Shooting Star is a very Western Hip hop and R&B song because it was written and composed mainly by Americans: Lyrics by Jason Jermaine Daxon / Sheldon Body Jr./ Olay / Brooklyn Kenaisya Johnson / AMarri Gildersleeve / Poe Leos / JQue / Dayday / Jakops Composed by Xansei / Seann Bowe / Clint Ford /Matt Kali / Sheldon Body Jr./ Jason Jermaine Daxon / Olay / Patrick Michael Smith (JQue) / Poe Leos / Rambo Kay / Amelia Moore/ Brooklyn Kenaisya Johnson/ AMarri Gildersleeve / Jakops Arranged by Xansei / Seann Bowe / Clint Ford / Matt Kali They work with many Western composers/lyricists etc. and the 'chill vibe' is actually R&B which is one of their genres. XG is a Global Hip hop and R&B group that's why they sing in English and study English (almost) every day and also Korean. Maya is the only one who speaks English fluently (and confidently). In fact, when she was a child she spoke more English than Japanese because she attended an international school in Japan. The fashion also has to do with their inspiration from R&B/Hiphop music, especially Left Right.

Maya went to an international school where she spoke English full time and is the best at speaking it. The rest can carry a basic conversation but there is a noticeable accent. All of them appear to be fluent in Hangul as well.

Maya, brown dress/orange hair, is the only member fluent in American English, as many of the students in her International School were children of American Military, US Government or American Business people living in Japan. During their training period(nearly 5 years), they must have had extensive Korean and English language instruction. They are far more fluent in Korean than English, Except for Maya, they rarely speak English in interviews, but their English diction when singing is nearly imperceptible. I think that having Maya as a native American English speaker helps immensely with their pronunciation of song lyrics/American slang so it sounds naturally American. I have to think that they had/have an American English instructor as well. Japanese students in Japan who studied English in school generally have miserable English speaking skills so it is impressive when I barely hear any diction mistakes by the girls. There are a few but I really don't care because everything else is so dang good. XG wants to be seen as a global group and that means being able to perform and sing in English. I'm sure that this will be the direction that KPOP has to go as well. More KPOP songs will have to be in English. It can't just be Twice and BTS.

You’re right. Blackpink has perhaps the best GG English, partly why they are so big globally. I Love Twice and BTS but their all English songs are poor accents and doesn’t have the intended impact. Itzy with Lia and Red Velvet with Wendy have much better pronunciation in all English versions. XG is smart to focus on the global market and English. It cuts down on music/MV/comeback costs in different markets, like Korea, Japan, then global. The hard part, making a foothold in the Korean market, getting exposure on the Music shows, and being accepted by the proud Hallyu Korean public is starting to happen, as they speak Korean at these shows, and appear on Idol League and other Korean TV. It is remarkable that they are on all the Music shows, when they sing exclusively in English, no Korean.

Actually they trained in Japan with AVEX Academy ( AVEX Japanese company ) for 5 years.

Avex and YGE had a label called YGEX where YG talent’s music was distributed in Japan. But XGALX is a sublabel headed by Simon Jakops, half Korean/Japanese former 2nd Gen Kpop rapper with BG Dalmatian (later DMTN). That sublabel has nothing to do with YG. Although one could argue XG dances more like a YGX dance crew than just another Kpop Girl Group.
