You can use the pyramid icon in 3d to adjust the size of the dormer as well, even the height. Its a cool feature to learn, saves a lot of clicking and guessing!

Wouldn't you not want a flat roof to be part of the main Gable because most flat roofs are roll roofing and not laminated shingles?

I think the flat roof eave height is From "0", or the defined datum height of the main roof, so it's 7' above the bottom of the main roof, but less than that from the main roof slope. We see lots of these on log homes in colorado. As you said, you have to "play" with the eave height and position to get the desired actual eave height.

Interesting Tom - thanks for chiming in! I've also discussed this with a contractor that thinks that the 5' distance is from the edge of the flat dormer roof and the main roof slope if you hung a string from the edge and measured that distance to the roof plane straight down, if that makes sense? Let me know what you think!

If you are trying to add it to the sketch, I am not sure that is what you are looking for. I would suggest you find the appropriate skylight (type and size) and put it on to the estimate under the roof portion.
