I was a third generation family member employed by Metro Cammell from 1981 to 1985 manufacturing these ‘yellow head’ KCRC and the Hong Kong Mass Transit rail carriages. I worked on the assembly of the train shell, in particular the under frames, body sides and outer roof assemblies. It was a great company to work for and I have many fond memories.

@H L if the Chinese sourced trains last as long as the Metro Cammell DMU’s then your comment is justified. However, it is noted in the Chinese media the following statement- “In light of public concerns regarding the safety of China-made locomotives, the MTRC added that there will be staff “stationed full-time at the factory to quality-assure the manufacturing and assembly processes.”🤷🏻♂️😬

At the time, the front of Chinese Shenzhen (Lo Wu) station was very chaos. A lot of beggars and thieves made me nervous and felt fear. Newly developed business area and dirty old area was next to each other. I remember that newly opened Shangri-La Hotel was the only remarkable building around the station.

Before KCR can cruise at Max Speed 120km/h but under new system the MLR stock max is limited to 110km/h when SP1900 stock is 105km/h

Even the First Class train car back then was an almost exclusive domain with a lot less users prior to the handover due to the requirement of either a separate First Class ticket (single or a supplementary ticket [valid for 90 days from the date of purchase]). Now it's too easily accessible due to the Octopus First Class validation processors and a lot less exclusive and appealing due to the high rate of evasion in the First Class compartment, especially done by the Mainland Chinese.
