Fun fact while the beams themselves don't have any heat. If channeled hard enough on impact the beams can create a bit of heat on the surface it hit which is why in the movies you see scrotch marks but no actual flames due to the beams not having any heat to begin with.

The comics made this statement years ago. Cyclops’ power is energy manipulation like his two brothers. The differences between the three are degrees of control and where the power manifests. Scott and Alex (Havok) absorb cosmic energy and then redirect it. The older brother, Gabriel, can actually manipulate energy to make force fields and fly and such.

I've personally never liked the "punch dimension eye blasts" power. It's such an odd and nonsensical power to have and it makes him seem less cool then he actually is. Like, why can't he just have laser beams, it's a lot more simpler and just as much, if not more useful than optic blasts. It also makes his visor/glasses more practical because laser beams have more of an effect and cause a lot more damage than a punch blast. But nah, let's give him eye portals to the "Punch Dimension". Should Wolverine's claws be portals to the Claw Dimension?! Should Angel's wings be portals to the Wing Dimension?!

Powers usually develop either during puberty or in response to an extremely stressful experience. There are some rare exceptions though. For Scott, his power activated when the parachute he shared with his brother caught fire as the plane they were on with their parents was burning. He used his power to slow their fall but sustained a traumatic brain injury that prevents him from controlling his power.

It has no heat of its own. It's concussive energy. It can pulverize. But can't inherently burn. Friction from the blast can cause heat as a side effect. That can cause scorching. But it's just a side effect.
