I want to see that plane with a 2S brushless motor and better receiver. Eliminate the problems and see how the airframe will actually fly. My guess is that would be a nice plane after the modifications.

I agree with you Jack. Most of the problems with these gyro planes can be fixed by just removing the gyro and installing a standard receiver ;-) I think this one would fly well with just a 1S Brushless system like the Eachine Mini P51D I converted to Brushless. This one should have even more power than the Mini P51D as it's a smaller, lighter plane. If I had time I'd convert all these Micros to Brushless. Sometimes though I think it might be less work designing and building a DIY plane from scratch for a 2S setup. That's what I'm going to do this Winter ;-)

Generally the Eachine Micro Warbirds are still the standard in this class. Any chance you gonna review the New Eachine Bf Me 109?

Hi Rodin! I don't have one in the pipeline at the moment but since these reviews are pretty much complete maybe they'll send one. It's another nice looking Micro Warbird and I think it has a 3-blade prop. I wonder if that will provide more power than the 2-blade props the others use. See you in the Air!

mine had a reversed motor, vibes bad from the get go, swapped it out for a P51 motor. basically the motor is running against the brushes and kills them quick

Hi Craig! Hum...that's no good! Did the P51 Motor solve the issue? Mine seemed low on power and not a lot of flight time.

I gutted my p-51, and put it all in that WL toys P-40 model you have, and it flys 5x faster and better with the Eachine gyro and all. Good video!

Hey David and thank you! Those Eachine Mini Warbird Gyros are about the best I've seen. I think they have become the standard to go by. I bet that P40 is a lot more fun with the P51 Gyro ;-) See you in the Air!

@@hajun._08 I always adjust the linkage to get these planes flying nice and level.
Slowing? The bushings of the motor and prop shaft may need oiling. Looks like that thin wing gives it pretty good speed as stock. Roll look sensitive. More expo on the aileron channel? Inability to loop makes me think nose heavy. Interesting. I didn't realize 1st flight was with the stock TX. That would explain poor control ability. Those POS's are really bad. It is unfortunate that Xk has so many issues with their planes. Happy flying...when you can.

Yes, lubricant on any of these gearboxes would be a benefit but one of the joys of living in the Desert is dirt and sand everywhere so it's not possible for me to lube the gearbox. Maybe some graphite but you'd have to apply it often. The balance on this is right where it should be so this one is not Nose or Tail heavy. It does fly fast as it seems to have some heavier wing loading than many of the Micros I've flown. It doesn't like to fly very slowly because of the wing loading. Yep, this is just the 2nd outing with it and just the 4th flight, I believe, so I still have some tuning to do. Do to the lack of power and the relatively short flights I'd say the gearing is not optimal for this plane. I don't know why they didn't make this at least a 400mm wingspan as I think that would have helped with the slow flight capability and the handling. See you in the Air!

@@GroundControlRC I have a solution for your lubrication problem. I've been a mountain bike rider since the late 1990s, and we have to deal with dirt all of the time. So I use FINISH LINE dry chain lube. It goes on wet and then dries to a waxy form that does not collect dust. Has Teflon in it to make it more slick too. There are several brands but I like that one best. Find it at just about all bike shops. I use it on all my motors and gear drives. You never want bare metal to metal contact. As far as gearing goes, the P-40 has a 42 tooth bull gear and the others have 40. Not sure but the plane's prop may also have slightly greater pitch, but that could be an illusion. I wonder if you just got a bum motor or receiver? I looked at some other vids and it seems to be doing a bit better in climb.
@GroundControlRC3 жыл бұрын
@@Doggeslife It could definitely be a weak motor or a gearbox that just doesn't mess too well with the gears. It wouldn't be the 1st time and I'm sure it won't be the last.
@dumbitdownson12573 жыл бұрын
@@GroundControlRC no liquid lubes. Cheapest option, if you can reach the gears, is using a pencil lead along the gears. The graphite is a good friction reducer for plastics.

Hi Steve! No, I tried many channels to see if anything would work with changing the gyro modes. I have since updated the firmware on my TX16 so maybe I'll give it another shot. It appears someone has created a LUA Script that does change the Gyro Mode. Here is a link to the RCGroups Discussion: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3904769-Xk-a220-p-40/page36 I hope that helps.

Why is it that so many of the 400mm warbirds become twitchy (appear tail heavy) when stability modes are turned off?
@GroundControlRC3 жыл бұрын
Hi James! I would say at least half of the Micro Planes I've reviewed the past few months have been tail heavy right out of the box. The gyro can compensate for that tail heavy condition pretty well but when the gyro is turned off you really get to see how well or poorly the plane is balanced. It certainly makes it interesting trying to fly a very tail heavy plane ;-) See you in the Air!
