If you're using attack move, his E is a charge that hits on the next attack, and the plants are considered targets, so if you do an attack move too close to the plant, he'll just charge into the plant as the attack. I do it all the time with ranged champions by accidentally attack moving into the plants circle, and then they just shoot it.
