Forms are not only about fighting in the ring for example. Forms have moves to defend against a situation in which you are assaulted, forms also show moves for wrestling, grappling and finally, countering an attack by grabbing, pushing, pulling, strike while grabbing the wrist or any kind of locks.

I actually used this stance in sparring. I used it to get my leg away from a low kick but you can use this stance to dodge a high kick. Ding Bu is a good stance for that too. Not gonna lie, some kung fu stances are used in weapon fights as sneaky attacks to catch off-guard the opponent that swings at you.

Most definitely, a lot of kung fu comes from weapons fighting, and is then adapted for unarmed combat

Hi, xiebu and side kick is a strength and balance training, not a application. Also xiebu is often used in shuaijiao and judo before throws. Kung fu Is not only about boxing, but also throwing. Sorry for my bad english.

No problem, it's actually very good! You're quite right it can be used that way, unfortunately I filmed this during a lockdown, so was limited in what I could show. You can use xie bu to side kick as an attribute trainer yes, but there are better ways to train these same things. Sometimes in martial arts we end up with overly contrived ways of doing things.

3:30 that's the CUBAN version of the check hook from boxing. if you want to improve that technique, look up cuban boxing instructor charlessalbox up he's got a video of him teaching it in england. what you are not doing correctly is you are keeping your head sort of in the middle, you need to have your back swivel into a powerful counterpunch as soon as you pivot and your head is out of the way. it's a great way to evade a shot and land 1 or even 2 shots (you can throw a mean hook after it with the back hand) basically, the back turns and the head leans back, so your head is now really to the left of where you start the move.

That's interesting to know, thanks. How do you feel about that move? Do you think it is practical?

@@KungFit to know the origen of the step as in wubuquan is at least practical for karatekas to know ( but do they ?)and in the application in chigong exercises for the one's who are aged and crippled , yes indeed

@@Featherdsun how about the xie bu to side kick? I feel like it might be fine as a flashy move, but not the most practical to actually apply. I had a look at the kata, the version I saw they do a very high xie bu, which would seem better

@@KungFit the kick comes after a sequense of low stances from a kind of pubu you drag your leg toward xiebu in combination with a block after this my body is happy to come up again and a fajin sensation appears on the moment of belasting the kick . In combatsituation a kick toward the knee might be more effective

it's good for throws there's a karate video showing it. most of the wrestling application has been lost outside of china's few legit master, i have found another application which is slightly better than side kicks for sure, it's spinning. if you go into that coiled, curled stance, you can stand up spinning clockwise and throw what is a hook+spinning backfist little combo from an unexpected distance. like a lotus flower opening. it preps you up for spinning moves. i actually got this from the kung fu films themselves. you can see in exaggerated kung fu films that they use the crosstep to coil up and then they spin out flying through the air. it still isn't a great idea though, coiling your legs and lowering to that extent puts you in so much danger it's not even funny. you could try to do it as a fakeout into an explosive spin but what's the point of such a risky maneuver

3:52 that's the Dominic Cruz /muhammad ali sidestep, its better if you exaggerate the crossing of the foot. you need to really send the back leg flying sideways and follow that momentum. it's exactly what muhammad ali did when he was moving left. you can mix that up with an L step from boxing they really play well off of each other. the L step moves you rightwards, and the crossstep that dominic does moves you leftwards. it must never be done in range of the opponent, so doing it at close range is a huge no no, any slight push while your feet are crossed and you are in deep trouble. it's only for repositioning quickly inside of the ring or whatever arena you're fighting in, always while further than 1 punch away. EDIT: oh damn i see you mention and actually show muhammad ali doing it. (i should always watch the full video before commenting!!) BUT he's gliding on it!!!!!!! if you do it with little steps like a cockroach you can get timed with a low kick and swept completely
@KungFit
@KungFit Жыл бұрын
Haha, no worries. Yeah it is a slightly different method, but similar idea. The momentum definitely helps you move wider faster. I thin it all depends on your overall style and what you are trying to achieve. If you want to be able to change direction or attack at any point, having less momentum is useful so you can interrupt yourself. I'd also say that you can do it close in, if you have the right timing and context, certainly not just in isolation though! As with most things in combat, there are rules, but if you do it right, you can break them. The amount of times we've all heard "never cross your feet", that's not strictly true, it's a conditional rule of thumb.

Sounds great! We've all got to find our own way to make things work for us. Everyone's body is different, so we can all do martial arts in a way that suits us. Despite doing Shaolin, I've never been the springiest person, so acrobatics have never been my focus for example. One of my training buddies is like a kangaroo though!
