Xhol Caravan - Pop games

Xhol Caravan's 'Electrip' album is a prime example of where music was heading in the late 60's. This particular album opens up with the flush of a toilet (!), and then quickly blasts into some psychey jazz-rock. I own the lovely vinyl re-issue with the first five tracks only, and they jam really hard. The dominating sounds are sax and organ and, the spirit in which the music is delivered, sounds like a cross between early Hawkwind (relentless jamming) and the psychedelic jazz-rock of early Soft Machine. Fans of these styles, and not to forget 'Krautrock', should be impressed with one fine album.

Their sound was way ahead of it's time....That's not necessarily a good thing. 1975 sound was blah. IMHO. After 1971 free form rock was gone.

@@spudwas here in the UK we had In Concert on the radio and Sight & Sound on TV which stayed away from anything too mainstream, but even that went with the advent of punk.
