I just wish more people would know the difference between character design and character modeling though. All the Tanaka hate hurt my soul (I really like his art, i follow his twitter and blog and all). Like, I agree character modeling is better here (mostly because they FINALLY realized that the best visual technique to use for anime designs is cell-shading... I can assure you the new designs would look « nightmare fuel/creepy » if Takahashi had went for full 3D again... with realistic bodies on top... which I think were a mistake in XBX... especially as I don’t even think Tanaka actually draws his characters with bodies like these). I just have a slight distaste for the new designer’s style (Nomura characters are mostly alright/nice, Tanaka’s Finch is a cutie and there are good and bad Blade designs in general) and I don’t know if asking for so many designers to make characters was the best idea (I expect art styles will clash... then again, maybe people will accept and roll with it).

You’re lucky. I don’t feel excited about most of my favorite series anymore (which were/are mostly FF and Xeno... when I say Xeno, I include Gears and Saga... Xenosaga 3 was my first... this series is probably the one that made me the most emotional in gaming... then again, I was a depressed teen back then, I guess I really got the characters’ pain... but I don’t know if replaying those at 28 would feel the same... can’t replay any of them anyway... i’m European and my old swapped ps2 died a few years ago... replaced it with a normal PAL one... unfortunately I can’t replay a couple of my non PAL games). If I do, my expectations are not met (hello Persona 5... latest modern jrpg I played and was really hyped about, as a fan of P3 and especially P4... I dunno what was missing exactly... because they were improvements for sure... dungeons were fun for example... Breath of the Wild also bored me way too quick lately... which saddens me a lot, i’m jealous of people having a blast with those Switch games, a friend lent me the console and i like it... but I want to really love stuff on it... and BotW already failed to do that... maybe Odyssey... never was a big fan of Mario but... i enjoyed the intro a bit when my friend came over with the game... then again, I felt positive about Zelda at first too).

That’s why I’m so excited for XBC2. I’m buying a switch just for this game. Btw the only Zelda I ever loved was OOT. Till this day that game still takes me there

I hate that it took me so long to get on board with the Xenoblade series. I loved Xenosaga back in the day on the ps2 but I kinda forgot about it as time went on and I stopped gaming for a while. Xenoblade Chronicles DE was the foundation for jump starting my interest in gaming again. For that reason alone, that game will always hold a special place in my heart. I still love the hell out of XBC2 though. LOL

Thank you guys for doing these! I loved your Xenoblade Chronicles X discussions prior to that game's release. I remember it was nice to hear opinions from both a huge Xenoblade nerd and someone who'd never played Xenoblade before. This time round, I don't even think I'll be getting this game any time soon. I don't have a Switch, and while I'd love to play Odyssey, Splatoon and Pokken, I'm finding it difficult to justify the purchase at the moment. But then there's this game... A whole new Xenoblade! I may just bite the bullet and buy a Switch... as a Christmas treat to myself, of course :/

I know it's off topic and not a huge deal, but was I the only one pleasantly surprised to see that the follower characters *jumped* to Rex's location at 2:30? I feel like I'm so used to observing that kind of aspect being handled traditionally in games by either having the followers navigate a path of obstacles and/or stairs or simply teleporting them to your controlled character's spot. To see this little extra effort put into the game (whether or not it was actually difficult to implement) speaks a lot to me - it's often times the small things that contribute to a title being memorable or not and when I witness subtle details like that being included it makes me that much more interested in the game and confident that the developers are committed to creating an exceptional work that goes beyond mere entertainment. Definitely day 1 purchase for me.

I like that aspect as well, but from what I've seen, it looks like this jumping animation will make for more hilarious AI behavior than realistic one, kinda like in the original where characters could start running at the speed of light for no reason. I've already seen Pyra and Nia making some crazy jumps for no reason ^^

It's interesting how the meaning of the "blade" in the title changes with each game. In the first one, "blade" referred to the Monado. In X, BLADE is a paramilitary organization. Now, in 2, blades are living weapons?

Xenoblade X was my life for a year. I loved it. It’s gonna be the same with this game too. But... I really hope they make X2 because I love the skells and the characters plus I need to know what happens beyond the cliffhanger!!!

Xenoblade X was designed to be a massive single player tech demo-styled RPG The story was minimalistic so they could establish a strong gameplay system. The plan was to create a story-heavy future installment using the gameplay tech from X. That, coupled with the cliffhanger and the worldbuilding lore hidden in the sidequests, I would be surprised if we didn't see any more from the Xenoblade X universe.

I would love another Chronicles X. I loved the setting and game play, the quest system was really meh though. "Find this item in Primordia" Like for real? That's like saying GO TO AFRICA AND FIND THIS SPECIAL GOAT. Such a huge area with literally no guide to even say which area of Primordia it's in of what kind of NPC you should farm to get it. Never actually managed to stick with the game long enough to get the Shells which I thought was a shame because they looked so cool. The hardware couldn't handle it either, even with the data pack DLC's the pop in was insane and often stuff wouldn't load into say NLA until you'd actually ran past it. The NLA music was TERRIBLE too...

I'm so glad to hear there's tutorials. I played X for like 12 hours and just straight gave up because I didn't understand the game at all. I know tutorials get a lot of flak but in the case of Xenoblade not having one in X basically made the game difficult to enjoy. And yeah I could just look online but I did and I was still confused. For example in X I would try to dodge the enemy's attacks and when I still took damage despite being nowhere near their physical models I would get really mad because there was never an explanation ANYWHERE that that's not how the game works.

Hopefully it sells really well so Nintendo continues to give Monolithsoft the same level of confidence and freedom. And maybe we'll get Switch ports of the two previous games.

RinkuHeroOfTime Well Nintendo has always gotten 3rd party jrpgs, but they were usually smaller ones for their portable systems, not the big AAA console games. Even Square who publishes those kind of games like Bravely Default don't put their big rpgs on Nintendo systems. FFVI was the last mainline FF game that was released new (not ports of older games) on a Nintendo system. I think the biggest 3rd party jrpgs that Nintendo consistently gets is Dragon Quest. Hopefully the Switch starts getting those big jrpgs like Star Ocean, Tales, Ys, FF etc. With them moving on from Vita games, I hope Nihon Falcom starts putting their games on the Switch. There is also a chance that SMT will become more mainstream with the Switch game (rather than a niche series that is overshadowed by Persona)

Monolith is pretty close to a second party developer. The games get made if they have the finances not if Nintendo approves them. They had a deal going because monolith assisted in developing breath of the wild but it's probably just free publishing.

Just so that everyone knows: it was confirmed in a recent article that you CAN switch the ownership of a blade from one driver to another. The catch is that it takes a fairly rare sort of item to make the switch happen. Thumb this post up so everyone can see it!

Xenoblade Chronicles X will always be the best game in the series to me. So much character customization. The combat system needed to be tweaked a little bit more due to long sword/ dual guns being so OP and guns only being looked at as support weapons. Overall I wish I could find other games like it.

Honestly, I think the level system alone was all I needed to get hyped as fuck for this game. It's such an awesome way to do things, and cures the problem of feeling pressured by the “Exp Timer”, where it feels like a job to have to monitor your levels at all times to ensure you’re not outpacing the enemies if you want to have a challenge. _Seriously,_ please bring this system to every RPG that ever gets made from now until the heat death of the universe.

You can switch blades. Go to manage blades and eventually, you'll find override and that changes them. Done it a few times myself. I'm sure your affinity chart stays the same as well as equipped chips.

Yoko Shimomura actually didn't return for this game, with Yasunori Mitsuda taking her place after just doing the ending theme of Xenoblade 1. Manami Kiyota is the other returning composer that Chuggaaconroy didn't mention.
