However, “two competitors stand on a floating log and each tries to make the other fall off. They may spin the log, rock it up and down, *or* *splash* *water* *at* *their* *opponent* , but may not touch their opponent and must keep one foot in contact with the log at all times. The birler who wins the best of five rolls wins the match.” So it is allowed in the rules to do what he did.

Also I said this already- it may be legal but it still feels like an underhanded move like it may not be in the spirit of the game. It's trying to test your ability to balance on the log and if you have to distract your opponent by splashing water on their face, it takes away from the purpose of the game. It's like a running race where you're allowed to kick your opponent's shin or trip them. Yes, it's allowed and technically the only goal is to reach the finish line first but if you have to trip your opponent to win maybe you don't deserve to?

The man who won also has a stout, "spread-out-wide" frame with thick legs. And the taller guy has much skinnier legs and a thin torso. The winner likely has greater skill at balancing, but the other guy is at a clear competitive disadvantage.
