Well the censor is actually smaller (1 inch down to 1/1.31 inch). But it’s still bigger than what Samsung , Apple and HUAWEI uses. However despite the fact that it’s smaller, Xiaomi really co-engineered it so it will be more stable. Also the flexible aperture is really useful and you can get all sorts of types of photo at your own control. The telephoto also got an upgrade. So I’d say unless you like to take pictures in extreme darkness, then the camera definitely improved.

i guess those upgrades are just software wise. why should a 13 pro not be able to record in 8k 30 or front camera 4k 60? front camera Sensor of the 13 pro is Omnivision OV32C and of the 14 pro it's Omnivision OV32B (an even older sensor if you check the last letters?)

Thank you for sharing this first impression! My first impression of the camera quality is that I like the colour rendering and autofocus quality. Even the front facing camera has nice colours despite being a little overexposed. And stabilization looks good too. Although not as good as a Vivo X90 Pro Plus for example, it will be plenty good enough for most users. Shutter speed control is still a huge problem on smartphone cameras in general. Most camera phones produce video with unnatural movement. Having a fixed and bright aperture is just not ideal for video. Look at the jittering movement after the drone shot at 5:17. You can see that the video consists of many still shots: a too high shutter speed has been used. There is no ND filter in the phone after all to compensate for the bright light. In the mall it is the other way around: look at the letters on the shop at 6:37, they move around all over the place because shutter speed is too low. The video is shot at 60fps, so the ideal shutter speed would be 1/120 seconds. In bright sunlight, you get to 1/500 or shorter at f/1.46, while in dim lighting in the mall you have to bump ISO to uncomfortable levels, or adjust shutter speed to for example 1/60 or even 1/30. This shutter speed problem is typical for Xiaomi, especially in bright environments. In dimmer environments, it is a trade-off between too much noise because of high ISO, or too much motion blur because of a too slow shutter speed. That is something Xiaomi can improve on, or at least give the videographer the choice. In dim environments, shooting at 30fps will help a bit. Nevertheless, this will most probably be my next phone. It seems to be a very complete and well thought out phone :)

@@batsoupp The imperfections that I mentioned cannot be easily fixed in any phone, you need a lens with proper ND filters if you want to film in bright daylight. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra can be equipped with an adapter, to be able to use standard 52mm filters. For night videography, I do not know better alternatives. For the best video look, you can always best use a dedicated camcorder, where you can fix the shutter speed.
