OMG, Yamaha XG sounded soooo good. Eargasm. I listened to it in the past when I had a Windows Millenium PC and had Yamaha 50XG soft-synth on my PC and had a Diamond Monster Sound MX300 soundcard with a fantastic clear Vortex2 voice. This combination was so close to perfection.... Unfortunately Yamaha does not support XG soft-synth on PCs any more, but it was the best MIDI sound ever..
@ZenithMusicNet Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, and don't forget the memories! That era was just magical. But you had the softsynth S-YXG50 running on Windows Me? Or did your Diamond card had a XG chip?

@@ota1998 Thank you! I just installed it, and listen to some XG MIDIs I just downloaded. Such a fantastic voice, I missed it so much. Thank you! I am just listening some ambient dance musics from Sam Sketty. They are simply fantastic...

Yes bring more if you can, because nowadays it's a hell to get MIDI playing, browsers extensions don't work anymore, and I use Linux, which brings a totally new level of nightmare to get MIDI working. When I can finally play MIDI on Linux, more often than not it is plagued by stuttering and noise, besides the problem of applications not being able to control MIDI volume themselves, if I want to change volume I need to open the volume control for the specific application, well you see the point. I don't know about newer version of Windows post 7, but in the old days it was simply a matter of double-clicking the MIDI file and vuala, you're listening to the MIDI !

I have a folder which is the XG midi library with all the midi files that were made for XG & XGlite. I found the MU 100 demo disk on the Internet Archive as a zip file and then copied the folder to the XG midi library and then I copied it to a USB thumb drive. so now I'm tempted to go and play all the MIDI files on a modern CVP Clavinova when I go to Guitar Center
@ZenithMusicNet Жыл бұрын
Great to hear! I'm curious how those sound on a modern Clavinova, as later XG devices had larger wave roms and sounded better than the early ones. Maybe bring a portable recording device which you can plug directly into the Clavinova.

Thanks a lot! These sweet 90-years with Yamaha's xg masterpieces of different composers! Morten Hagen Swensen did many perfect tunes...And, of course, brilliant Extasia!

The sysx commands if you have a decent sysx program can make a ton of difference in sound even if the sound font pack is only 4MB you can completely use sysx commands to change the sounds to sound even better. Cybercat took a french horn, and jammed it full of sysx and made it sound real as hell. Reverb, echo chamber which has different settings as to what kind of echo you want -- it allows you to actually put it in a symphony hall. All kinds of nutty commands!

Nice, I had the Yamaha S-YXG100 plus. Today with Windows 10 I'm using the coolsoft VirtualMIDISynth, Midimapper and playing with MDPlayer. I forgot how a love and hate this is because depending on the soundfont the music sound different.
@ZenithMusicNet6 жыл бұрын
Indeed, nothing sounded the same. That was also with different brand MIDI hardware players back in the days.

give the S-YXG2006LE soft synth a try. I truly LOVE how it sounds. You can find it here: www.xg-central.com/playback-xg-midi-files-on-windows.php Either use that or MidiRadio Player by Yamaha

Try playing a midi controller keyboard or a standard midi keyboard through that back then. You had to press the keys down and a really looooooonnnnnngggg delay. It sucked on a Windows PC and Mac OS was very difficult to use. I wish YAMAHA would bring this back as a VST or DXI synth on a modern Window 11 and Mac OS 14 system.
@ZenithMusicNet9 ай бұрын
I completely agree. Modern pc's are way faster, even with emulation, and have little latency. A nice software plug-in would indeed be very welcome.

But Kamel.mid didn't gave me that much of delay with S-YXG50 VSTi...
