I have found that the flatter batteries can be used with a small metal washer to make it contact a charger connector or other.

I’ve had mine for a little while now. Love it. ( No Weather Band) This radio is on par with the C.Crane CCSKywaveSSB, The Tecsun PL-880, And Sangean ATS-909X, As well as the Eton. Price is a major selling point. It also does very well onSSB. 📻🙂

Ehab AbdulburAlfakhory Absolutely ❗️ I have the PL-880, and the CCSKywaveSSB, as well as the ( 13 year old, previous gen.) Sangean ATS-909. The XHData D-808 is a DSP radio so is very selective. It has a bigger ferrite bar inside than most radios, so it’s OUTSTANDING on MW. SW is also excellent. A really good radio, with high build quality. 📻🙂

Hi Edmund thank you for this. I have had a D808 since July 2018. Although I live in Dundee, Tayside, I have tested my D808 when staying with friends near Bexhill/Hastings on the same south coast that you mention. I agree with your observations concerning LW on this set. This is due to a lack of a proper LW coil being wound around its ferrite rod.. However, I remember monitoring 252khz LW near Bexhill and was surprised to hear a program of Latin American music. I'm afraid I can't claim to Latin America on LW on the D808. However, what I was listening to was Algerian Channel 2 on 252khz. I was fascinated by the enormous number of Spanish stations audible on MW on the south coast. Also as an old pirate radio fan, I was happy to be able to hear the latest incarnation of Radio Caroline on 648. I also regularly use the radio for BC bands doing and have a few videos on my youtube Channel. Have you checked out its little brother, the Radiwow R108? Essentially, its a stripped down version of the D808. 73s Jim

Had mine for a year now, and to be honest its the best portable receiver I have ever had. The filter options make it a very good SSB receiver indeed. The battery life is pretty good. Just by chance I have two pare batteries from other devices should I run out of battery power. In bed when the wife is listening to the TV, I use a good quality noise cancelling headset. An that is totally amazing.

What a moaner, this radio is great. Such a negative attitude. The antenna jack only works for SW, Air and FM on my D-808. Don't need it for MW as the internal rod is so long and has amazing sensitivity. The battery that came with my radio works just fine, 30 hours plus usage, charges fast too. Three bars on the display drops to two bars (75%) in an hour or so, but yes, it stays on that two bars forever. LW isn't a problem in the UK, barely anything to listen to anyway. It's a great radio, I mostly use it for SW which is incredible. The stand on my radio is fine, haven't managed to break it. Hold your hand up to the screen light and it'll reflect the light onto the buttons, not a problem. Re: the DAB -- the LCD is clearly just ready for a different model. It's obviously not a feature of this version, it's not even advertised as a feature, so why would you even think it might have the circuitry inside?

wello Ed, I'm with you re your review of the XHDATA, I've had one now for a few years now and quite happy with it, for a lower cost portable shortwave receiver it's good value, needed it for long wave for something I was doing and it pour performance didn't help but for everything else it's ok. The one thing I do with this radio is pull the battery when it's not going to be used for a long time the clock and over stuff that backs up the settings in the background will drain the battery 🔋 not a good thing for lithium iron batteries, just a thought if you want to save the settings whilst changing the battery have you thought about plugging in the charging lead whilst changing the battery.

Hi Edmund, Vancouver BC Canada here. Thanks for your channel. I just received one of these from China, however have a question for you please. When you press the up arrow to scan, on any band or for any frequency, does it momentarily pause on a found freq, then continue scanning? Or does it lock on to the frequency found and stay there until you press the up or down arrow again? Mine seems to just stay on the freq found, and will not continue on scanning like my Grundig Satelitt or R-108 Radiwow do. Not sure if maybe mine has a problem or not. Nothing found on the internet about this so far. Thanks very much. Craig

I use both the radiwow and XHDATA to scan airband. XHDATA locks on and stops. I tried everything to get it to continue scanning as it sensitive and stops at every blip. then I tried everything to get the radiwow to stop and not continue scanning...no luck, if you learn the hack shoot me a message on one of my videos. 73s Brian

I got it ‼️ MW is incredible. Apparently, they must have worked out a couple of kinks. Short Wave is excellent. Love it. Also : I believe “the Radio Geek” has opened one of these as well. So far, I’ve not heard anyone having any problems with these. How long these will last, remains to be seen. That said, If you are thinking about getting one of these, I’d say, go for it. I’ve had several radios, Including the Sangean ATS-909 , Kaito (Degen) KA-1103 , Grundig G-6, Tecsun PL-390 , Tecsun PL-600 , And C.Crane CCSkywave-SSB. ( The Kaito gave out after 3 years, as did a Tecsun PL-660 - which I replaced with the PL-600) . For reception: the XHData D-808 beats them all. Also, excellent video. 📻🙂

Hello there, apologies for my late reply. Well I must confess that I have not used the radio that much but, yes, I am still happy with it. I've never had any interest in air band but it still works great on Medium Wave where I do most of my listening. I've noticed recently that it will drain the battery down pretty quickly, but I don't know if (1) the battery is failing (2) the radio has developed a fault or (3) it has always done this but for some reason I've only just noticed!!

@@MrEdTraveller One thing which would be very useful to find out is .. can it receive NBFM on the VHF low band 64 mhz up. It definitey receive in this range - the question is more of the FM decoding and of couse the step size which seems to be 10kHz minimum. That would mean , if true, in Nz it would allow Rx of the unscrambled Police and fire bands. In the UK it would allow Rx of the 4mtr FM band - which also applies in Israel, Ireland, Sa and many other places. Commercial 4mtr Rx or Tcvrs are very hard to come by. regards, TE. Fidler in NzL

Hmm bought one of these about a year ago from aliexpress for £51...now £60 incl delivery I noticed. Yes you need a reasonably sized thumbnail to open the stand and all is fine with me anyway ! Yes LW not great. OIRT FM very sensitive...in fact just back from Kiev which again proves this. Brilliant on AM. Heard China on 1377 kHz just with the internet rod recently...clip on my channel. Enjoy :)

I don’t know if I would trust a used one [ of any high tech radio]. I have the XHData D-808, And the C.Crane CCSKywaveSSB, and now the Tecsun PL-880. All 3 radios are outstanding. The XHData is the radio to get if you’re into Medium Wave, or if you are on a budget. They really put a lot of thought into the designing and building of this radio. The only [ real] drawback, is that XHData has not been around very long. They are fairly new to the market, so there’s no way to tell about long term reliability. Sangean,Tecsun, C.Crane, and Kaito (I’m thinking of the KA-1103/ DegenDE-1103) have all been around, and their comparable radios are proven, and we know what to expect long term. Other than that, this is one fantastic radio. Great video. 📻🙂

Hello Edmund, great review. I got one a week ago and have one question. When I switch on the unit and have turned the volume wheel to the minimum I can hear a ground level of noise which is annoing me. When I sit in a silent room and hear FM stations with good quality i can hear clearly that noise in the background. With headphones too. Is this normal? My 5 year old Sony Xperia has a FM reception with nearly no noise. Is something wrong with my unit or does anybody hear this too? As I now noticed it is also on MW, SW, Airband....

Mario Drechsler Mine also does, so it’s just the way these are made. I almost never use headphones, and I suppose I’m so used to listening to SW, and long distance AM ( MW), that I never paid any attention. I also checked my CCSKywaveSSB, and it is just barely doing the same thing. Both radios use almost exactly the same circuitry, SO it may be the DSP circuit. ( there are a couple of things I don’t like about these DSP radios). But as for me , doesn’t bother me. But it is interesting to note . 📻🙂

Mario Drechsler Hey, no problem. - Actually, I also just checked my only other [ descent] DSP radio, my Tecsun PL-390, and, while it doesn’t seem as noticeable, the noise IS in the background on it. And on my Daogoly [ which is a really cheap DSP based AM/FM pocket radio ( that is pretty incredible for DXing AM)], the noise is more prominent. Checking my mini Kaimeda SR-201 surprisingly not so much. 📻🙂

Hi Edmund. Many thanks for posting this video. As for the longwave frequencies that's probably down to the internal ferrite rod aerial i guess and could be resolved by using the external aerial socket into a wire? I do have a vlf converter so that could also be used. 73.G7HFS.
