Some bored tournaments use 2.7+ grams balls. Other use 2.7- grams balls, with more interesting game rallies. But in general, the most reason hurdling table tennis popularity in social community is that today official 2.7gram balls are too heavyweight. The more heavyweight balls, the more difficult for beginers to play. The more ideal balls weight is 2 grams (total ball weight + compressed inside air weight). The lightweight 2 grams balls will boost table tennis to new level of popularity, and together boost table tennis equipment business in new super wider market, because new beginers are required to train only few weeks to begin play serious amateur games of the version of lightweight 2grams balls table tennis, instead of few years trainning requirement to play serious amateur games of the current version of heavyweight ±2.7grams balls table tennis. I personally see that many commercial table tennis clubs owners convert their halls into badminton/billards halls clubs. Thay say that new beginers come to try to play table tennis, but most of new beginers can not dare to sacrifice few years for training to reach the level of playing amateur games of the current version of heavyweight 2.7gram balls table tennis. Thus most of table tennis beginers leave out table tennis before they can begin play amateur table tennis games. So commercial table tennis clubs owners do not have enough clients for their business, and they stop commercial table tennis clubs.
