Why do some athletes use one-leg and others use two-leg takeoff for the XuanFeiJiao or Whirlwind Kick?
In this video I explain the difference and the advantages of each one. I also tell you why I'm a two-leg takeoff athlete after 7 years one-leg XuanFeiJiaos.

I really found the one leg takeoff more difficult because I can't finish the rotation and the landing. Now see me at 00h25 in my bedroom trying the 2 leg takeoff. I am obsessed by this kick😂😂

Much prefer doing the whirlwind kick this way, good tutorial.

Buenisimo el tutorial, esos tips biomecánicos son claves, siempre lo hice impulsando a una pierna, y la verdad que es más difícil lograr una buena verticalidad y altura en la fase aérea. Me gusta y tiene más lógica la segunda forma, si lo que se busca poder rotar más.

The two legged takeoff just came to me more naturally. I tried training the one legged takeoff a few sessions but it just doesn't feel right. I think the two legged one looks better, and I wont have to ruin a dozen pairs of budosagas while training them, anyways haha.

Very nice video! Since I started wushu in the 90th I have always practiced the 1 leg version. I will give a try to the 2 legs version for my students whose find difficult to stay straight in the air... 😊 Xié Xié

Ayy, nice video, I've been experimenting with both. I've always been taught the one leg take off rising my left knee first. But I also practice a bit of the two leg take off, keeping the left leg straight, pointing down like you do, I also feel like I jump more, and it's easier to keep my body vertical during the spin, and since my left leg is pointing down, it also feels easier to land. From what I've seen in wushu chang quan, you can do the one leg take off if you're doing tornado 360 into a butterfly twist. But if you're doing btwist into tornado 720splits, people use 2 leg, is that right?

Revisiting this video after a knee injury on my take-off side so I am starting to wonder if it may be necessary for me to change to the 2 leg take-off. Also my 1 leg take-off wasn't too good anyway as my posture was way off and started to feel awkward.

It depends on your body type for many the 1 leg take off is the only way they will get past 360 degrees. For others with good hope you can get to 900 with 2 leg takeoff.

A Lutz is a very different thing... Figure skating jumps are none like wushu nandus ..

Hi! Thank you for your comment. Look for stability in the air, even without the kick. Try landing on both feet without kicking. then try kicking without much rotation, progress slowly so you can identify exactly the reason for the problem. Hope it helps, cheers!
