I feel like Stelena was too high school in a lot of ways. They were each other's first love and while it was sweet, it wasn't meant to be. Elena ended up falling for Damon. I liked that Steroline was unexpected and yet expected. Those two have a mature love perfect for adulthood. Stelena outgrew each other but Steroline grew into each other. This is why it's a slow burn so when they do get together, they're ready for each other.

when people ask me why i ship steroline the most, i will direct them to this beautiful video :) - steroline is what a normal, healthy, developed relationship should look like. it wasn’t that “love at first sight” crap. they started out as friends, knew each other for years, had relationships with other people they knew, realised it didn’t work, became best friends, confided in each other, trusted each other, was there for one another, made each other laugh, cry, smile, had some small arguments they overcame TOGETHER and eventually fell madly in love. delena was toxic. the arguments they had ended in having sex, not talking, yelling, killing etc. stefan and caroline are the definition of love. why didn’t they get the happy ending they deserved...?

I honestly like Steroline more than any other couple. I feel that every couple has some drawbacks including Delena. But Steroline was pure. I mean, some say that they are forced or rushed. But I personally feel that Caroline is the only one who understands Stefan best, a lot more than Elena. She has been always his best friend and she has literally supported him so much. Best friends turned into lovers. I don't find that they are rushed or anything. It's sad that they did not get happy ending coz they deserve it most. Stefan saving Caroline and helping control her vampirism are just two of many reasons for why I love Stefan. Damon attempted to kill her just before that, too. It blows my mind how often Damon tried to kill Elena's loved ones. The way Stefan cared for Elena's friends was a big reason for why I was a massive Stelena fan. (Not anymore.) I also loved the scene when Stefan set up the trio's slumber party the night Caroline was kidnapped and tortured. I loved Stelena and I loved Steroline. Both VERY different, but still great. I think Stelena was one of the most passionate relationships on the show (Yes, more so than Delena in many ways. I go back and watch so many clips. I'm so impressed with the chemistry Nina and Paul created for Stelena. Great actors!!) and I LOVE the buildup to Steroline. (I fell in love with their friendship way before I even thought about shipping them. I think that's what made their relationship so exciting for me. It was seriously unexpected, and I liked where it was headed!) Two of my fav TVD relationships

o.o Didn't Stefan try killing Elena TWICE? And spent time killing all of her ancestors as shown in flashbacks? Secondly Damon has only killed Jeremy but he came back so I don't know what you mean by "how often Damon's tried to kill Elena's loved ones" when he only ever temporarily killed Jeremy which happened seasons ago and all of the characters have forgiven him for it. Stefan treated Caroline like shit in both seasons 6 and 8 so he wasn't perfect either....This video has nothing to do with Delena or Stelena....It's a Steroline video and ya'll are still salty because Elena fell out of love with the possessive ripper who did not accept her as she was compared to Damon who loved her as both human and vampire....And Stelena isn't even considered passionate....Neither Dobrev or Wesley could pull the type of chemistry that Nian did which is why Nian won all of the awards for chemistry compared to Stelena making lists for "most boring TV couples" and Stefan as one of the most forgettable lead characters. Damon trumps Stefan as a character in MANY ways just as Delena trumps Stelena in MANY ways their journey is one of the best seen on TV....Stelena doesn't have one. Stay pressed about it. 💀

This relationship was so beautiful. The build up was so much better than any other ship in the series. Both Stefan and Caroline really understood each other. They went from best friends to lovers and then soulmates. And they both had each other’s backs no matter what. Caroline was the only true friend Stefan had. And she stuck behind him for all his mistakes. They were a match made in heaven. It was sad that Stefan had to die. Wish the writers made them into a couple sooner.

What build up? :D I understand that friendships can change into romantic ones, but every single show does this, and in this case it wasn’t necessary. Once Lexi died, Stefan and Caroline became extremely close friends during seasons 2-5. During that time, Stefan was obsessed with Elena and Caroline dated Tyler and flirted with Klaus. Tyler and Caroline worked very well together, but it seemed the show decided in season 5 that since Elena was now paired with Damon, Stefan had to have a love interest as well. So they took this amazing friendship between Stefan and Caroline, which had literally never been shown to be romantic in any way once he got with Elena in season 1, and started trying to force them together. Since the Originals left at the end of season 4 just as Elena chose Damon, Lexi just happens to suddenly imply to Stefan in the season 4 finale that he and Caroline “were more than just friends” but also said that Stefan had a thing for blondes and had replaced her, his best friend, with another blonde best friend in Caroline. Since Klaus was leaving, they wanted to tease the Klaroline shippers and had him proclaim he would be her last love and let’s Tyler come home. This is when things start getting really forced. They literally dismantle and throw Tyler and Caroline’s relationship out of the window and write him out of most of season five so he can seek revenge on Klaus. When Stefan loses his memories, he suddenly starts thinking Caroline is hot but he still only trusts her as a friend. Stefan literally dates Katherine in season 5 before she dies and Caroline sleeps with Klaus. She does help Stefan with the travelers but she does that as a friend. They never act romantic during any of this as well. Jump to season 6 and suddenly Caroline loves the guy. Even though he’s been a crap friend, she loves him romantically for some reason. This is the period when she and Enzo had great chemistry and I really enjoyed their flirtatious banter and his “Hello Gorgeous” every time he saw her. He could have been the new bad guy that she could tame and develop feelings for and they even showed Enzo being protective of her when Stefan made her cry and showed he wanted to sleep with her, but wanted to wait until she was herself again while her humanity was turned off. This was all more actual romantic build up than any we got from Stefan during this time. Since they had destroyed her and Tyler’s relationship and Klaus was gone. The minute she and Enzo get close, they rip them apart and the rest of the season is literally filled with people telling them, most often to Stefan, that they should be together. Stefan fights it and shows no interest until of all times, her mother’s funeral? He was wishy washy the whole season about her as a romantic relationship but it seemed since Nina was leaving the show and Damon was off the table for any future romances, they needed their other male lead to have one and thus Stefan suddenly changes his mind and he and Caroline get together. It barely even works once their together bc season seven included the time jumps, the twins, and Stefan leaving her for three years. There is no epic love story to watch unfold and grow. We do get tons of backstory and screen time with Valerie and Stefan growing closer. It may not be a popular opinion, but Valerie was a much better fit for Stefan in so many ways at this point. I don’t see how Caroline would still love him after he dated her for a hot minute and then disappeared for three years while she lived day together day with Alaric raising twins together. I’m not saying she should have been with Alaric bc that was weird, but still being super in love with Stefan at this point seemed frivolous. Unfortunately, they have Caroline forgive Stefan and get back together with him in the season 7 finale and write Valerie off the show and into the ether, only to be referenced one more time in passing after spending a WHOLE season growing closer to Stefan. Season 8 does their relationship a disservice again bc Stefan leaves her to save Damon and protect her children while serving Cade, and then has evil Stefan rip into her constantly about how she’s a desperate has been and she’s not Elena basically. Once Stefan kills Enzo and is human again, he even wants to die and run away to “atone” for his many sins. He NEVER would have done this if it had been Elena. Caroline literally has to beg and guilt him into staying with her bc he’s so determined to leave and play the martyr. Just to be sure no one is in the way for the end, they unceremoniously murder Tyler and Caroline honestly acts like she could care less and they never meant anything to one another. Which was not like her at all. They then force Caroline to have a rushed and fake wedding for the sole purpose of luring Katherine out and the same night as they are married, they have Stefan choose saving Elena and Damon over his new wife. I know he wanted to save Damon but he also wanted to still die to appease his own guilt and chooses death over finding a way to stay with Caroline. They had zero chemistry and they should have remained friends. SORRY for this long ass comment, but I hope you will read it :D

Agreed, it was the best! I loved them since the start, but I definitely saw the potential since s2. Their trust and friendship just got stronger, until they started hinting at little romantic moments in s4, and especially s5. Then s6 happened and they took their sweet ass time - but finally the ship sailed! It was such a great slow burn and so beautiful to watch. One of the best on tv for sure. 🥰
