1 huge tip is to set-up ur action bars in the same way as ur mouse layout. 3x4 is what i use and it made it super easy to remember/learn where what button is.

Honestly having an MMO mouse for other tasks is a good idea as well. If you enjoy editing videos, having 12 shortcut keys can improve your speed by a lot. I even find having more than 2 buttons for fps games really good as you don't have to take your fingers off WASD at all. It even helps in Minecraft lol
@iPlayOnSpica
@iPlayOnSpica 2 жыл бұрын
For fps games though, I think it's better to have a lightweight mouse suitable for your hand size. I used to like the G502, for example, but after playing with the G Pro X Superlight, I can no longer go back despite the latter having much fewer buttons. I still use the G502 for everything outside of fps, but it is getting old. I'm thinking of replacing it with the G600 MMO mouse since I no longer need an "all-purpose" mouse that is in the middle ground between shooter and MMO oriented.

You could also use a mouse with only 2 buttons on the side.. But change those buttons to ALT and CTRL. This way you can use the keyboard for 1-6 and some other letters. While holding the mouse to switch to ALT or CTRL instead of moving the hand in wierd positions on the keyboard.
@rtbear674
@rtbear674 2 жыл бұрын
I think those might works great as well. I was just thinking something similar. I got 6 additional buttons for my mouse at the top (2, left click, 2, right click, 2). currently it's set to shift 1-6 only. But I think I'll just repurpose those 6 buttons to 1-6, and use ALT, CTRL, or SHIFT on the keyboard to run different hotbar. Luckily I haven't purchase the 12 buttons mouse yet. Mouse 1-6 (Normal Combo) Left Pinky = shift + Mouse 1-6 (Cooldown attack combo, or like red mage full melee combo) Left palm = ctrl + Mouse 1-6 (Buff, Heal, or damage mitigation) Left thumb = alt + Mouse 1-6 (whatever) yeah, just by those extra 6, I can have 24 buttons. and it's easier to reach than keyboard key 6.

Yep. I agree with changing the bar layout to match the mouse button layout. I changed into a 3 across and 4 down for each bar. It doesn't perfectly match up to the angle my hand is at on the mouse but after a day of using it that way my muscle memory was able to connect seeing the hotbar and translating that to my thumb

Yes dood! more Xemo content I use an FPS mouse so I only have 2 buttons which I bind to Alt/Ctrl modifiers, also use shift, and use close keybinds like QERTY, FGCVB,123456. I think its nice for not having an MMO mouse.

I do pretty much the same but I have 3 buttons on the side so I have a total of 4 bars. no-mod, ctrl, shift, alt. One extra thing I did was to bind scroll left / right on 11/12. This way I have access to 8 more binds just with the mouse itself. It's actually excellent for utility actions

in WoW I made all my hotbars invisible until I hovered over them (they were small, tucked away in the corner). All the important cds and uptimes were tracked by an addon, which I set up to be right underneath my character. Only then I didnt look at my hotbars all of the time (which wasnt even necessary because I knew all my buttons at heart). Doing that was a gamechanger and I can recommend trying it. (In FF14 I use a big hotbar in the middle of the screen where I track my CDs, works well enough)

I use 1-6 and shift/alt modifiers and q,e,r,t,v binds with shift/alt modifiers and a naga. Depending on my modifier I know of its a rotational or cooldown ability, whatever. But the key i think is to develope a organization and use it across all characters for like skills. I do like to have a bar, slightly enlarged for cooldowns to use for visual reference for important cooldowns as well which I find helpful.

I don't have an MMO mouse so I instead make do by putting all my stuff that I'm going to use regularly from 1-6 since I can reach those easier, with ctrl, shift, and alt as modifier keys. I do agree that keeping buttons consistent between jobs is really helpful. I do still admittedly click a bit, but mostly for very rare situations (like Anatman lmfao). One other thing I do that keeps me consistent is each modifier key is for certain things - shift is for AoEs, ctrl and nothing are for single target, with ctrl being for more 'secondary' things or alternate things in the same spot, and alt for buffs. For monk in particular, I have all my stance-based attacks on the same numbers, so my rotation is always 1-2-3, with ctrl or shift to use a different one as necessary. Makes it all easier - in any case though, great video! Definitely really good tips in here.

So my hot bars are set up like world of warcraft (2 main ones- bar 1 & 2, two right side mounted ones- bar 3 & 4, and two to the right of my main bars- bars 5 & 6). Bar 1's Keybinds: 1-6, QEVFRG. Bar 2's Keybinds: Shift+1 through Shift+=. Bar 3's Keybinds: ctrl+shift+1 through ctrl+shift+=. Bar 4's Keybinds: alt+shift+1 through alt+shift+=. Bar 5's Keybinds: F1 through F12. I use a Corsair Scimitar MMO mouse and in iCUE I put in a Macro that G1-G12 is 1 through =, thereby allowing me to substitute Bar 2, 3, 4 to shift+MB1, ctrl+shift+MB1, alt+shift+MB1 etc. Works out well

With a bit of training, putting your hotbar up and placing your speels to make muscle memory possible then its completely fine and you can have your focus on the middle of your screen. Great video tho, i had fun watching it :)

I only have a few extra buttons on my mouse, but mapped 1-6 and then some letters that allow me to keep my hand in place as much as possible. Then use 1 mouse button as shift and another for control. I keep my AOE rotations in one spot, single target in another , etc. So glad to see the way I organize things makes sense to others. I'm sure I can optimize it, and will as I learn more jobs.

Hey Xeno, I know this video is a few months old. I too use MMO mouse and my piece of advice for those who just bought the mouse is to set up their hotbar HUD to 3x4 instead of 12x1. This is because most if not all MMO mouse 12-buttons are mapped as 3x4, this is way easier for the body to memorize. As for mouse, I do prefer logitech just because it has g-shift that you can remap to shift/ctrl/alt, whichever you think is hardest to hold/press. Also, it's the cheapest. Although I wouldn't mind paying extra if they release a wireless one (pls logitech). For cleaner setup, you could also recommend dynamic/collapsing hotbar setup for jobs/markers/macros that you rarely use. There are plenty of guide on the internet, similar thing, check it out. Last but not least, not related to hotbar, but HUD. You can try to put your focus target HUD to near your hotbar/central vision and not on top/peripheral vision, this way you don't have to keep looking at top to see what skill they are going to use.

Ultimately the best control scheme is the one you have the most muscle memory for. I've seen PoVs of "skill clickers" performing extremely well at all levels of play in FFXIV, including solo healing Ultimate fights. If you change nothing else, an mmo mouse would at least allow you to further minimize the time you're looking down, and help keep up momentum

I do the same thing, ever since WoW. I set my bars up in 14 similar to wow and each job has the same layout for basic combos/cooldowns/pots/etc. I just know where stuff is to click. This is part muscle memory and part the fact I have giant meat mitts for hands and fat fingering is a real issue for me, same with an MMO mouse, way too many wrong buttons hit. Works for me though and it won't keep anyone from clearing hard content.

What I do, I use a two button mouse (you can youse a 3rd button if you need a 3rd modifier. But I bind 12 buttons to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Q, E, R, F, G, Y, X - and then I put Alt and Ctrl modifiers on the mouse buttons (with mosue software), because my left pinky is basically useless for pushing the modifier keys. I prefer pushing the modifier keys with my thumb on mouse buttons. Also my right hand is overwhelmed with more then 3 extra mouse buttons, or rather my brain is. But this is somethign you could do, to achieve basically the same effect, that Xenos is describing here. In you can bind 12 buttons 3-4 times with the help of modifiers.

I’m gonna learn to use a MMO mouse. My reason is because I feel that on certain jobs I’m making them harder to play for myself with controller than they should be, like DRK for example or just anything that gets OGCD Intense making me fumble on the double trigger taps to change cross hot bars. I got a steal on a naga the past black friday too lol. I really appreciate this guide.

I use QEFCV, Shift + QEFCV, Alt + QEFCV for all my most important rotation related skills,, CTRL + QEFCV for consumables, Tab and Shift+Tab for the Job specific skills (IE, TBN, Sheltron, Elusive Jump, Dragon Blood, ETC) and 1-5 for offensive buffs and Alt + 1-5 for defensive/survival buffs, Tilde/Caron for mounting, and Shift + Tilde/Caron for sprint, Space and Shift+ Space for Targeting, and I have jump which also doubles as ascend as well as descend on my 2 side mouse buttons. All of my skill positions on the hotbars for every job are set up in a way that similar or identical skills are in the same slot, so I can effortlessly swap between jobs and not have muscle memory fuck up my rotations. It all probably sounds like my UI is a cluttered mess, but quite the opposite, since I have set up a collapsible macro UI and it all looks very compact and clean. This probably sounds retarded as fuck to Xeno and many others, but it is what it is, I've worked out my own system, and I translate the same bindings over to other MMO's, so it always feels natural as I swap between them. Same applies to menu shortcuts.

FFXIV was the first MMO that "clicked" for me. Currently I use 1-5, Q E Z X C with 4 rows of skills (I click the last column since they are quick potions, food buffs, etc). This is because in WoW it's common to have classes with a lot of abilities (Resto Shaman in Shadowlands, all Monks in Dragonflight, etc). I could probably get rid of one row so a full modifier key worth, as I'm missing 17 skills.

I used to play both GW1 & 2 with a Naga mouse, but I swapped to a DeathAdder Elite and forced myself to learn button-pushing with 1-5, Tab, QERT, ZXC. I use CTRL & Shift as modifiers for most of those buttons as well, since I play DRG. I will say the Logitech G600 is a good choice if you've got big meathook hands as it's weight and size are very comfortable for large hands. Most complaints I've heard about it is that it's heavy and too bulky. Also when I was buying Razer Nagas I had to buy a new one ever six months or so while in five years I'm only on my second G600. I also use a Razer Tartarus one handed keyboard. I keep one hotbar in the middle of my screen that has my standard abilities on it (this hotbar is actually three hotbars in one as I can switch back and forth with a single button) and another hotbar that has my ogcd abilities on it. I activate OGCD's with my thumb from my mouse while my most used abilities are on the hotbar tied to my Tartarus. I also have a macro that turn every ui element off except my buffs/debuffs, two hotbars, gauge, HP/MP and chat. Makes for a more clean view.

Having such a hard time with my MMO mouse and maintaining rotations, considered controller for a hot minute. How long did it take for you to get use to this settup? I use my numpad a lot for my AOE combos and my tank busters for easy access on a quick button when my mouse hands in Oh shit mode. The 456 as you're main buttons makes more sense to me, as I find I rest there more often. Are you using the tip of your thumb to go from 456 to 10/11/12, or more the pad of your thumb? Trying to relearn how to go about setting this all up to maintain consistent dps and rotations with GCD's. Rotations with my gunbreaker have been hell with this expansion and trying to use the mouse, warrior not so much, but still. Really appreciate the videos man, glad I found you. Take care.

I mapped MMO mouse using the 3x4 hotbar so that it replicates my mouse numpad. Completely new to MMOs so I'm looking for content telling me why this was a dumb idea but tbh, it's brilliant. Total sprout yet I never look at my hotbars.

I click my buttons with my mouse. It doesn't matter how you set everything up. It's all about what you're comfortable with. I can click a button without even looking at it. And it takes like 1.5 seconds for the action to regenerate. I'm already there before it's even close to being ready. I'm always looking at my whole screen

There should really be an indicator of the GCD attached to the mouse or wherever we want, as well as a tool to track CDs (4 - 8 depending on the job) . We could use a specific hotbar for those, but whoever wants to play more than 1 job need to bind spells according to their effect (just like his Provoke is always on the same keybind) . Also, I really can't stand when every icon is displayed on the screen. By no means would one need to know his own keybinds (except if you're learning a job) and having a clear screen makes the game far more readable, juste like looking the middle of the screen instead of the bottom of it where hotbars usually are. Anyway, those are very good advices but I wish we had more freedom over our interface.

For non mmo mouse havers, the best setup i found is QERTFXC12345 Absolute game changer for me. The other two hotbars are the same but with shift and ctrl. They're all so close to wasd that you never have to move your hand from that part of the keyboard. I moved any keybinds that were on those keys to F1-12. QERT are basically my main combo buttons or just any main attacks I use most of the time while 12345 (normal only) are other attacks like procs, ogcds etc. Shift and ctrl 12345 are all buffs or stuns, interrupts and all the role actions. X is any movement skills. Like anything. Gap closers, peloton, between the lines. Anything that involves movement. Normal C is a ranged attack for melee and shift and ctrl C are mainly for healers (rescue and repose) and ranged (the two bind skills no one uses) F is the only one I have trouble dedicating. It's mostly attacks that are used weirdly like Wildfire or conditional attacks like ninjutsu or iaijutsu. On red mage, summoner, paladin and dancer, they're heals Limit break, sprint and mounts are on a separate 4th hotbar bc adding them to my main hotbars causes too much clutter

I personally love to use both my G600 and keyboard at the same time, because I can be ready to press 2 different buttons back to back easily. My setup is 1-9 on the mouse, and Q E R T F G Z X C V 1 2 3 4 5 6 and all of the above with a normal shift modifier. If you're looking for an MMO mouse, the G600 comes with an extra button you can press with your ring finger and map it to a modifier of your choice, but I'm very set in my ways from using a Naga for years during my WoW career and I don't dare change anything. End of the day, try different things and find what feels comfortable to you, but be prepared to spend some time getting used it, because it's so worth it.

I've never bothered with an "MMO" mouse, myself. Keybinding evolved over the years from only doing ctrl/alt/shift modifiers for numbers to including things like q/e/t/f/v and that's always been more than enough.
