Not to sound rude, but I don't know how it was surprising with those graphics. The game on Wii looked like out of a PS2 and the 3DS version was so downgraded that it looked worse than PS1 games with how blurry and muddy everything looked. Mind you, I'm not saying the games are bad, just that both graphically and technically speaking they were nothing to brag about in 2010 even by Wii standards. Compare it to games on other consoles and it gets even worse.

important to note that 3DS's resolution was only 240p vs Wii's 480p. In raw FLOPS, 3DS is only 4.8GFLOPS compared to 9.4 GFLOPS on gamecube and 12 FLOPS on Wii.

There are many things missing, like screen space reflections in the water. While the cutscenes are mostly improved, the actual gameplay looks like a midground between a wii game and a switch game.

@3:28 There is a lot of weird image artifacting going on in a bunch of the 3DS images, they look a good deal worse and more messy than it actually looks on a 3DS screen. I know the textures are more blurry, but I'm talking about artifacting noise around the edges of things that is definitely not there normally.

The 3DS version may look muddy compared to the others but remember that it does have one graphical advantage: stereoscopic 3D. Such an underrated feature. The fact that this game runs on the 3DS at all is very impressive, especially in full 3D... unlike the Pokemon games on the 3DS, which I never understood.

I was going to say the same. Haven't played thr game yet. As I just cleared Bravely Default and Mario's Inside Story. Then got hooked on Animal Crossing New Leaf. But anyway. I own Xenoblade for 3ds and plan on playing that version for the 3d immersion. Which was just Amazing in Luigi Dark Moon and New Super Mario. So, this comparison doesnt show that feature, which I miss on the switch. Even though, that has become my favorite system.

This video has image artifacting around the edges of things that make the 3DS version look quite a bit worse than it actually looks though. I still think the stereoscopic 3D make the 3DS version worth having, even though the textures were muddied down a good bit from the Wii version.

First, Monolith couldn't make the original work on WiiU which forced them to make a new one for Xenoblade Chronicles X. The later is what XC2 used as a basis. They modified it further along with the Torna Prequel and now XC DE uses the Torna engine. The assets used for the Definitive Edition are both new and from XC2/Torna.

The only thing I miss is the neon lighting 😭 That was one of the mossy gorgeous feature from the games, all the light and the night glowing from the rather lighting trees, crystals a a lot of thing during night. I hope the nighttime has the same magical effect in the remaster 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

It's NEW 3DS, not 3DS. I don't know if it would be possible for Xenoblade Chronicles to run on standard 3DS considering the overall low quality textures used in that version. Anyway pretty big difference and I expect even a bigger one on a possible Nintendo Switch PRO.

Los gráficos se ven mucho mejor, pero me gustaría que no le hubiesen cambiado el estilo artístico. El original se ve que le tiraba a un rollo mas realista y el nuevo se ve mas tipo caricaturesco/anime como Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Quizá no tanto en los ambientes pero si en los personajes. Es como si al remaster de Twilight Princess le hubiesen cambiado los gráficos al Zelda mas reciente a su salida (creo Skyward). Y no porque piense que un estilo sea mejor que el otro, sino porque es el mismo juego y por lo tanto un cambio al estilo gráfico me parece fuera de lugar. Pero es un remake en vez de un remaster, siendo la situación mas como FFVII y su remake, así que yo que sé.

Yo lo único que espero es que pueda perderme (figuradamente) en estos ambientes ricos en verticalidad, algo que le faltó un poco a Breath of the Wild. Para mi no hay nada mejor (en vida real tambien) que mirar hacia arriba y ver copas de arboles o terreno elevado. Es la primera vez que jugare este juego y tengo altas expectativas para Gaur Plains por la tierra elevada y la espada.

Deciding to do a full remake - and only 10 years later at that - was one of the best decisions Monolith and Nintendo have ever made. Xenoblade Chronicles was a true gem on the Wii, but it was too ambitious to be limited by the technology of that era. On the Switch the game can show its true potential. I am a bigger fan of the original's "classic JRPG" art-direction than XC2's "anime" art-direction, but this is a decent sort of middle ground.

That, along with the new content and scenario puts it closer to the remake catagory. If it was a simple remaster, it would basically just be a port with updated textures.

Y'know, the characters look a bit stiff in the Switch one. It still looks amazing, of course, but the way they move is kind of unsettling to me, even with the awesome graphics. The stiffness in the Wii was justified for when the game was made (and somehow fit with the graphics in a way), I just thought it would be a bit smoother on the Switch. Anyway, it doesn't affect my opinion on this game.

I dont think they have changed movements whatsoever (except the jumping animation, now the arms and legs move more naturally as you fall rather than in the wii version where you fell like a statue lol) so its purely graphics upgrades here as well as hopefully nice smooth framerate. I am clinging to hope its 60fps.

Monolith reuses the original cutscenes animation sets by I.G Production. They simply "corrected" the graphical aspects of the cutscenes to make them match the new aesthetic. Although, Future Connected will be totally new. So there will probably be a huge difference animation wise for the cutscenes since it is also handled by the same studio that did Torna/XC2 cutscenes animation.

I don't want to be that guy but I prefer the art style of the original (specifically for the characters) despite the technical limitations of the Wii/N3DS. It's more in line with how Xenoblade Chronicles 2 looks than with how X looks , which sort of makes sense since 2 seems to be where a lot of new fans of the series got in (and that it's the most popular Chronicles game).

I'd say the biggest strength the Switch version has, is the more cartoony/anime approach to its art direction. It looks far more polished than either the Wii or 3DS versions.

Never played xenoblade chronicles but im for sure gonna pick this game up now. I know people say its great game and i wanna be in on it too. I know enough to be interested and I've heard the music from this and Xbc2. One thing i will say though is that i kinda like the darkness in the battle of the two titans. It's technically a port, they take the exact same code and replace or polish every texture and recreate some models. But, well, that is the point of a remaster.

@@shadowx86 not at all dude, this game is using the same engine of xc2, you can clearly see that in the cinematic and just by looking at the lighting, this game has nothing to do with the engine from the original game, and it also has a better draw distance, more grass, better shape and the geometry of the mountains are certainly different, as a matter of fact, i would highly doubt that xc2 looks better, atleast from what i can see in the new areas, they look atleast as good as gormot, uraya and mor ardain

At 1:50 When you change from 3DS to Wii why not use the exact same shot and camera angle from the same scene instead of different shots and different camera angles from the same scene? If I’m supposed be to be seeing the difference between the 3 versions why aren’t you using the exact same shots? The 3DS is just a straight port of the Wii version only with a a different aspect ratio, lower resolution textures and a lower base resolution. So the exact same shots in a cutscene should exist to compare the image quality between all 3 versions. But instead you chose not use them for comparison which confuses me. Also why make a video centered around Xenoblade Chronicles and not use the game’s music? Doesn’t make sense

A thousand times yes. Uprising had the most interesting characters and story out of any Nintendo IP in history BY FAR. Palutena is one of my favorite characters from ANY franchise of all time just from a personality standpoint from one game.

I kind of agree, I think its just because of how muddy the Wii textures are in comparison but I feel like some of the colors are too bright. Especially on the Monado, wish it looked a little more washed out. But I'm still really exited to play the new content, and I think they few things that aren't great are worth it for things like, Melia not having polygon hair, and potentially Shulk eating his sandwich.

Pues en realidad Twilight Princess es un remastered... y aun asi creo q su version de WiiU estuvo bastante a la altura siendo un muy buen remastered... En el caso del Xenoblade se ve asi de bien por q es casi un remake, ya q para las nuevas texturas mejoradas y el nuevo trabajo de poligonaje y el pulido de las texturas usaron otro motor grafico diferente... parece ser el mismo del Xenoblade Chronicles 2... ademas de q Switch cuenta con bastante mas potencia q la WiiU por lo cual podia permitirse ir un poco mas alla... En el caso del Twilight Princess como dije es solo un remastered, una version mejorada, pero principalmente esto se ve reflejado en la resolucion y en q pulen los graficos dotandolos de texturas mas detalladas y con correcciones en la mismas, pero todo eso se realiza utilizando el mismo motor grafico del juego original...
