Despite his simian appearance, chimp-like gate and having the mind of a 12 year old... he's not totally incapable of making a joke - especially one about being traumatised by his auntie's muff. It was a pretty natural response that Ricky inadvertently set him up for. You are right to flag it up though. I too get taken aback when Karl says something that isn't totally moronic.
