Xiaomi Smart Pet Food Feeder & Fountain Reviewed!

The world has gone smart. We have smart homes with loads of smart devices, appliances and gadgets, built with the purpose to make our lives easier and more connected. For those of us with pets, who are very often important members of our families, seeing to their needs can feel like another task. Xiaomi has created some nifty smart appliances to help us see to the important needs of our pets, and I have just received two of these smart appliances to review: The Xiaomi Smart Pet Food Feeder and the Xiaomi Smart Pet Fountain. Thanks for the review! I would like to buy the feeder as they seems to sell it everywhere in SA, but noticed in a app screenshot that they only seem to support round and oval food. My cat's Royal Canine Hairball has a triangular shape. Have you ever tried it with other shapes of kibble?

I haven't. But I'm not sure about shape, I know it does matter on the size?

​@@ThatCapeTownGuy Thanks for the quick response. I saw the un/supported 'shapes' in your video - check at 7:39. Arrrgh... now I don't know if I just need to take a chance with it, or if it will really clog while dispensing. Other pet feeders don't seem to have an issue with irregular shapes, but I don't particularly feel like importing a different brand. We have a lot of Xiaomi products that that is part of our home automation ecosystem.

thank you. Your video convinced me to buy it. What happens if I never replace the filter? Will the feeder continue to work? Filter is not available in my country and can’t buy it.

I think it should still work, just won't benefit the food.

You can 3d print an adapter that will store silica gel beads (reusable and internationally available).

Thank you for the video. I'm thinking of buying the water fountain for my 3 cats. I'm just wandering, is it short enough for a cat to drink comfortably?

@@peppasgeorge I have the water fountain. My Tiger is a tiny lady (a lot smaller than the average cat) and she is drinking normally. She loves the fountain. Switched to it instantly, I could remove the water bowl the same day.

You need the app to program it, though there is a physical button to release some food.

It does not have a battery, but there will be water left on the top of the fountain.

Turns out it just started to work properly overnight. Dunno why.
