I'm watching for a second time on my Fold 5. Have owned both the Flip and Fold for multiple generations, but must admit that the Chinese foldables have the form factor. Floss correctly mentions the outer screen advantages of the Xiaomi, but, for me, the advantages really come on the main display. 8" versus 7.6". More screen, better experience.

Hey Carter your clear assessment on the foldable design outer dimensions reflect my perspective on them too. You're also correct about the Google pixel shorter outer display which will definitely entice certain people who will desire the shorter dimension. And again Carter you made a valid analogy of seeing these foldable phones twenty years ago who'll be flabbergasted upon first sight. Now the telephoto zooming seem to be taking off on the right direction as we can see on the Xiaomi Mix fold 3. The wireless charging speed is remarkable and idealistic for everyday use. 😎💯💪🏾✊🏾

Honestly Floss this is my favorite foldable that I've seen hardware wise. I also prefer One UI but I'm slightly familiar with the old Xiaomi MiMix OS's back when the HTC One X and HTC One M7 were out. (I always wanted an M9). Since you're so thorough in your reviews I am also pretty well versed in modern Xiaomi OS's. So I agree it seems nicer than the childlike, flashier OS's. Also a big shout out for reviewing all the relevant Chinese foldables. Pings peeps are willing to mess with sizes more rapidly. I mean I'm pretty sure I took a class in college called rapid prototyping. It's more ballsy and I like it. It's more of a space race approach and they may win. If Samsung doesn't hurry up and release that better form factor how are S23 Ultra Owner's and in general Samsung Knight's at all going to justify such a wildly narrow phone. It has a width folded 1mm smaller than the Asus Zenfone 10 and 11mm narrower then the S23 Ultra. Meanwhile the height is 8mm taller than the Zenfone 10. Almost the same amount it is missing from the proportions of the width between the Ultra and Fold 5. Now I agree some people like narrow phones (Sony fans). But I have small hands and I still have an Ultra and had a Note 20 Ultra which was slightly bigger. I've been getting larger phones because I consume more and more content on my phone. So if Floss didn't talk about the Xi Jinching Specials who would? If this phone had stylus support, an Ingress rating, and One UI it would be the best foldable all around.

Honestly I prefer the Chinese foldables, design wise! Like you said breda, imagine one UI on this foldable, with the charger, case etc in the box. It would really change the game. Regarding the Android skin, I generally want my Android flavour to be uncluttered and consistent, so MI UI isn't that good for me. My favourite is Sony's skin, or at least the one they had a few years ago. Google and Motorola are probably in the top 3, and Samsung 4th. So it's pretty different from your list, Floss, but thank you because you're thorough enough to help everyone make their own decisions when you showcase all these phones.

And you can just disable or hide or leave alone what you don't want in "heavy" UI like ONE UI or MI UI. So please I'm really curious what is it about those simple OS?

@@hpit11 I never said that I don't like options. I just want them to be uncluttered. That means, I want my app features and settings in sensible places. Consistency is an aesthetic thing, as I dislike having different design philosophies for the default Samsung phone app and Google SMS app on a Samsung phone, for example. Samsung and Xiaomi have a lot of settings (never used Oppo) but they're often needlessly separated into different overlapping categories. Sometimes I struggle to find my way around such a device when I wish to do one specific thing. It is actually because I prefer options that Sony's skin is above Google's, because otherwise Google is the best at not giving you options, lol. I love my heavy UIs, but the big ones generally struggle to remain coherent in my eyes, which ultimately becomes a detriment. I think people who want option-less phones are those who don't play around with settings and just want it to work. More gestures and options means more chances of messing things up. Whether they are old people who struggle to operate a smartphone or busy workers who don't want surprises to occur while using their phones, "clean OSes" have their place. In the end, each person should choose what fits them.

Flex mode looks better on "wider" screens. This is most noticable on a surface duo/duo2 ..The google Pixel only need to go a bit taller. Once you go fat, you don't go back. These folds are great but still a bit narrow and excess tall for one handed use. Your personal tastes will vary, but none are better in flex mode than old surface duo models. Hoping the "1+" will give a better form factor than these units, but this mix3 is looking great regardless.

If purchsed, Return before too late. Special $$$ trade in deals will not help user experience. Any fold will be impressive to a new user. All are multitasking great. Samsung is just too narrow for vertical use . Must use it sideways every time. Yet even sideways its not the best. .For instance, "Flex mode" looks better on "wider" screens like the google pixel. This is most noticable on a surface duo/duo2 ..The google Pixel only need to go a bit taller. Once you go fat, you don't go back. These folds are great but still a bit narrow and excess tall for one handed use. Your personal tastes will vary, but none are better in "flex mode" than old surface duo models. Hoping the "OnePlus" will give a better form factor than these units, but this mix3 is looking great regardless. The Fold5 is actually just a Fold4"s", and should have been sold for $900, because of zero change in innovation or design. Just a more "polished" Fold4 unit, because of "forced" normal updated parts changes(like the chips), due to parts manufacturers updating their latest parts and EOL replacements, which always include circuit diagram updates for thier updated parts, so practically ZERO innovation here... Consumers fall for "new toy syndrome" and shiny new parts. Even the screen HAD to be updated regardless, as manufacturing of screens always racing to have new parts, and not last year, old parts. Samsung just lazy cashing in on an updated phone, instead of pushing for a new design. This year is a "skip-year" for Samsung, unless your getting an s23 Ultra, which actually has a Bluetooth integrated s pen & great cameras.

Honor Magic V2 will global release in two weeks (it is still not clear if the global version will ship with a stylus?) . Please compare the two as in depth as possible - particularly the speakers. And, if possible, compare the V2 stylus performance to the Fold 5 s-pen. A charging speed comparison (wired and wireless) would also be appreciated as well as a direct side-by-side comparison of Google Maps, Kindle eReader, KZbin (on both screens), Zoom call, split-screen multitasking comparison, etc. A comparison of the weight (what you think of it) would help as well since the V2 weighs on the scale at 235 grams while the Mix Fold 3 is weighing in at 267 grams. Does this 30 gram difference matter to you? I'm possibly going to buy the V2 once it ships globally (if the stylus works)! Lastly, a battery drain test compared to the Fold 5 as Xaomi has made bold claims in this area.

I totally agree with everything you said about this phone it is beautiful. There are a few things I would like to see in the full review the comparison to the Magic V2 and also if the phone would work with a UK sim in it as I always hear about international devices not working in the UK because of bandwidths on networks and wireless and Bluetooth
