Keith - good review. Nice playing on Thoughts of Love....a difficult piece.

You do a nice job of trombone companions. Could l you do a demo of a King 3B+ vs. a Bach 36 both straight horns please Rico

I'm using a Yamaha YSL-448G Large Bore Tenor Trombone. It's ultra tight. Do you think this would be a great fit? I'm debating between this and the B.A.C San Francisco.

How about a demo on a Getzen 547 capri trombone. Seems like a nice intermediate trombone. Thanks, love your demo's

Is it possible you do some reviews of some more cheaper trombone models?
@Salad11454 жыл бұрын
What would you say would be some differences between the XO 1236L-T and the XO 1236L-O. I'm considering buying the horn but I don't know which model to get.

Thanks for the comment! The big difference between these two models is of course the valves. When it comes to axial-flow vs. standard rotors it is very dependent on the player. If you are someone who plays a lot and is looking for an instrument with a broad sound, weight to its response and can take a lot of air then the axial-flow may be the way to go. If you are looking for an instrument that is more nimble in its response and timbre, and more efficient with its blow, the rotor might be a safer bet. If you like feel free to shoot me a message at tromboneshop@schmittmusic.com; I would be happy to have a more in-depth conversation regarding your current instrument setup and current and future playing needs...

What microphone do you use for the videos? The reviews sound great, Your reviews are the best I've found on KZbin. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for watching! In this video I believe I was using a Shure MV5 microphone, going directly into my iPhone. We have recently upgraded our system and we are now using an AKG C214 condenser mic with a Lumix HDR camera, recording with OBS and editing in Adobe Premier. I am still learning how to use it all but I have been happy with the upgrade thus far...

How do you change lead pipes? Mine seems stuck.
@SchmittMusicTromboneShop3 жыл бұрын
Assuming your horn is an XO there is a collar on the mouthpiece receiver that should unscrew, which should then allow the leadpipe to be pulled out; most other makers have the leadpipe thread directly into the receiver. In either case leadpipes tend to get stuck regularly (the tight fit combined with the moisture leads to oxidation/corrosion); at that point the best choice is to take it to a repair tech, who typically can pull it quickly...

I listen to a lot of your demos. You are a very good player. However on this demo you seemed to miss quite a few notes compared to your other demo's. I'm thinking it is the horn. That maybe it doesn't slot as good as some other brands. I would really like to see you demo the intermediate trombones. Much more affordable for students. Thanks.

Thank you for the comment! To be fair I believe I was having a bit of an off day when I was playing this horn; I actually like it overall but I do think it takes a certain approach. As far as intermediate trombones I have been trying to include more of them in my reviews, including Jupiter's most popular intermediate large bore tenor, the JTB1150F (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHOQi4iLdrCnars); I will continue to try to do a range of instruments, mouthpieces, accessories, etc. for the entire breadth of the community. Thanks!

Hey I apologize if I sounded harsh. It was not my intent. You are a very good player. That's a difficult solo. I love it every time you do a demo. I would still like to see you demo the Conn 52hl and the getzen capri 547. The pro horns are so expensive. Especially for a student that may not intend to play professionally or a old guy like me that doesn't play that much. The pro horns are a huge investment. Thanks so much!

I know this video is pretty old but from my experience, it could be the counter weight, choking the sound, and that messes up the response of the horn sometimes.
