a potential double kill in one turn lol

If we revisited Xenagos we would definitely put in Embercleave. Not a huge fan of Fireshrieker though, it's pretty slow
