My wife and I are looking for some new headsets. We currently use the Cardo Pack Talk Bold, but we are starting to have some issues with them like diminished distance (we cannot be more than 500 yards from one another) and they mic sometimes shut off for no reason. New ones are just getting too expensive, so we are looking for a cheaper alternative. We don't use ear plugs and we are concerned about the tinny sound. The Cardos have great sound and we would like something with a similar sound. Any ideas? I have a Shoei Neotec and my wife has a HJC RPFA 90. We definitely want noise cancelling.
@Mudslidex13 ай бұрын
It's tough because I find Cardo to have the best sound quality (but at a cost). The others I find all to be on the tinny side, but for me with earplugs that fixes it. The Fodsports M1SPro has very good sound quality if you opt for the upgraded speakers. I reviewed that one here if you want to check it out kzbin.info/www/bejne/el6Qm3aOgaqUfJY

I bought the older XGP and this X10 because of your (very well done) reviews! On my end, the speakers that came with the X10 are thicker and without earplugs have a LOT more bass.... I'm in Canada, maybe a different upgraded batch (?). My 2 main frustrations with these (which i prefer much more than any other cheap Amazon brands i tried) are: 1. volume is not loud enough on the highway with earplugs 2. Google assistant works fine at a standstill - or almost - but just doesn't work at high speed with engine and wind noise. If i wanted to stay in the same price range, do you have a model to suggest for improving volume with decent sounding music at high speed?
@Mudslidex16 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I am finding no matter what headset I use (Including my $350 Cardo Packtalk Edge), I find the music is hard to hear due to wind/engine noise. Anything around 50mph and under is fine. Once up to highway speeds, even my Cardo is barely audible. There are just too many variables between the aerodynamics of your helmet, it's build quality and insulation inside. Also your bike style and sitting position and if you have a windshield or not etc. I haven't found one yet that works great at highway speeds. I find the same with getting the assistant to work. However, my Cardo does seem to work the best activating my assistant even at highway speeds which is nice

In the cheaper version xgp 5.2, it allows me to “share music” with my sons helmet… but we can only talk or listen to music by tapping button to switch between music/talking… I know this new model allows music & talk same time, but can I send him my music? Or does he have to have his own music? Can you share music with this new model? (Like you can with old model)?
@scott22282 ай бұрын
Based on research I’m finding the quality of the helmet at reducing wind noise has more to do with it than the speakers. The quieter the helmet, the better they sound. Which means….. I need a better helmet!!! Ugh 🤷♂️

I can't find out anywhere if this will this connect with more than one other different brand unit simultaneously? Sure it will mesh with up to 10 XGP X10 units but will it connect with up to 10 other Cardo and Sena units at the same time? All the videos I've seen just show it connecting to one other unit from a different brand?
@Mudslidex12 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it's the limitation of using Bluetooth. I found this to be the case with many brands I've tried. If you use the brands own mesh network, you can connect several. But mix with other brands that have their own mesh networks that are only compatible with their own brand devices, and you are stuck using Bluetooth as a form of intercom connection which is very limited, short range, and inferior sound quality.
@Ryan_H222 ай бұрын
@@Mudslidex1 Ah, okay. Thanks. I wasn't sure from reading the Amazon page. The couple people I occasionally ride with have Cardo's and I was hoping to save a couple hundred bucks. If these manufacturers don't get together on a standard so all units use the same comm protocol they're going to kill themselves off or we're going to be stuck with just one brand.
@Mudslidex12 ай бұрын
@@Ryan_H22 Exactly. I wish they would all agree on a mesh network protocol, but I doubt they will ever do it. Why would I spend $300 on a Cardo or Sena when I can get another brand for under $100 that works with them? Maybe if all the lesser brands stuck together and used the same protocol, THEN Cardo and Sena would have some real competition and either have to join them or lose sales to everyone buying the cheaper brands!

I just received my XGP today. I tested it thoroughly. There’s an EQ adjustment in the iPhone settings-EQ for Apple Music. I set it to treble reducer which lowers highs and boosts up mids. I would have wished that XGP would offer to reverse the previous/next button combination so that the next would correspond to the button that we can easily refer to as front, and the previous button to be defined as the rear button on the XGP I wish it would be compatible with JBL 45mm that’s designed for Cardo, but available as an accessory package. I would have bought that package which I’m sure would have rendered a much better sound quality.

Question - when paired through Bluetooth to a different brand, can the user of the bluetooth paired headset communicate with the mesh networked users? Also, what do you think about using a pair of noise cancelling headphones with these such as Elgins Rumble (comes with a usbc connector and 27db passive noise Cancelling).
@Mudslidex15 ай бұрын
Yes. The headset paired by plain bluetooth can communicate with the rest of the group on the mesh network. However, it is at a lower audio quality and you still are limited by bluetooth distance range. I rode with a group and I was the "non-mesh" guy, and if I got too far behind, my headset would cut out and lose connection until I got closer to the group. As far as noise canceling headphones, I've often also considered what can be used. I guess it's worth a try, but it may be difficult getting them to stay in your ears with the helmet on

Great in depth review, thank you for the information, ordered 4 of them to replace the bluetooth based units i and my friends have, each time we are going to ride we fail to pair our intercoms or they aren't compatible with each other or pairing 3 intercoms is impossible, so the mesh connection intercoms should fix that

@Mudslidex16 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it won't pair to a GoPro. GoPro is very selective at what they will let pair to them for audio recording. I have a DJI Action cam and it's the same thing. I can only pair it with another DJI wireless mic. However, I have a Cardo Packtalk Edge, and the new ones allow you to record the audio from your helmet to your phone which is pretty cool. But not to a camera. I haven't found any that will do that yet

As this vid, the others are great as well, appreciated. But still I can't come to a decision; either the Fodsport or XGP (since I jst won't spent that much money on a Cardo). Maybe you can deliver the final verdict (or have a total different solution). Currently using an Ali's bluetooth receiver with KZ ZST X in ear IEM, connecting to Android phone. Sound is Ok-ish but I do find it a bit of hassle and some things I need are, - loud music (driving highways +80 Mph), - good quality (bass and treble) sound for top40 songs - and I also want/need to wear ear-plugs for protecting my hearing. I don't expect top quality sound, and I also do not mind connectivity issues or best voice communication with other riders (since moste of times I commute on my own). What device would be recommended ( I don't blame you when, after buying, it doesn't meet my needs 🙂)?
@Mudslidex12 ай бұрын
It's really a toss-up between the XGP X10 and Fodsports M1SPro If you also pony up for their upgraded HRSQS speakers. The Fodsports with the upgraded speakers is loud and sounds good. However, I prefer function over music quality, and I am a big fan of the jog dial of the XGP. They are close in sound quality with the Fodsports being a bit better sounding... But for me, I like the ease of use of the jog dial. You really can't go wrong with either...Just have to decide which features are important to you.

I have yet to own any of these devices. Hence, I'm watching these videos! I appreciate the additional knowledge from the comment on all units not very loud on the highway. Very helpful info. My question here is, can you swap speakers and microphone between brands? Specifically, would the 45mm JBL upgrade pair with this brand? I'm sure I'll answer my own question as i watch more videos, but any help would be appreciated. Also, any preference in brand and model $100 or less?
@Mudslidex16 ай бұрын
Thanks. Some of the headsets you can swap between brands. Most are a USB-C connection. But just because it's USB-C doesn't mean it will fit. I find many use different size casing surrounding the USB-C plug. So they won't fit in the other brands USB-C unless you do some trimming of the plastic around the USB-C to make it fit. As far as sub $100 brands. I am finding XGP to probably have the best sound and ease of use

I believe the SENA allows that. You need to use 3 different cables. One Breakout splitter, one attenuator cable and one more 3.5 splitter.
