Seems like quite a fine dashcam for someone like me, who wants something that can record with good quality during the day and night, have license plates be readable if ever needed but without costing much. I only have one question though, and it is about its durability: How well does it resist under the sun? And on that note, am I right in assuming that when parking under the sun on a hot day, it might be best to remove the camera and hide it away (or take it with me) in the shade?

This one has a battery inside, so if it is really hot - it might be not optimal. They give it a pretty good temperature tolerance... You may check the BLueskysea B1W - it has supercapacitor inside.

70MAI, hahaha.. The literature translation is 70 Km/H. (In China, some people simply call the 'km/h' as 'MAI 4 or 迈'. So, 70 迈（Mai4） = 70 KM/h. However, originally the MAI is from an English unit which is Mile.

If you are connected via Wifi and you want to have mobile data - then yes, you will need to rely on the 4G. The camera is designed to be automatic - just start the car and it will begin recording automatically. You turn off the engine - it will stop recording after 5 seconds.

They are using some weird modification of the codec - it is supposed to be x264, but I also get issues, especially during the post production. You can use VLC player for playback. Not sure how things work with exporting on iPhone though.

It has collision detection, meaning that it will power on and start recording after a collision happens. Better search for a device with motion detection, or at least - timelapse parking mode.

Sure - sounds like it got a factory reset; Unfortunately in order to make it record again, you will have to go through the initial setup - which requires you to connect to the camera Wifi and make the initial setup usind the 70mai app.

GoPro doesn't have a specially developed mode for that, and is designed for different purposes. Not sure which one is the best voice command dashcam... I barely use these voice commands. Some of my favorite dashcam models are from BlackVue.

Hey all, I'm having some problems with my Xiaomi 70mai smart dashcam 1S. When I'm watching the footage I've recorded of a drive, I always notice that in about half of the video files the sound is muted. During a drive I sometimes notice the camera is picking up the "record without sound" command while I'm not saying anything. This is also more prevalent during conversations I have in the car in both Dutch and English. I just want the cam to always record sound, so is there any way to disable the voice commands, or does anyone know what causes this problem? Thanks!

@@TechMishka Yes I have, in VLC the sound playback is fine. It's just that the actual dashcam stops recording sound halfway through. You can even hear the audio cut out halfway through a file and not turn back on until I've used the voice command "record with sound" again. I've also tested it by running the dashcam in a quiet room for 1,5 hours, and it just muted itself again after a while.

There's no need to disconnect it from the charger - as this is what triggers the power-on when the engine starts up.

I found these issues with this dashcam, if you start car while this dash camera is booting up it'll go into fault state, if voice recording is turned off, it will be randomly turned on while you are talking or listening to music.

I have a big problem with this dashcam English version (fw: 1.0.6.eu), if I insert a tf card greater than 16gb of class 10 or better gives me this message: "tf card is not work, please format or change", if I try to format via the application, the LED goes off and crashes, gearbest sent me another one to replace it but it has the same problem.

Is it a no-name microsd? If so ... just pick something proper - I have used the 70 mai with a samsung class 6 for more than 3 months without problems, and most likely it is the SDcard that is the trouble. If I remember correctly - you can format the sdcard from the button too - press it three times. But again - likely if the sdcard is in a bad shape, it won't change much. Try a simple test - connect the microsd to a PC and try to copy data onto it. If the copy speed is below 2-3MB per second in long term - then confirmed it is the one to blame.

It is designed to do so - so that the files are easy to transfer. It is a fixed setting in the firmware. Having shorter videos is done on purpose - so that corruption of files is avoided. You can stick the videos with a software if needed.

Neither of them. You can record on a 32GB MicroSD card, and there's no way to broadcast; You can use the smartphone app to upload the files after recordings are finished.

I have 2 questions - can this one be used with an Android car head unit? I guess it will work fine as it's almost pure android and I can install the app on the head unit ... And the second question - can this work as a PC camera? Asking for the same reason, my head unit has options for PC camera to be used as a DVR, but most DVRs don't have this option

Hi Ramon, the camera is fully automated - it starts recording as soon as the car engine is ON. If the engine of the car is not working, the camera will shut down. It may hypothetically record on battery only, however the battery is very small and can last for 10-15 minutes. If you are looking for recording in parking mode - check in google for "hard wire kits".

@@TechMishka The camera should start recording as soon as there's power supplied to it via the lighter socket (or any other source, like a power bank), meaning the engine doesn't need to run, just to have the ignition key in the ON position (pre-start), for the cars with key start. There's also the possibility that power is supplied all the time to the lighter socket (on some cars/models), hence the setting on the camera, which instructs it to power down when the engine is turned off. Just as a small adding to you answer. :D

It doesn't have parking mode (at least with the firmware I used it with) - you can find such a feature with the 1S and it is based on the gravity sensor and not a motion sensor. As for the battery - it may last 10-15 minutes.

it works entirely automatically and as soon as the card is full it removes the oldest recordings. The recordings that are marked as "emergency" are read only and they will stay. You can mark a recording as emergency via the button or with a voice command. It it automatically happens if the gravity sensor is triggered.

It is powered via a USB cable that is connected to the car lighter port. Inside there is a small battery that is used to supply power for keeping up the recording in case of an accident.

Hi and thank you a lot for these excellent questions! Let me give you some answers: 1. If the camera is connected to the power outlet of the car, it will turn on automatically every time the car starts. THe dashcam is designed to work unattended - no intervention from the driver. You don't have to do anything - it will begin recording on its own. If the sdcard is full, it will stat deleting the oldest entries automatically. 1.2 In case of emergency, it starts the recording in special mode where it keeps the fire in a separate directory, which can only be deleted manually. 2. Commands work no matter what. The Wifi is only used for transfering to your smartphone. 3. That depends on the country. This dashcam is equipped with 220mah li-ion battery inside (used for mintaining recording in case of crash). If you live in Australia and it is super hot - then be careful. Xiaomi confirm it will be fine eve in temperatures up to 65 degrees. Still - it is worth checking for a dashcam that has a capacitor instead of battery - like Blueskysea B1w.

hi iNinz, there are a few things to highlight in regard to your questions: 1. all videos are saved in chunks of 70 secodns. Meaning that video is continuously recorded and once it reaches 70 secs, a new file is being created. 2. If the camera is configured to reply on the gravity sensor, once there is a sudden shock (sometimes road bumps can activate this too), the currently recorded file is being marked as "read-only" and is being preserved. This is the so-called emergency mode. 3. If you would like to manually mark a video as read-only - you can do that via pressing the button. These are the few occasions that can be related to your question. After that you can download the files using the app :-)

You mean to mark a video? You can just press the button. To copy it to external media - just use the smartphone app, or copy the content of the microSD.

Doesn't sound like normal' If all of them do the same thing - likely it is a firmware issue affecting all units, which would be weird. The emergency video you can avoid by disabling the Gravity sensor in the app settings.

Hi George, the plan is to use the power supply from the cigarette lighter port. This one is usually enabled when there is contact. Plan "B" is if you have car audio with USB port.

I own both 70mai and 70mai Pro version. Pro version has much better picture colors, supports H265 codec. Cheaper version has Wi-Fi turned on normally, which is annoying.

Can I connect to a Chinese version of the cam using English version of the Android app? I don't need voice commands and the Chinese version is less expensive compared to its international counterpart.

I think you could, yeah. At least that was the case with 70Mai (original). And perhaps there is a way to flash the international ROM on the chinese version.

Hi Yarni - I don't think so. The flash is perhaps different size and you may brick it. You can use custom recorded samples and replace the original chinese samples though. Unfortunately there is no "cure" for the voice commands - they will be activated only via Chinese language.

I remember having seen a command to do that via a web brwoser when connected to the camera wifi, cannot find it in the comments though. There are plenty of good instructions in the russian forums - 4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=846196 - you may use the ntegrated translator in google Chrome to read it in English.

Vikram, is it the international version? Is the speeck engine in English? Overall you don't need the app for voice commands - the dashcam should understand them on its own.

You just need to make sure you have a big enough microSD. Perhaps you will have to switch cards after the 7th hour to make sure all the footage is kept. It stays on for as long as the power is connected.

It automatically erases the old files, unless they are marked as protected (this can be done via pressing the button on every recording). I gave the 7hr as estimation - you just need to check when the space will become full. If you are concerned about erasing old files, think about getting a cheaper actioncamera.

What about capacitors? Battery cams are less reliable. 1080p is fairly meaningless. What's the data bit rate? How about transferring files on wifi - some apps take forever, in which case is it easy to dismount the camera to take indoors to your PC?

The 1080p still provides good amount of data. Bitrate is 11-12Mb, just about right. As for the transfer - the limit is the 2.4. But since the files are all one-minute chunks, the transfer works pretty quickly.

Yes, it will survive at 35 degrees, but I believe if your car is under direct sunlight for prolonged period of time, it may be much higher than that. Usually these cameras are tested for being fine up to 55 degrees. If the battery is a concern - check dashcams with supercapacitor, like the Blueskysea B1w.
