I mean, Google collects data from everyhting. Even your phone is sending them data about the sounds it hears. I've experienced this many times. For example, once, I've had my phone with me and been talking about something. When I then went to youtube, the first ad was about the exact subject that I had been talking about earlier. And no, it wasn't coincidence, because I had never seen those kinds of ads before and it was only that one time.

Here in America, a lot of children's programming exists solely as advertisement for all of the products that are licensed to the program; e.g., toys, prints, live shows, films, series DVDs, clothing, foodstuffs, bandages, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soap, bikes, skateboards, etc etc etc. Shows like Paw Patrol and PJ Masks exist solely to sell kids licensed merchandise. Here in America it's all about the almighty dollar, and it really is disgusting.

@MakusinMeringue5 жыл бұрын
Beth G Yeah, they collect your data on what sites you visit, your relatives, etc. to sell targeted advertisements. This is how they stay in business. Their filter bubbles and targeted ads are soo accurate that relatives have been targeted ads for baby products before they know their daughter is pregnant or something. Personally, I knew about this for years and haven’t cared that much. I welcome our data-collecting overlords.

Perhaps There’s something about the age range of the target audience, i have a young niece and when we would watch CBeebies (she’s a little older now) I don’t recall having much advertisement (most of the time, the ads would be of other shows on the same channel) On the other hand, as a kid, I remember watching the TV and seeing ads targeted for kids. (Toys and such) But those are on the channels that are targeted towards slightly older kids, like the Disney channel or Nickelodeon And many kids channels have this “we’ll be back right after this break” cut before they get onto ads So I’m pretty sure there are strict regulations set in place for kids channels, especially those directed towards younger kids On the other hand, KZbin does not have such regulations and there are channels that are clearly taking advantage of this, and it’s not very good for kids (or their parents) Some of these channels encourage spending lots of money on branded products and that is really detrimental to the mentality of the kids too. So overall, I’m actually glad for this change!

Nice talk, sorta shows a difference between the UK and USA as far as ads go. Children channels have nothing but toy adds. Here on youtube though, its bad. I like to share music and hermitcraft with my kids. When an add on youtube comes up, they do not even realize its a long add for a toy. It is set it up like its a news report or like they are friends talking about a cool toy. Nothing educational at all and sorta feels like the message is "the more you have the better you are". The data mining is worse though, you know how easy it is for adults to influence kids choices, the data collected could very easily be used to manipulate kids into bad choices (future or present choices). I've a 6yr old girl who loves the color green, I bet that one add with a "cool" girl saying pink is for girls and green is for boys would change her mind instantly. That kind of power is scary because it does stay with kids into adult life. That was a minor example btw, but if she grew up with that close minded bias... Well, USA still has its problems, I don't want to keep them going into the next generation. Thank goodness cigarette companies can't make adds for kids anymore.

KZbin has different rules and such for kids people under 13 I believe. When I first made an account I tried to comment or something and it told me I could not due to being under 13, so I promptly changed my DOB or just checked the box at the bottom of the screen that said restriction or whatever. That may have been removed a few years ago when the site went through the big redesign. I made an account in like 2012.

They said TARGETED ads though, right? Like, collected from data? Cause that ain't demonetization, I'd assume they'd just constantly show you Chromebook ads and advertisers that set their ads up as being for a general, unknown-to-YT audience. Or, you could get children's toy ads that are used for every kids' video. That being said, this could easily fall into "not what they mean." I just would like more information.

all laws apply on the internet and they should be accountable on all levels. Jay Foreman makes good videos. At the end they is a little wheel (which you get on ITV before the ADs) and the screen goes black so you know the video has stopped and its now an ad. Yogscast Lewis has a megaphone in a park to say its sponsored. people will be happy to meet standers they know about. Ignorantia juris non excusat or ignorantia legis neminem excusat (Latin for "ignorance of the law excuses not" Back to KZbin they know they shouldn't be collecting data on -K12, even if they lie when they set up the google account. I know 2 year olds that can skip the ad in 5 mins so un-targeted ads will be fine
