Xiaomi Mi WiFi Router 3 - Review

So this is the latest addition the Xiaomi's router family and this time around they are braining a lot of speed for a very reasonable price around $30-40, depending on the retail place you are ordering it from. I personally pre-ordered mine from GearBest.com and the moment it became available, it was shipped right away and I received it fairly quick. Some specs of the router - AC1200, a USB for additional storage, very slim and compact with 4 external antennas.

*** Correction, there is an English version available now, the link is updated to the EN version.
The only negatives for me is the lack of any English explanation or a menu, Chinese only, but I was aware of that and the other is the LAN standard it only 10/100 with a lack of 1000, which for some people might be a problem, but for me personally and especially for the price, it is not.

How is the 5GHz signal strength? I've heard mixed things, some said it was next to useless on 5GHz. And since it only has a 100Mb/s ethernet cable, how much of that bandwidth does it actually use? I.e would a 100Mb internet connection be limited much?

For me is OK, same as my other and much more expensive routers. If you have higher provider speed than 100mb connection, it might be a bottleneck, but if its lower, you are good to go.

yousef z998 Start from the beginning, reset the Xiaomi router. Plug the cable from your modem or whatever you have coming as an outside internet to the WAN port. From there either the App or web interface setting, by default the router should pickup your external IP and set it, unless you have a static IP from your provider, then you need to manually enter it.

is the lan-entry limited to 100mb or only the two out lan ports. if limit on entry how the hell would one take advantage of +1000mb/s AC JUst got this router in the mail today, was on sale around 26US delivered and trying to make sense of it. (my alternative is an 6year old WNDR4300 netgear router, but at first glance when on AC capable phones this router doesnt impress much hence any ACspeed and doesnt sense the 5Ghz alternative any where?..do you need to activate that 5G option thrue web and not able on app.? (only been setting it up true app sofare). but only 20 minutes into it.. but manuels no help ewen thow it should be the socalled international version, its still chinese all eh way,only thing sofare nt in chinese is the app.

but for the moment i have just exteneded the cable from the gigabit wndr4300 router to this Miwifi3 thrue lan cable in the hope that this would "would manage AC in the old router#" hence an 6year old WNDR4300outer...(perhaps thats why it havent activated the Mi 5ghz band since there is already the 5ghz band from the WND4300)

"Mb" and "MB" are not the same thing, 1 MB is equal to 8 Mb. So 100 MB port will give you 800 mbps. Use google translate on chrome for the menu.

Oh, okay. Got it! So if my plan is only 10mbps, so it's still max at 10 mbps right even if i have this? But the only difference is if I have this and a lot of devices are connected in wifi, we can all still get 10mbps speed because this is faster. So. What im thinking is if ypu have 10mbps with provider the speed will be distributed to all devices, example 5 devices so we get only 2mbps per device. But with xiaomi wifi, we get to use 10mbps?

@@tinalove4988 i wouldnt say all of u will get stable 10mbps but probs higher than mbps, ill say around 4-6 mbps also this router has dual band meaning this router will have 2 networks, the one being 2.4ghz which is the standard wifi router band and the other being the 5ghz which is alot faster than the 2.4ghz only if u are close to the router itself, the main point of this xiaomi router is to improve the signal strength or coverage

Hmmm, the last Linksys I used was the WRT54GL, and the signal was great, the whole router was a beast, in fact my parents still use it, after 10 years. I wouldn't dare to make a comparison with it, but this one is not bad at all, especially for the price.

Hmmm, the Linksys wrt54g is a beast, but in all honesty the Xiaomi has just as good range, as the rest of my routers, probably a very small advantage to the Linksys wrt54g.
