Another explanation I've heard is if you only remember something vaguely, someone feeding you misinformation about it can fill out the missing pieces in your head, making you misremember what it was actually like. You only sorta remember what the Monopoly Man looks like, so when someone says "Hey, didn't he have a monocle?" that's the image that's created in your head.

I feel like some "mandela effects" are very rooted in stereotypes. Dolly having braces thing is one example. Her image is the stereotypical dorky chick who has pigtails (sometimes a ponytail), glasses and braces so people naturally assumed she had braces.
@crimsonshinobi52813 жыл бұрын
Although I see your point, it was really more about a joke. Jaws and Dolly look like complete opposites but they both have metal mouths and then fell in love with each other, the timing of the music made it especially funny. Richard Kiel starred in an advert, the cashier lady smiles at him and shows her braces, an obvious callback to the movie.

I remember her having Bracesin the Movie, also what happened to the, Portrait of Dorian Grayin the Movie and Books, now it's called, the Picture of Dorian Gray?
@InarusLynx2 жыл бұрын
I could have sworn I remember braces. But maybe it's the stereotype that's messing with me. As soon as I saw him smile, I remembered her smiling back and having braces. It gave them something in common with 2 people that were completely different. It fits the story perfectly.

Quantum immortality. The theory that multiple realities exist and that we therefore exist in all these realities at once. Whenever you die in one reality you are simply transported into another which has a timeline as close as possible to your own past one. Which is said to account for the similar history, but slightly different minor details that you see and remember

Like the video said in criticism of the Mandela effect, the reason we miss remember things is not really parallel universes. It's that when we continually try to remember something we aren't actually remembering the event itself but the last time we tried to call on the event. In other words say we went to a party for new years then recalled it the next day with a friend, and then again with another friend. The first time is us recalling the event, but the second time is us remembering not the event but the first conversation and rebuilding the memory from the event off that. So when we are remembering things we are simply rebuilding the memory off the last time we recalled those events and experiences. Think of it like having a nesting doll each layer is very similar but there is still a difference in size, in our case its the overall description, and instead of taking a layer off we keep adding one to it.

I still have a real VHS from the era of moonraker, and other people i know have recordings too, she does have Braces on the physical medium. It is easy to modify everything when everything is only digital in our age, even retro edit and retro download things, cheating can be done at every level, it's why an all digital world should be shunned and thrown out, everything can be rewritten constantly.
@InstinctiveRelfex3 жыл бұрын
@@Tigerhearty Neat, but off center from what I described.
@TheSilverwing9993 жыл бұрын
I mean this could account for some of it, but not at all of it, so it can't be a complete explanation. Like literally some people have straight up experienced something, even asked their friends or family about it and they remember it the same way. If it really was just us "misremembering because we are recalling an event instead of actually remembering it" that would not account for how multiple people seem to be "recalling" that event in the exact same manner. Unless you are arguing for some manner of collected conscious on top of it.

@@Tigerhearty No, you don't, because they aren't real. Like you said, digital age, things can be altered but there is far more footage, even being talked over by the creators of the movie with no braces. They are literally talking about the attraction between them being the height difference, Jaws liked that she was small. If there were braces, they would have focused on that or at least mentioned it. Welcome to the Mandela effect. There are a few ways people handle it when they find out the truth. Some accept it, but grudgingly, some pretend they never thought otherwise and some go into denial or even claim it's some kind of conspiracy. Flat earther "I am one of the few that knows the truth and nothing can convince me otherwise" stuff that unfortunately means the truth is probably lost on them regardless of the evidence. Very interesting phenomenon.

if you mean quantum immortality, i think idea is something like, if for every possible alternative occurrence a new universe is born, then when a person dies, there's always gonna be another universe in which something happened just a bit differently and they lived a split second longer.
