I once glued and taped something like 5 of those bottle together for one monster 10 liter water rocket. I decide to test the thing with my 10 year old little brother (it was maybe 15 years ago) on our backyard. I was pressurizing the thing up to 8 bars with bicycle pump and maybe 4 meters long hose when it exploded around 5.5 bars. We both thought that it was the greatest thing ever but my mom was super angry since it was stupidly loud :D

What Is Islam? Islam is not just another religion. It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham. Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God. It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone. It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine. The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as: { “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4) Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus. Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him

This video reminds me of the times I made potato cannons 'sing' by filling the chamber with a rich butane/air mixture, keeping the barrel empty, then hitting the ignition. The one that made the coolest sound was the straight-pipe cannon measuring about 4" dia x 72" long. Too much fuel in the mix = slow burn = loud, twangy, bassy howling.

A couple of months ago I watched this video knowing literally nothing about rockets. like, absolutely nothing. But, I thought this was the coolest thing and I was determined to create a rocket engine. Soon enough, that goal changed into creating a full on rocket, and to get it into space. I started researching straight away, and I found another one of your videos on the hybrid rocket engine. I immediately started working on it, and It actually worked! Something you should know about me is that I never, and I mean NEVER finish projects. I always start them, but move on to something else. So for me to build a working rocket engine, that’s a huge achievement. I started doing more research, and I started looking at liquid fueled rocket engines. I started learning about things like the turbines, oxidizers, fuel pumps, injectors, over/under expansion, and a lot more. I am now currently working on a liquid fueled rocket engine, and it’s going great! I owe it all to u. My goal right now is to start my own rocket company, like SpaceX. I know it sounds crazy, but I’m working at it. It’s weird to think that all of this never would’ve happened if you didn’t make this video, so I just want to thank you for making my dreams come true.

The reason it burn faster when at the back of the botle is because the fire starts all the way back in the pvc pipe, the air fuel mixture is accelerated into the botle at speed before full ignition, causing turbulence. (Similar to how a diesel engine with a precombustion chamber works)

@NightHawkInLight my name is Gonzalo, I actually used one of your rocket launcher mortar videos and used it for a project for my engineering class back in high school. Best believe we got an A so I thank you. Just know we could bring it to school but not fire it obviously. We had recorded a video and shocked the class in awe with a frozen frame where it looks like a bright yellow Christmas tree like fire was coming out the end of the launcher. My engineering partner and I decided to visually advertise it as a rocket launcher from the shoulder rather than a mortar. We wanted to add a strap but that never happened which is okay because It was still awesome enough shooting it without the strap on the shoulder with its military green color and red button from the barbecue igniter we bought from the internet. In investing extra time even after the project back in high school I wanted to improve it and make it more powerful and did a lot of tests. I have tried different isopropyl alcohol percentages and the highest I found was around 70+%. I noticed the higher the percentage was the easier it was to set it off. I slowly perfected a method to introduce the vapors of the liquid and I also tried different bottles, smoother ones.. I want to one day maybe add fins with the limited space I had, perhaps make a fin mechanism inspired by ballistic missiles and rockets shot from different military rocket launchers like the famous RPG or the AT4. I found the best results for the "bottle rockets" is to get the biggest one that can fit in the launcher with a smooth outside layer with no ridges for hand grip for less drag and the static short circuit as back in the bottle as possible had best results. Now because of your launcher back in that video, its been pretty slow right now but I'm trying to develop an actual air-soft rocket launcher that is simulates a real one but still being safe enough for the sport. I found a void for that market because all the launchers for sale at the moment use basically a small nerf football that or a clump of bb's flying into one spot. So i have come up with a couple designs in theory that should work. I don't care who patents or gets it on the market first. The air-soft sport deserves better simulation and the launchers today are not very good. In regards to this I had called some of my old engineering class friends to help me on the project as well in an effort to create something feasible, some of the ideas seemed promising and some new ignition ideas that would function from the inside of a bottle rocket or eventually an air-soft rocket using the one we had created back in high school as a base to demo or showcase where or how our different ideas would be applied. I love rocketry and explosions and to be honest you were a big influencer of that when i first saw that video, from a science loving perspective obviously but I wont lie i'm kind of a pyro-maniac. Thank you for the videos you make they are very cool and keep doing what your doing. Yours truly - some guy who got an A+ using one of your mortar video tutorials. Much love

The ignition point being at the very end of the bottle and the highly vigorous ignition shows precisely why gun barrels work so well and why bullet casings are designed the way they are with their primers.

That is really cool! I like seeing how the flame burns. I got the ideal of demonstrating how a pulse jet works with clear plastic like that. Of course it wouldn't run long before melt down but you could get some footage for a second that shows how the flame works and the controlled explosion keeps the engine running. That would be great.
@celanis71644 жыл бұрын
The amount of energy inside the rocket is what matters. So a pressurized or larger rocket would have the potential of flying further. A heavy lift vehicle would actually prefer to have a stronger burn off the pad with a more consistent burn afterwards. But for small bottles it hardly matters. I would go for the stable burn any day because less chance to RUD. Additional idea: A small bottle with the nozzle glued inside the nozzle of a larger bottle, with the bottom cut out of the small bottle. Ignition point at nozzle of smaller bottle - the part that would warm up is actually cooled by the fuel on the other side inside the larger bottle - so the rocket might wear less. Just a thought and potential experiment. If launching vertically, you could even have a small bath of water in the larger bottle around the nozzle of the smaller bottle as a heatsink. Be safe. Rapid exploding gasses can be crazy dangerous, and you don't seem to wear much protection but some glasses. You might want to consider doing some of these larger tests in open ground with a bit more distance and less objects that can harm you. Also try sticking some red wire to the plug or tether it so it doesn't get lost every flight :p Awesome footage! :D

The world is more fun to be in when we get shown how to do things like this! One thing about the flame propagation is that (I think) it is starting at the torch not the tube opening and hence is pushing the mixture down the white tube. When the flame exits is it a) moving towards the open end; b) expanding in a pop. Could you film more tests putting the spark inside the bottle just for fun and thoroughness. I'd also love to see different payloads on the top of your rockets like strobing LEDs, a teddy bear, parachutes, Tinkerbell, St John the Gawper (patron saint of flying). Most of all, keep on doing this wonderful stuff.

You can tape aluminum foil along the sides of the bottle and bring them close to the nozzle then discharge some big capacitors to create the spark for ignition.

Loved the presentation,but I think if you install a good ground wire to the pipe at the input end,this would give the energy a direction of flow as the magnet travels down the pipe in the opposite direction.It must be generating some energy it just needs to be directed. Just a thought.

6:49 - the reason you see the flame rotate is because after the plug exits the bottle, the bottle jumps upwards and the air flowing in through the intake tube doesn't flow straight anymore but is tilted towards the bottom of the bottle which causes the whole content of the bottle to swirl. It's definitely not the gas temperature difference - that would be a very slow process and there just isn't enough time for that to have noticeable effect.

To adapt it to the launcher you could cap the end of the PVC pipe and put holes close to where the bottle "nozzle" would be, it would achieve the goal of placing the ignition point closer to the nozzle but has the downside of requiring a drill or a method to put holes on the PVC pipe for the end user

LOVE the videos! Please keep them coming 🙏. Just a thought, in my younger years I experimented with rockets of varied fuels and discovered early on that a stungun makes a efficient and reliable ignition source. Now you can get cheaper electric ignitors for barbeque grills. I attached wires to the contacts with RTV silicon to insulate everything and routed small wires from inside the combustion chamber (obviously). You could wire the launch pipe where the opening of the bottle rests instead of using the torch igniter. Anyways, thank you for the highly entertaining and educational videos.
