Xi Jinping is a classic example of the Peter principle in action. As he was expert at maneuvering the political system of China, his ineptitude in economics became more apparent. He obviously does not learn from history and is in denial about the lack of feasibility of Chinese Maoist communism in the real world. His ideology keeps him running like the proverbial lemmings to the sea. Keep running Xi, do us a favor keep running! The end is near!

You said the essential truth. Mankind's best hope for economic success is markets operating within rule sets and enforcement that minimize their well-known weaknesses and excesses. Crafting those rules and enforcing them are the best governments can do. Governments that routinely fiddle with the internals of markets are - so far as we know - doomed.

Another great analysis. Paradoxically, Xi's anticorruption drive may be another depressing factor for China's economy as it increases uncertainty. Missing rule of law left corruption as the one factor providing predictability. Problems could be solved in a fast and predictable fashion with backhanders to correct officials. This mechanism has become increasingly difficult and unreliable, leaving businesses to face increasingly arbitrary official power.

So the question is not, will it fail, it must be when will it fail? Also, what is the better way to fail, fail now or in 5 to 10 years? Must if fail now, what are the consquences, what are the outcomes? Socially, economically, politically? The ccp can delay and cover up as much as they want, but at a certain point, which is now becoming clear to everyone, inside and outside of china, it will crash and the longer it is delayed, the harder the crash will be.

In this video I learned more about why Xi and the CCP do what they do than from any other source I can remember. To put the message in just one of your memorable sentences: "If the rule of law truly takes precedence over everything, what becomes of the CCP?" Some legal scholars have argued that rule of law was becoming more prominent in China (see Zhang and Ginsburg, 2020 "China's turn towards law"). They see an increased focus on legality as a part of the anti-corruption campaign. However, it is clear that property rights are not being respected now and economic freedom is being curtailed. I think your perspective is more on target.

Authoritarian systems can implement decisions quickly. But that is true for good and for bad decisions. The party could implement the one-child policy easily over the whole country and uphold it for decades without changes. The result was devastating for Chinese demographics. To make that work you have to assume the leadership is very wise and makes no mistakes. That is not the case as the one-child policy showed. Over time, the errors kill you. Also Authoritarian systems tend to make decisons very top down and thus by a relatively small group of people instead of participation of the broader sociey in decision making, by more public discussion. That should increase the likelyhood for errors. Then by nature , these systems have an issue with the rule of law. You cannot rule absolutely with the rule of law. That breeds corruption and is not a good environment for businesses and for investment of capital. Corruption in general is a feature of such system, because it rewards the loyal elites, gives the leadership potential leverage against the elites and makes them all to criminals so that they will support the further existence of the regime. Xi Jinping demonstrated that by eliminating his political enemies with corruption charges. They are all corrupt but the leadership decides who will be charged. In general that also leads to misallocation of capital, because capital allocation decisions are too much influenced by political decions rather than the market, which requires the rule of law. Authoritarian systems tend to lie more, because they can because there is no opposition and they have to because they want to rule forever and government success is hard to achieve forever. If you cannot achieve permanent political success you just lie and suppress your potential opposition by force. Obviously, sytematic lying without checks by anybody does not control human impulses and weaknesses and is not a system for success longterm.

Though the anti corruption campaign is good for the country but is meant to legitimatize his constitution amendment to allow him beyond two terms, more than enough to undo the good in the long run. Going all out on infrastructure to maintain SOEs without regards for optimising the distribution of resources had resulted in more debts than necessary and lower returns.

“Is there not a single true economist among the Chinese Communist Party?” This question is like asking… “Is there not a single astronaut among the American Federation of Astrologers?” When the Wizard In Chief is operating with a Ptolemaic model of the economic universe don’t be surprised when their financial forecasts fail to materialize. 🧙♂️🔮🙄

“Without economic freedom, there can be no other form of freedom”. Maggie Thatcher. The reality is that no economy can function without freedom, democracy and the rule of law. They are all part of the same package, and that is the dictator’s dilemma. They want to see prosperity, but to hold onto power they, in the end, need total control and that is inimical to economic health.

Civilizations are cyclical, for a new state still starting its march, an authoritarian system is ideal but after it sets order it should step aside to a more democratic albeit still conservative system, there are two paths to choose from here, become liberal and decadent as this civilization collapses or return to authoritarianism as society stagnates and decays in the hope of a repeat/revival of the cycle avoiding a complete collapse. Maintaining a liberal system forever ends badly, starting a state in a liberal system ends in failure, maintaining an authoritarian system from the beginning ang continuing it forever also ends in collapse. China already had a good start with Authoritarianism under the Nationalists and Communists, after the fundamentals have been laid, Communism should have stepped aside and be replaced by a conservative form of democracy as society progresses, the problem is that Xi and the CPC got drunk on power and wanted to stay in power no matter what even if they are overstaying their welcome, continue like this will lead to failures and eventual collapse.
@doujinflip8 күн бұрын
To be democratic yet conservative involves the majority of people having things worth preserving. Under-regulated capitalism leads to concentration of wealth and power, resulting in reactionary leftism in an attempt to balance the deficit… hence the battle both a century ago and arising again these days against pro-corporate policies between fairly moderate collective bargaining (labor unions) and more radical state takeovers (Communism).

Whenever a leader must be chosen, do not look at what he seems now. Look at his/her formative period. Discover where he was between the moment he//she was between 10 -18 years old. It is the period when you are formed. Einstein printed 5 papers in 1905 when he was 26. He developed the best ideas between the first 18-23 years of his life. You increase your experience afterwards but the innovation is over.

Very true! the CCP deeply envy's America, but does not understand how America's success comes from. They can only see what they love - power and money - and place no value on what's important: liberty, ethics, and respect for your fellow man. Valuing someone elses life, liberty, and property - as well as equality before the law and public accountability of the powerful - is something the CCP can never do. It interferes with their object of worship, Party Power. And so, they will always fail.
