It's so fascinating, listening to a more serious and dramatic album by Frank Klepacki, as opposed to his usual Command and Conquer-esque heavy metal. Just goes to show how amazing of a composer he truly is; anything goes with this guy's musical style!

He was 18 years old when he composed the Dune 2 tracklist following on the guidelines of the Dune Adenture game, and the movie. For 2000 he reworked those blip beasts. Now all we would need is a live performance. :D

Just amazing. You can hear the inspiration from Starcraft and Warcraft at that point (sorry for the Blizzard references). Doesn't matter where the music came from or evolved to. I am forever grateful to myself for finding it when I was young. It will stay forever in my mind I hope :)

Whenever I hear this, I always think of H9V1, the hardest level in the game. It always plays at the start, and towards the end of it, it's almost guaranteed you're going to get smashed by the inevitable Atreides & Emperor onslaught coming from all sides :)

Nejtěžší je podle mě ten level, kde se krade nepříteli základna, ale číslo neznám. Myslím, že to je za Harkonneny. Atreidi tam tvrdě dorážejí letecky a taky sonicky. Nebo za Ordosy jakýkoliv level, kde se musí chránit mercenaries. Nejtěžší úkol je přimět je, aby zůstali xD

@@FluffySylveonBoi Level, ktory spominate, je H7. Na prvy pohlad tazka zalezitost, ale v skutocnosti hracka. Ak ho chcete hrat tak, ako to zamyslali tvorcovia hry, t.j. obsadit nepriatelsky Construction Yard, postavit a rozvinut zakladnu, odrazit pritom nepriatelske utoky a postavit armadu a s nou znicit vsetko, co sa hybe, tak dolezite je umiestnit svoje obranne jednotky (idealne siege tanky) v DOSTATOCNEJ VZDIALENOSTI od toho maleho priechodu, cez ktory do vasej zakladne prenikaju nepriatelski trooperi ci Sardaukari. Tento priechod je totiz v tesnej blizkosti hlavnej zakladne Artreidesov, takze ak umiestnite vase jednotky prilis blizko tohto miesta, tak nepriatelske jednotky z tejto zakladne, ktore maju za ulohu branit tuto zakladnu (vacsinou lahka pechota a trooperi) pridu na toto miesto "zistovat" pohyb vasich jednotiek. V Dune2000 to totiz funguje tak, ze kazda nepriatelska zakladna ma vzdy nejake dopredu pridelene jednotky, ktorych ulohou nie je utocit, ale iba hliadkovat okolo svojej zakladne. A vzdy je tam nakreslena nejaka neviditelna ciara alebo uzemie v tesnej blizkosti nepriatelskej zakladne, ktore ak je prekrocene nejakou jednotkou hraca, tak ma vzdy za nasledok "vyprovokovanie" nepriatela k vyslaniu uz spominanej hliadky na toto miesto. Tieto nepriatelske hliadky sice nemaju prikaz utocit, ale "iba" prist na miesto, kde hrac prekrocil tu neviditelnu ciaru, chvilu tam zostat a zase odist, no AK HRAC VYPALI CO I LEN JEDINY VYSTREL na co i len jedinu jednotku z tejto nepriatelskej hliadky, vsetky ostatne jednotky braniace ich zakladnu dostanu pokyn zautocit na dotycnu jednotku, ktora vystrelila, a bojovat s nou dovtedy, kym nie je znicena (ostatne vase jednotky si nepriatel nebude vsimat, za predpokladu, ze sa aj tie nezapoja do bitky, samozrejme). Cize v H7 to potom vyzera tak, ze ak napadnete niektoru z tychto Atreidesovskych jednotiek blizko toho infantry only prechodu, pojde po vas prakticky cela zakladna, co prakticky znamena game over najma na zaciatku levelu, ked este nemate rozvinutu svoju zakladnu. Schvalne si vyskusajte, ako tato nepriatelska reakcia funguje v praxi :D

@@FluffySylveonBoi Inak, tato vlastnost uz spominanych obrannych jednotiek nepriatelskych zakladni v Dune2000 sa da vyuzit viacerymi sposobmi. Tak napriklad, ak mate dobre rozvinutu svoju zakladnu s dostatocnym poctom vezi a siege tankov a mate zaroven pripravenu velku armadu, s ktorou chcete dostat nepriatela do kolien, tak dobrou taktikou ako si veci ulahcit je, ze zoberiete jednu rychlu jednotku (trike alebo raider) a s nou pridete k nepriatelskej zakladni, napadnete jednu braniacu jednotku a okamzite sa stiahnete naspat do vasej zakladne. Nepriatel samozrejme vysle vsetky svoje jednotky za touto vasou jednotkou, ale ak ste ju umiestnili do bezpecia, za vase obranne veze a siege tanky, cela jeho armada bude po chvili rozprasena, pretoze vase veze polahky znicia kazdu prichadzajucu nepriatelsku jednotku. Nepriatel tu navyse casto reaguje uplne hlupo, pretoze si vacsinou vsima iba tu jedinu vasu jednotku, ktora celu bitku vyprovokovala, a na utoky z vasich vezi vacsinou ani nereaguje (jeden z notoricky znamych nedostatkov nepriatelskej AI v Dune2000).

@@FluffySylveonBoi Dalsim prikladom, ako toto vyuzit (a zaroven dalsim prikladom zle fungujucej nepriatelskej AI v hre), je situacia, kedy chcete hned na zaciatku levelu preniknut do nepriatelskej zakladne a odstrihnut nepriatela od penazi a de facto ho urobit neskodnym. Toto sa da vyuzit aj v leveli H7, aj ked tam to chce aj trochu stastia a hlavne rychle konanie hraca hned od zaciatku levelu. Navod je zhruba takyto: 1. Obsadit nepriatelsky Construction Yard a stavat iba nevyhnutne budovy, tj wind trap, refinery, upgradnute barracks a tiez aspon dve gun turrets na odrazenie utokov z malej zakladne Atreides vlavo, ktora vacsinou posiela iba niekolko tankov + pechotu + jeden sonic tank prichadzajuci periodicky cez carryall drop. 2. Doma nechat iba jednotky braniace uz spominany infantry only priechod, tj v nasom pripade nechat iba 1 siege tank, ktory bude neskor za priaznivych financnych podmienok podporeny aj nejakou tou pechotou vycvicenou v barracks. 3. Prejst so zvysnymi jednotkami dolu na juh a pomocou taktiky "zameraj pozornost nepriatelskej raketovej veze na moju pechotu" znicit dalsimi jednotkami tuto vezu (ak najskor poslete k vezi jednu jednotku z vasej pechoty, veza bude palit iba po nej a bude kompletne ignorovat vase dalsie jednotky, ktore su, na rozdiel od pechoty, velmi zranitelne na palbu z veze, a ktore su nutne na dalsi postup, t.j. hlavne combat tanky a quady). 4. Po zniceni veze presunut vase jednotky co najblizsie k hlavnej Atreidesovskej zakladni bez toho, aby ste vylakali obranne hliadky, a nasledne zobrat jeden trike, zautocit na hliadkujucu pechotu ci troopers a poslat trike niekde "do tmy" na severovychod, co najdalej od nepriatelskej zakladne a zaroven co najdalej od vasich zvysnych jednotiek. 5. Zatial co cela nepriatelska zakladna pojde po tejto vasej jedinej jednotke, vyuzit tento moment a znicit uz spominanou taktikou "najskor ide pechota, potom zvysok" nepriatelsku raketovu vezu, ktora sa nachadza pri prvej z dvoch nepriatelskych rafinerii (opat je velmi dolezite najskor odlakat palbu veze na pechotu, pretoze pechota je proti raketam dost odolna, a az potom zautocit s ostatnymi jednotkami, ktore su naopak na palbu veze velmi zranitelne, no ktore ju velmi rychlo znicia resp. su potrebne na dalsi postup, t.j. quady a combat tanky!). 6. Akonahle je nepriatelska veza znicena, zobrat vsetky svoje jednotky a znicit prvu rafineriu, a potom aj druhu. Tu treba vyuzit skutocnost, ze obidve rafinerie v hlavnej zakladni Atreidesov su velmi blizko seba, a daju sa preto znicit, specialne ak sa vam podari uchovat si vase quady a combat tanky, ktore sa velmi hodia na nicenie rafinerii. Prave preto je dolezite odlakat vsetku predoslu nepriatelsku palbu z vezi na vasu pechotu, aby potom quady a combat tanky mohli dokoncit to hlavne - znicit obidve nepriatelske rafinerie a odstrihnut tak nepriatela od penazi. Obcas sa sice stane, ze nepriatel stihne postavit novu rafineriu, ale v drvivej vacsine pripadov tak neurobi, pretoze jednak nebude mat peniaze a jeho AI bude navyse natolko nizka, ze mu nenapadne niektoru zo svojich budov predat a ziskat tak potrebne peniaze na stavbu novej rafinerie (opat jedna z velkych chyb AI v Dune2000). 7. Ked je nepriatel odstrihnuty od penazi, vycvicit v barracks 1 pesiaka + 1 inziniera. Najskor poslat cez spominany infantry only prechod pesiaka, a potom v tesnom zavese za nim aj inziniera. Pesiaka postavit na take miesto, z ktoreho vylaka hliadkujuce jednotky nepriatela, a akonahle pesiak napadne hliadku a odlaka tak pozornost celej zakladne, s inzinierom ist dole na juhovychod a obsadit a nasledne rychlo predat nepriatelsku Atreides High Tech Factory. Ak sa to podari, nepriatel nielenze nebude moct stavat vzdusny utok, ale mala zakladna Emperorov nachadzajuca sa vnutri velkej Atreidesovskej zakladne navyse nebude dostavat letecke posily (Sardaukarov a asi aj nejake missile tanky). Cely tento postup od bodu 1 az 7 vyzaduje okrem istej davky stastia aj velmi rychle tahy a na seba nadvazujuce reakcie hraca, pretoze okrem dianiu v nepriatelskej zakladni je treba stavat a chranit aj svoju vlastnu zakladnu. Takze je to dost multitasking, ale ak to ma hrac zmaknute, tak v nejakych 5 pripadoch z 10 to vyjde. A ked to vyjde, zvysok levelu je uz o nicom, pretoze ostava uz iba mala Atreides zakladna na severozapade a tiez niekolko malych vln pechoty a trooperov od Emperoru, kedze ti maju aj po odstrihnuti posil prichadzajucich zo vzduchu na zaciatku levelu iste mnozstvo penazi (ktore vsak nemozu nijako rozmnozit, pretoze nemaju rafineriu ani Construction yard).

@@FluffySylveonBoi Co sa tyka Ordosov, tak tam som naopak nemal rad, ked sa mi Mercenaries miesali do mojich veci :) Oni su dobri iba na zaciatku levelu, ked mozu odlakat nepriatela a ziskat pre hraca cas na natazenie penazi a stavbu zakladne. Ale potom su uz iba na pritaz, hlavne ked im predtym odstrihnete niektorych nepriatelov od penazi a chcete byt vy tym poslednym, kto znici tu poslednu nepriatelsku jednotku ci budovu :) Kazdopadne, za mna jednoznacne najtazsim levelom je prave H9V1, hlavne ked ho hra nezasvateny hrac, ktoreho ta horda (casto naraz utociacich) Atreidesov a Emperorov splachne este skor, nez si stihne nieco uvedomit :) Ale aj tu plati, ze pokial ste hned od zaciatku rychli a viete, ktore budovy stavat, kde odrazit nepriatelske letecke posily a ako odstrihnut niektore podporne nepriatelske zakladne od penazi, tak v 9 z 10 pripadov tento level date, a to dokonca aj za menej ako 1 hodinu.

If I made a “Dune 5”, I would make it a battle between houses Atreides, Harkonnen, and Corrino. The Ordos homeworld would be attacked by a reborn house Corrino, while all 3 houses were fighting the “Emperor Worm” in the previous installment; with the Ordos remnants being a subfaction.

Munus Ti I would also make the factions a bit more faithful to the novels. The Atreides would have the best air power out there, and would be somewhat balanced. The Harkonnens would have the best vehicles of the three, but would take a few “subversive” elements from the Ordos. The Corrinos would have the best infantry (unsurprising since they have the Sardaukar) and would have high-quality units.. but their selection would be lower and their headcount would be lower. They would be the new powerhouse faction. Plus, morally, Atreides would be the good guys, Harkonnens would be the evil faction, and the Corrinos would be neutral.

Munus Ti The subfactions would be the Fremen... who have the warrior and Fedaykin, from the previous game. You’d also get the Arrakeen Smuggler’s guild, who would have heavy harvesters and carryalls that can be garrisoned with infantry. Essentially, economic units that can protect themselves, and are better at getting away from worms. The Ix would have the Mega-Cannon defensive structure and the projector tank. The Bene Tlielax would have the Axolotl Tanks (structures that can clone your infantry, or produce gholas of enemy infantry for a higher price), and they would have Face Dancers (spies and infiltrators that can sneak into enemy bases and sabotage enemy operations... like the Allied Spy in Red Alert 2). And House Ordos’ remnants would have the saboteur (a suicide infantry unit) and the deviator (which can control a single enemy unit, like the Yuri in Red Alert 2).

Whoever can tell me five of the games (that you played yourself) that I wish I will always remember; will get a free plane ticket to where I live, for a week. I want to meet people that has the same kind of childhood when it comes to amazing games. Because I struggle to have found it at the places I've lived so far!
