Xiaomi Mi A1 Back Panel Replacement

Please remember the screen is very well secured to the rear chassis so a very small degree of force is needed to insert the plastic tools to detach the screen from the frame. Do not try to force the screen with a metal object as this will crack the delicate outer frame of the screen. Any questions though, please ask.

As I repair stuff in my spare time I thought it would be good to share this brief video showing how easy it is to replace the rear panel of the Xiaomi Mi A1/5X - I was very surprised at how the internals have been assembled directly to the rear of the display panel, this makes for an easy swap out although the screen is secured in tight!
I may well do more of these types of video if there is enough interest, let me know what you think?!
I recorded this on my OnePlus 3T so there is some focus hunting on the video - I edited using Premiere Clip for a change as it's a relatively straightforward video.

Hi Matheus. It's an original Xiaomi part and so far it's been very durable. Even after putting the phone down on concrete and hard surfaces there's not a mark on it - happy so far! 👍

My mi a1 also fell to the floor and i want to replace the back cover, so this is it, but also the upper right part of my screen is slightly not fully attached to the phone, how will i stick it back in?

Did you ensure the top of the screen was fully inserted via the guide clips? Sounds obvious I know but just checking 👍

Dave West no i haven't done the replacement yet, im just citing the effects of the fall to my mi a1, my back metal case is slightly bent backwards that's why i think the upper right part of the screen is not fully attached to the phone

There are none, as all of the components are attached to the rear of the screen it simply clips onto the rear metal tray. There were no rubbed bungs at all which means this has no resistance at all to dust or water 👍

@@DaveWestMedia That's great news, I thought too that I'm going to pull all the battery stickers and unscrew the plates and annihilate my warranty. One more question - do these screwdrivers leave marks on black screws? Just want it to look factory after I change the back cover.

No, you'll need to purchase it separately. But as this is quite old now I'm unsure where you'd find it.

+Appu JD Back Panel is £38 new here in the UK but bare in mind it's a Mi 5X rear panel (same phone) so it doesn't have the Android One branding 👍

Hi there, I've checked online and can't see anywhere in India which sells the back panel replacement. The only places are in Europe and USA ☹️ I'm unsure of what shipping costs would be, but the ones sold in the places above are an original OEM part so will fit perfectly 👍

I only know of places in the UK and Europe which sell the items for replacement I'm sorry - I do not know of any places in your region which would sell them. Have you tried contacting Xiaomi to see if there is an official reseller in your area?

+Sujan Sye I would imagine so, but there's nothing evident upon opening it that would indicate a warranty void sticker. The screws at the base are not coloured either so I cannot be 100% sure if the warranty would be void or not

Thanks for the reply Actually I didn't Know how to open the back panel but after seeing your video I opened the screw at the bottom and I opened the back panel because there was some dust in the back panel"s camera cover so I need to remove that The only main reason to open the back panel of my Mi A1 is to clean the camera cover of the back panel that's it I didn't do anything to battery and camera I just only cleaned the dust Will you please tell me is it possible to void my warranty??

+Sujan Sye As far as I can see, there's no way for them to tell if the device has been opened or not. They'd have to be able to prove it if questioned. Opening a phone to clean it would not usually void the warranty but making alterations to it would so I think you'll be fine 👍

Yeah Dave I think so I haven't changed anything in inside I just cleaned the dust in the camera with the help of liquid and cotton I didn't change anything inside the mobile my main purpose was to clean the camera that's it I just opened the two screw and opened the back panel and just cleaned the dust in camera with cotton I guess my warranty wouldn't be voided I hope so Dave bro

Actually even I've the Mi A1, but unfortunately it got bent in the bottom right corner, the back panel and the display also is bent. 😣 But the display works absolutely fine, no problems with it, but the display has popped out slightly only the bottom portion of the phone! Even after putting a new back panel the display gap doesn't go.. Really sad for it. Any suggestions?

+Vikram As the front panel is bent (there's a metal frame behind the screen which has caused this) then the only option is to swap out the display for a new one - not sure how difficult this is though!

+Abhishek Chhetri It cost me £30 all in and took about 30 minutes to fit as the screen frame is held on VERY securely. Needs patience and some care to ensure the outer plastic frame on the screen isn't damaged 👍
