Wow, this is really great, this explanation and you have really helped us with this, because now we can also enter things that were not yet in xlights, because we are really beginners, so we still have to learn everything, but we also want to do this in the Netherlands, so that people here can also enjoy it. Thank you very much.😃

Thanks for all the info you provide Jeff. Especially to those who are new to the hobby. Finally got my lights ordered and should arrive within the next 10-14 days. Also bit the bullet and ordered the F16 instead of the F4. I don't think I will ever need that many channels but I now have the option. Now I just need to complete my sequences. Thanks again!

Great tutorial, as usual! I would like to see a video on how you create your videos. What camera you use, your lighting, your editing tools, etc. That would be very interesting indeed.
@CanispaterChristmas4 жыл бұрын
Nothing magic really, but I've spent more money on the audio (good mic and recorder). I use a Sony camcorder and Adobe Premiere/Audition for editing. For lighting, I use a couple of really big CFLs for photography inside paper Chinese lanterns. Most of the stuff is listed on my Amazon page.

Nice video jeff !!! I was wondering , I seen a couple of your Christmas shows. I would like to buy some of the music you are using on your shows in particular the dubstep genre. Where did you buy yours.

As a new person and not a computer background person have you made a video of making controllers?
@CanispaterChristmas4 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean. I don't make controllers, I purchase them from vendors.

Hi Jeff. When running the xLights custom model video option, does it matter which port you connect the prop to? I'm using the F16V3.
@CanispaterChristmas3 жыл бұрын
No, just make sure the port is configured for an adequate number of pixels. You'll need to enter the start channel for the port into xLights (default is 1, but you can change it to whatever yours is).

I’m trying to do a custom model in XLights with a Boscoyo mini tree, that includes the star. Do I model it in XLights and picture it while flat? Or when it’s assembled? Thank you!
@CanispaterChristmas3 жыл бұрын
Whatever is best for your display. I did mine separately and grouped each tree and star so you have flexibility - can either put the pattern on the group or the individual parts.

I have a model with 200 LEDs, but when I map them, even if I set 200, only 170 pixels will light up showing the mapping sequence... Am I missing something?
@CanispaterChristmas3 жыл бұрын
Allocate another universe to the controller. 170 pixels is 510 channels. Universes are 512 per spec (or 510 if you set them that way). 200 pixels is 600 channels so you need at least 2 universes.
@led_man3 жыл бұрын
@@CanispaterChristmas I was using DDP protocol, and I couldn’t select more than 1 universe. Switched to E1.31 and selected 2 universes. It worked. Thanks!

Ok so this is a little off topic but how or what do i set an arduino to inside of x lights so that it will see it and function correctly.
@CanispaterChristmas4 жыл бұрын
There isn't a setting for an Arduino specifically. If it's running some software that turns it into a controller, then that may be there.

Can you record the test pattern say on your phone and email it to yourself and use that

Sure. Anything that shoots video, but I'd recommend putting the phone on something like a table/chair to hold it steady while you're filming.

Is it possible to map 400 pixels displayed on a real tree?
@CanispaterChristmas4 жыл бұрын
You might be able to do it with a video of the test pattern I show in the video after this one. You will probably want pixels with a diffuser so you can see them better - normal bullets or flat bullets are directional points of light so the ones facing the back will be hard to see.
