I had the Mi 11 Ultra and upgraded to the new Xiaomi 12S Ultra: the phone feels allot better, it is also lighter, the phone doesn't overheat, you get better battery life, the phone is allot faster, and the camera is amazing, the rear display will be missed but it's not such a deal breaker, since the new main camera is awesome, very steady and super fast shutter speed, also the phone comes with the charger and the wireless charging is slower, but you can use the wired one and it's still pretty fast, I used to charge the mi 11 ultra overnight and during the day, now with the 12s ultra I charge the phone from 30-40% to around 80% with quick 20 minute charges during the day (usually twice a day) and don't charge it overnight at all, the phone is amazing and I highly recommend it compared to mi 11 ultra, my only gripe is that selfie camera that just does the job and is nothing special, also the proximity sensor that was an issue with mi 11 ultra is fixed with Xiaomi 12s ultra, but there are is a huge advantage to importing it, I payed $1225 for the green 12/512 version, while a month earlier I bought my gf an iPhone 13 Pro Max for $1525 and that was a blue 6/256 version, the iPhone itself is way more expensive and the case, screen protector, charger was all purchased as part of this price (while Xiaomi 12S Ultra had everything in the box) so yeah this phone is a better deal money wise, and if I bought the basic 8/256 version it would have been even cheaper, and it is cheaper than an s22 ultra too so for short is it better than mi 11 ultra? YES I have sold the mi 11 ultra a few days later, is it better than iphone or samsung, for long term no, since they both offer better software support, but short term hardware wise yes

Excellent review! My personal point of view. Sony, Xiaomi in partnership with leica had to test their new baby the IMX989 on a vast territory like China without trying to revolutionize the rest of the smartphone, ultrawide and the optical X5. This leaves time and room for improvement for Xiaomi to subsequently integrate new Sony sensors for the UW and improve their optical zoom capacity. From there, the next batch should be magical with a real worldwide release. This time with the 1 inch sensor in the center of the camera! It's only my idea and certainly a sweet dream?! Ahhh I was going to forget the most important good, on a front camera that takes videos in 4k to be definitely the ultra of ultras

Just watch ANY new presentation of any soc, GPU or chip and they will have half a dozen new mind blowing tech chips and AI .. And what do we see every year for the last decade ???? Yes, small tiny upgrades. We need to make a 100 pics and Pixel peep them to see a difference. The differences we see are ALL software ! Don't believe the hype. They want to sell so they will come up with so called new chips for people to feel good. Also if these chips were so important and cost a lot of development then why are devices usually abandoned with new software and real improvements after like 1 year ??? Even with new models they could still improve the older models with that great chip right ?? Nope, it gets bug fixes and that's it. After 2 years it's done and your lucky if you get security updates every so many months. Welcome to the real world buddy.

The camera review is different from other reviews, because you're a good photographer and you know how to find photo friendly scenes. You know exactly how to take a photo in portrait mode from a perfect distance, so it does not look artificial and the hair is less detailed and easy to separate from the background.

I have a Huawei Mate 20x I've been using since September 2018. I JUST bought a Samsung S22 Ultra (512gb) for 1000usd which I thought wasn't too bad. It went straight from a sealed box into an OtterBox case, screen protector and camera lens protector. I love the phone and the screen. Everything's so fast. But I do prefer my Huawei. Stupid Trump and his bans.

Great review! One thing which does not get too much attention in most reviews about the main camera is the absolutely ridiculously fast shutter speed. Compare this to an iphone indoors in artificial light and you will see the big difference. Due to the low shutter speed it manages to actually take crisp (not all the time) photos of moving / dancing subjects. This is ridiculous! PS: I own this device myself and it did a phenomenal job talking pics during some event last weekend!

Great review. Thank you. I am always looking for the very best possible camera centric phone. While I'm excited by the 12s Ultra's big main sensor, I also live in the Philippines, the selfie capital of the world, and no punch hole/teardrop front camera will do. I currently have the old Vivo 17 Pro, with a proper superwide and wide popup selfie lenses, with flash. As for selfies even this 3 year your old mid/high end phone is superior. I also have the ASUS Zenfone 8 Flip. This phone's main lenses literally flip to the front for selfies, flash and all. No other phone in the world even comes close for selfies. So, unless Xiaomi (don't get me wrong, I like the company as I have a 11T Pro) will consider a solution for selfies like ASUS did, for me that missed the boat.

Great video Nick, so much better qualities in 1 video but again the view is just...awfully acceptable because eventhough you're late but this is the most detailed review about the Xiaomi 12S Ultra for someone who is gonna buy it in the near future or so. I prefer calling this phone a Xiaomi 12S Pro+ Max rather than Ultra because the Front Cameras are not cosisntent like the iPhone 13 Pro Max even it can shoot 8K in all lenses. The Selfie Camera is a seriously done "not to buy" deal for this phone, 1080p30fps = No for this price range (Huawei are way better) + the picture taken is so bad like this is like was taken on a lower 199-229$ smartphone.

The phone does perfectly stabilised 8K video, that makes it the best video camera hands down. The camera package as a whole will improve with updates as the Samsung and Apple did. They should make the selfie that I don't use ( I use the Ultra wide) the priority, surely they can get 4k/30 out of that sensor.

Hey TechNick! I'm liking this style of video over the old ones. It has a fresh vibe to it. The 30 minutes duration may be a bit lengthy by the 2022 standard, but I am fine with it, especially since this is about the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, one of the best smartphones around. About the phone though, I had mixed feelings towards it. It takes a great leap to the front with their main camera, but a step back with the selfie camera. Meanwhile, the ultrawide and the telephoto are mediocre at best. Just like most reviewers said, when it hit, it hits hard. Else, it is a miss. I cannot blame Xiaomi since they undercut the competitors in the price tag. But at the same time, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra feels inconsistent and lackluster in its camera quality to the point where I feel like the word 'Ultra' feels undeserving. In contrast, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra manages to retain its consistency and quality in each shot. That is my opinion.

@@tomokawaiix i went ahead and bought it and i can tell you it definitely delivers for the price, the main camera is insane and leica has also delivered, there's no glare even on direct sunlight, the dof is way too good to be called as a phone camera, selfi cam is garbage, it's almost like it's the software issue cause 32mp looks like 5 to me, gcam fixes it a bit, but I'm not a selfi person, so doesn't bother me, all the network bands and everything necessary works, gpay , etc, chrome also works no issues, but it's not easy, you gotta commit a whole day, debloating, installing google apps and removing Chinese ui stuff and all, in the end everything works, only things that doesn't work include google assistant, it works but badly and google lense doesn't scan qr codes but it scans everything else, but the phone is absolutely amazing, everything is insane top tier stuff, speakers to display to gaming performance, if you want something that works out of the box and expect everything to run smooth, then this is a bad choice, but if you can withstand the pain of a china ROM, until the eu ROM drops(if it ever happens) then go for it, i got it from giztop site, arrived in 4 days, and it's definitely a beast

I'm okay with the cons. i just had hard time looking for reviews that gave much attention to the front selfie camera. Nick the reason Real Racing 3 was capped at 60 FPS is because of the refresh rate. Simply turn the battery saver on and turn it off while in game and you will go from 60hz to device’s max refresh rate! I hope this helps

For the "most detailed review ever" and the 20+ minutes you spent reviewing cameras, you never at all mentioned camera performance in 3rd party apps (instagram,tiktok,snapchat etc.) which literally every review misses and i don't know why since it is important as this is touted as the "best camera phone" even though through my assumptions and how xiaomi has been doing with 3rd party app optimizations i would assume that those cameras suck in that department where as the S22U and 13PM are optimized for 3rd party camera use!!! (Edit): Still i think you did an awesome job with this review i just have constructive criticism for almost every phone reviewer that they should take just a little bit of time to review camera performance in 3rd party apps 😊

Same 1-inch sensor that is in the earlier release of the Sharp Aquos R7, although this one (S12) uses the whole of it. My spouse tried to get me the R7 from Docomo, but they messed us around, so we bought the Xiaomi for cash instead. Great review thus far, by this point > 15:44 .

I'm using Mi 9t pro on Snapdragon 855 & thinking to buy Xiaomi 11T Pro on Snapdragon 888 but clock speed of both processors is same. And I have heard throttling issue with Xiaomi 11T Pro & battery drainage issues so I'm in doubt. Should I buy Xiaomi 11T Pro ? My priorities are Gaming COD mobile & multimedia consumption. thnx for the video woould you also review the best budget flagship we have "zte nubia z40s pro" as well? for 3300RMB-500USD , that's a steal with all great features that others don't do (4K 120fps, good telephoto instead of useless 2mp macro, usb3.1 instead of usb2.0,and some options in the UI settings .etc ) although Myos isn't for everyone . it checks more good box than shortcoming and makes other 550-700$ "budget flagship called phones" to the shame. we should really shout out to nubia for doing this when they are not as big as xiaomi,BBK in smartphone market but old as hell.. those first models of nubia were better phones compared to xiaomi-oppo was comparable but vivo xplay series were overall better back then)
