The difference in the style of parenting determines their sons fates. Jia is blinded by ambition to making her son the next emperor. The fake assassination attempt and her son rescuing the emperor is the begining of the end of her son's chance to become emperor. Jia's inability to read the situation makes her blind to her own mistakes. Her son tries to warn her to be more prudent as does Ruyi. She doesn't listen and destroys herself and her son's future. He is permanently removed from the list of possible heirs to the throne. Hailan teaches her son to not draw attention to himself and become a target. He uses his skills and abilities to help his father as needed. As a result he becomes the emperor's choice to become the next emperor. Unfortunately Hailan's son is murdered by the scheming Yawan. She knew her son would never be selected as emperor as long as Hailan's son was alive. Yawan's crimes cause her to be put to death before her son becomes the next emperor. The emperor didn't have much choice in his heir. They rest were murdered or banned from becoming the next emperor like Jia's son.

Yeah, they were all scheming each other and killing and having children just for the main purpose of seizing the throne and their sons were against each other too. Jia unfortunately brought her and her sons demise and Yonqi on the other hand survived but was murdered by that crappy Ling but her son still became the emperor but she suffered a lot yet she still achieved her goals for her son. The sins of the parents does not need to brought by the child but unfortunately Jia did and her sons warent fully innocent

@@Estelle-f6s The sons of Jia were already at a disadvantage. The Ling situation was a made up story. The story of Ruyi’s maid (who later hung herself) who became a concubine is probably most real. Her family suddenly became useful. So her status elevated and in turn that elevated her family. The Mongolian and Korean and Muslim concubines meant to elevate their people or at least keep the current situation. It’s more like Spain and England marrying so neither attacks the other. He held some of her people there as hostages for her to stop resisting. The emperor wanted to safeguard his borders so he married into the families on the outskirts. His sister and daughter ended up being married off to men there. He also married noble families that helped run the government. It’s why his dad would not let Ruyi be the main wife. Hailan was eager to have her son raised by a more powerful concubine. Not for power though. Course she ended up being able to share in the raising. She was from a good family or would not even been allowed into the forbidden city, but not a useful one. But even a child from a woman from a good family was more likely to be emperor than a child from a concubine from Korea. There was a reason Jia was needing to do more. Notice he could not be harsh with certain consorts because of gov relations. He had to let Jia’s actions go for the sake of diplomacy. The one consort kept talking of the support of her clan.

Noble Consort Chun's too. I think it's because while Noble Consort Hui lived, Empress Xiaoxian liked to be frugal (I think it's mentioned in the novel it is an excuse for her to avoid the consorts and concubines from getting too much attention from the Emperor). Zhenhuan even called her out for it, which is why we see the other harem members dressing up better at the end of Empress Xiaoxian's life. With Ruyi as Empress, she doesn't have that worry, so she allows concubines and consorts to groom themselves well, so as to not make the harem lose face to outsiders. Jia has also been a proud and vain woman, so she uses her clothing to show off her high rank and importance.
