Technically, this train could continue further into the Jōban Local Line all the way to Toride but I believe such trains usually start as part of Tokyo Chiyoda Line services from Yoyogi-uehara Station.

True. Yoyogi-Uehara serves as the terminal station for the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda line in the first place, so most trains do start and end there. But to the extent of what I know, most Chiyoda line trains don't go as far as Toride; most of them would terminate at Ayase or Abiko. And reading your comment, one thing I'd like to let you know is that there are also trains that start all the way from Isehara or Hon-Atsugi and terminate at Toride station, running as Semi Commuter Express in the Odakyu Main line.

What you just described must confuse even Japanese commuters in the Tokyo area. They'll need access to a timetable (paper or on cellphone) to find out _which_ train on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line will go east all the way to Toride.

I totally agree; the only reason I know that well even though the last time I visited Tokyo was like 10 years ago when I was around 9, is because I'm simply interested in Japanese railways, but for ordinary commuters and especially foreigners, yes of course that's the case. Actually even Japanese commuters who live there and use the railway systems daily, don't really see the timetables and maps. They just simply use apps that tell you what kind of train to catch at which platform. We can only blame the Japanese metropolitan railway system; no other cities, even New York, have such a complicated system.
