XG made a timeless classic overnight. The early 2000 nostalgia this song brings. This will be played for years and years to come. This hits a home run too in the feels for us ALPHAZ and for them too - knowing they've been celebrating so many winters far away from their families to achieve their dreams. Xhosa was referencing a famous snowy mountain scene from the Japanese classic film Love Letter. She is shouting “Ogenki desuka?” meaning “how are you or are you ok”. Then she shouts “Watashi wa genki desu”, which means “I am ok”. Chisa references this scene and even the XG production team set up the snowy landscape to nod to the movie’s landscape. No one does it like XG, they and their team are on a different level. Great reaction and thank you for supporting XG from the beginning. I think they are gradually getting more recognition just for their sheet talent and hard work

The reason for her shouting at the mountain was her addressing her trauma at losing her fiance in an avalanche. She shouts out again and again, never getting a response, which ends up crushing her emotionally and she falls onto the snow. Chisa does this as well.

Yes! In the beginning, Chisa shouts "Ogenki desu ka?" in Japanese. Asking, "Are you ok? " or "How are you?" and she answers herself by shouting "Watashi wa genki desu!" or translated, "I am fine". This scene is perhaps derived from "Love Letter" a 1995 Japanese romantic film written, directed and edited by Shunji Iwai in his debut feature film and starring Miho Nakayama. In the movie Nakayama plays 2 parts, one of the woman missing her deceased fiance after he died in a mountain accident. Long after, she discovers his childhood address, and writes a letter to that address. And to her surprise, she gets an answer back! The girl living at that address now, has the same name has her fiance.

XG is just different. This song has been on repeat for me since it came out. Everybody always shines and they never miss. I have my bias chisa and Jurin but I have a soft spot for hinata because it was told she wasn’t always confident in her English on songs and what made me wanna hear her sweet angelic voice was her vox video of Ride. The level of dancing, singing, rapping? insane they lack nowhere. After researching this MV sounds like 90s and 00s, the popular, JPOP artists like Hikaru Utada (Japanese American singer) with her popular ‘First Love’ song and Namie Amuro (Chisa admired Japanese artist). And this MV also reminds people of the R&B, hip-hop vibes of Destiny Child and Spice Girls in the 80s and 90s. But XG are “Gen-Z” amazing Japanese global pop girl group… brining back that type of 90s and 00s style of music. 🎁
