I've recently been travelling around Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and my first stop was the capital, Urumqi. I've actually been to Urumqi before, around 6 years ago, so this was a good chance to see if anything has changed, and I also got a chance to see some of rural Urumqi County. Of course, I also got to sample some of the amazing local cuisine and couldn't resist a quick shopping trip to Urumqi's Grand Bazaar. (Filmed the week of May 17, 2021)

I am Indian studying medicine in Bejing, I had a few friends from XAR and one them invited me to his place in Xinjiang, trust me it's sooo unique and different. Loved the friendliness and relaxed atmosphere. Then I saw this BBC video about all the camps and I was like wth it wasn't like this when I went, it's sad that many in India thnk that's reality because of all the fake news!! I really refuse to believe there is anything weird going on. People were normal and happy living their life.

When I grew up in Tokyo, I read news from NHK and CNN that Xinjiang's Sad stories. Since I moved to shanghai with my mother (she is Chinese) and visit there 5 times to travel, shopping and visit friends. I found they are amazing. Thus, I do not trust what the hell I have been telling before. XinJiang is actually an amazing place with nice people.

The price of the raisins is not so welcoming. When visiting the less developed area in China, you may want to shop in the local supermarket to see the actual prices, then you have your standard to negotiate.

我劝各位哈，如果你没有15-20天的时间还是别去新疆了😂，我是过来人。新疆地域辽阔出乎你的想象，那边跨城和内地跨省差不多，时间太短的话你去了基本时间都会花在路上，也会感到疲惫。所以会有一种误解，新疆没有什么好地方游玩。另外一点就是想吃东西不要去广场，那里你根本体会不到物美价廉，好好的夜市文化非要搞成现在的模样，摊位费用翻倍，物价也就翻倍，也不能怪当地人。其实想吃东西就去城市里的小巷子，吃的很多很多，而且超级便宜！！希望能帮到即将去新疆游玩的人！

对的对的！！ 谢谢科普！我就是乌鲁木齐人，自驾游就是从小到大和爸妈亲戚一起出游的唯一方式。真的北疆需要7天以上然后可能就玩2天哈哈哈（路上走走停停的都是好风景、司机也需要休息），其他的都在路上（乌鲁木齐出发到阿勒泰）南疆最好绕一下沙漠毕竟风险大，但是车好有经验的可以去体会一下沙漠之行。反正我作为一个新疆人都没怎么玩完呢。。。orz 吃的那些就看本地人去哪吃就行了哈哈哈哈，尤其是学校附近的饭馆都不错。

This is Xinjiang the West don't want us to see. I have been to Xinjiang twice and would have made it a third trip last year, if not for Covid-19. Beautiful place and incredible culture. Xinjiang is predominantly Uyghur in Kashgar (Kashi) and Hotan. There are also Tajiks, Kazakhs and Kyrgyzs. In Ili, there are Chinese Russians too.

When I was in high school I was chubby with a round face and a pair of big eyes, and there was once I went to Xinjiang with my father, people their always mistook me for Uyghur girl 😁 and when they found out that I was actually Han they were amazed and just gave me a lot of food... I remember there was one day my father and I went back to hotel with almost 5kg of grape 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and I always got much more meat in my dish when we went to restaurant 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ah wish I can go back to Xinjiang with my children, to show then how beautiful this place is!!!! And as my eldest son just finished 七剑下天山 by 梁羽生 a few weeks ago, he is now eager to go there and to see if he's lucky enough to find 优昙花......well...

I have been to Xinjiang, 10 years ago. Yes their raisins are out of this world. (I speak with the authority of having travelled to many countries in Central Asia, each with its own glass-shattering level of RAISIN POWER.) Once kissed by the Xinjiang Dried on the Branch Princess Consort Xiang Raisins (at that time NO export, even within China), it's pure spiritual death for any raisin lover to leave Xinjiang.
