This gave me so much respect for Gary, he's really switching up his whole vibe to make Yuto comfortable, dude is super empathetic, and doesn't feel awkward becoming more cerebral. Japanese people can be such deep thinkers. Yuto is no exception

47:13 "You make none of it corny." I have to agree. Contest skating is still looked down upon by most skateboarders, but it was definitely way worse in the early and mid 2000's. I feel like Yuto changed that up a lot because he was the one guy that brought refreshing, new tricks with style to these comps. Not only that, but he destroys a lot of these competitions as well. Usually someone who does a lot of these comps is labeled at a contest skater, but Yuto continuosly brings out crazy parts as well. It's so rare to have one of the best contest skaters and street skaters. The way he dominates in transition and vert only adds to how much of a unicorn he is. I think he is the most well rounded skateboarder to ever exist. He is the Shohei Ohtani of skateboarding.

I love Gary’s commentating and pleased to see this interview. Gary is always unbelievably based and I will always appreciate his candid. I liked how Hyped he was for Yumeka and the other super tech women’s skaters at a contest but will always remember him saying “I would never slow-mo a board slide but that’s just me”. No other commentator or interviewer is real like that.

It’s pretty clear that action sports athletes really aren’t good when it comes to the climate. I haven’t seen anyone who’s actually remotely good in that regard. It’s pretty disturbing because you think about action sports as being left leaning and environmentally conscious; but the opposite is really the case.

@@marvinangel8832 Obviously not. But certainly the structure of the action sports world strongly encourages an individualistic, capitalist, right wing mindset. So that needs to change radically. The entire culture has gone in the wrong direction.

@@christillmajority of skatepros are making less than they would working an average job. Only talking for skating though. Might not be that much different with bmx, snowboarding, etc. I assume. But true, pros are milking it with social media, energy drink sponsors, so on. And their puting their body on the line for that low salary. The top contest pros got it better of course. Theres still a huge amateur and diy scene in skating.
