Not if you were poor and destitute, no social welfare at all.

@@polo-kf6yh How old are you? Don't tell bullshit if you don't know the history! My family was very poor in the 1960s, living in wooden hut. Hong Kong government then was so nice to build a lot of resettlement buildings which we found so comfortable (compared to wooden hut) ! With my perseverance, and with government scholarship, I entered university ! ! Thanks a lot to the British rule ! (Mao Zidong's Red Guards were sweeping across the whole mainland at that time. Teachers and professors were tortured by them ! )

I've been to beautiful Hong-Kong 5 times, I feel safe there, people are friendly. So many things to see and do.
Those were the beautiful days when Hong Kong had very little crimes and neighbors were close to each other. I had such a happy childhood. Nobody traveled to other places during holidays. Chinese New Year was widely celebrated. My family cooked for a few weeks to welcome CNY.
Basically you enjoyed being a colonial subject. How submissive of you

@@papabear90 Please study the lives of Hong Kong people in 1960 to 1997 and compare with the lives of mainland China people before you say anything, dude !
