Lately, I have been playing the Xiom Icecream AZX, and to me, the ALC is definitely the stronger, faster and more powerful side, which is especially noticeable a few steps away from the table, as s hots are just longer with less effort than with the ZLC side. This experience also matches Xiom's description of the blade. I use exactly the same rubber (Nittaku Fastarc G-1, 2.0 mm) on both sides). Previously, I have been playing the Stiga Ebenholz NCT V (also with the Fastarc G-1 and C-1, 2.0 mm), and I was surprised to find out that even as an all-wood blade it is noticeably more powerful and faster than the Icecream AZX.

I've been using the azx for over a month now. Swapped from a killer spin jet 800 which I'd modified with tibhar aurus prime on the fore and aurus soft on the back. It was a fast and spinny combo. However the azx, which I have both sides as xiom omega 7 Pro, is even faster. I don't think it's as spinny, but its so direct I find that it makes the ball feel as though its traveling a lot faster. Again I had the same issue is Dan, for the first three weeks I couldn't open up fully on the forehand side and kept hitting long when I tried. The backhand felt natural from the start although again I had issues getting the flick right on the backhand, until I realised it just needed a small adjustment from my last blade. Once I figured that out the backhand flick was even easier than my previous blade. All round I love this blade. I've fully adjusted to it now and I feel it gives me a lot in every area of my game, even short shots that require soft touch and feeling. Omega 7 isn't the most spinny of rubbers but they do pick up back spin really easily.

I recently use this blade xiom azx with tenergy 05 rubber. Indeed, its a special blade. Blade is good on all aries of play like blocks, chooping , pushing and of cours its very good on rallies. Xiom azx have a very nice feeling. I use the zlc side on the FH and for my BH because its more softer I use ALC. The quality of shot its premium. I recommand this blade for advance players because blade require a good tehnique on the stroke. Best regards and keep doing this reviews.

Ionut Badea what about the AZXi For an intermediate player? How is the sweet spot? And control? Especially verse the popular Timo Boll ALC..
@jarlaxle_ua5 жыл бұрын
@@dfy I purchased the AZXi a month ago. Just a week ago, I also purchased Omega 7 Asia (FH) and Euro (BH). At first it was slightly difficult to control the ball because of the speed (after switching from an allround blade). A few training sessions after the purchase I started to appreciate the quality, speed and spin of this blade. I am still in the discovery phase, because everything including the rubber is quite new for me + I am trying to experiment with both sides (switching ALC, and ZLC sides for BH and FH). So far ZLC (the softer and more controllable side) turned out to be better for my FH and ALC is better for the BH (for blocking and sometimes topspins). I like to have controllable blades (coming from the all wood blades) and this one does its job quite well (I wouldn't try AZX, I think it would be too fast for me at this point). Finally, I want to try switching Euro and Asia rubbers to find the optimal setup. My friend is using Timo Boll ALC with Tenergy 05 and MX-P and for me it is too fast and less controllable. We are both intermediate players. I do like my blade much more than the Timo Boll one. We play on the same level, but I think because of more control I manage to win 70% of the games with him.
@dfy5 жыл бұрын
Bogdan Pashynskyi I made the purchase! It took only a couple weeks to get used to and surprisingly my game has improved as well. Usually doesn’t work like that. Hi Dan, love your vids; they are a great help! Quick question: I am considering buying the Xiom AZX i blade. I am very new to the sport 6 months in, although excelling fast. I am consistently playing at about a rating of (900-1100 US). So I am still beginner, creeping up into intermediate level hopefully by the end of the year or 2020 sometime. Would the Xiom AZX i be too much of a jump for me? Also, any recommendations on a good Timo blade for my level as well? I currently use the Xiom Zi and prefer a blade with excellent feel/control/power. Thanks Dan!
@lfung7114 жыл бұрын
I think you should start by some pure wood blade like stiga clipper to build up your feeling first to use inner carbon, you need to concentrate your power when hitting, in purpose to make your force get through the first layer to reach the carbon layer
@dfy4 жыл бұрын
Lfung711 I ended up getting the xiom AZXi. I play around 1400-1500 rating now (1 year later) It’s great. Although last week I just bought an all-wood blade (butterfly Mazunov) to take a Step back for a while. Plan to train with all wood to further develop form and feel, or else I’m afraid I will peak prematurely. So you’re absolutely right.

the production process of a hybrid blade is not easy. thats the reason why factorys were not able to build a stable high quality hybrid (well known? ) blade in the past. Xiom claims to be the first who were able to create a blade that doesnt warp over the time, which is the critical point

@TTRHunter5 жыл бұрын
in my opinion the azx is comparable to vega euro, especially the ZLC site. in general the icecream blade are a bit faster also because the weight of these blades are a bit higher compared to vega blade series. the ALC site of azx is definitely more springy than vega euro blade. the azxi is difficult to compare to vega euro, because the carbon is at the core and also it has limba instead of koto outer ply.

Hi Stephen, these are both pretty fast and stiff blades so eve with softer rubbers they would be quick. We tested it with omega 7 rubbers which are fairly hard but and well suited to this style of blade. I personally think medium to hard rubbers work well with the ice cream blades but I'm sure with softer sponge you'd still get a lot of speed out of the ice cream blades.

Hi Ray, they are pretty similar overall to be honest. Both fast and stiff carbon blades with a firm feeling. So... did you turn the bat around and try to figure out if there's a difference between forehand and backhand side? I have played with so-called hybrid blades before. The Nittaku Combi Wood Attack is also a hybrid blade. From my experience there is no difference between the forehand and backhand sides of a hybrid blade if the top layer is the same. I think it's just a placebo effect. It's not a "new idea". Just a little list I found online: Nittaku Kombi Wood Defence Nittaku Kombi Wood Attack TSP-Reflex-Kombi Donic Carbokev BOF Spinbreaker BOF Twinblade Nittaku Magic Solution JZanders Hinoki Speed Changer Tibhar Musiro Yinhe Schild Hallmark Combination Tibhar Samsonov Techno-Power Giant Dragon Kris Giant Dragon Kris II Giant Dragon Kris Spezial Nimatsu Combi Attack Nimatsu Combi Safe Der Materialspezialist Wizard Dr.Neubauer Combination Effect Donic Alligator Combi TSP x.Series Defensive Combi Friendship 729 - Two Speed Carbon Sword Strange King Stiga - Hypertech CR 35/45

Hi L. Gyger, Thanks for your message. XIOM claims they are the worlds first hybrid 'carbon' blades. The blades you mentioned are any of them carbon? I know what you mean when you say placebo. It could also be a difference slightly in the rubber. There are a lot of factors that can contribute to the feeling.
@TTRHunter5 жыл бұрын
the idea is not new, that is true. But Icecream should be the first "successfull" hybrid blade...I think there is a reason why the blades listed above are not very well known. in my experience everyone who tested Icecream felt the difference of alc and zlc site, so I dont think its placebo...

The sound of the blade sounds cheap not like butterfly high quality blades. Basically you don’t need to buy an expensive blade to improve your game just need to improve your technique and footwork. Eg: top offensive players can play with any carbon blades.
