That’s where I first saw her too! The Netflix reboot of The Babysitter’s Club was really good! And I actually really loved Xochitl’s version of Dawn more than other versions I had seen and read about in the past! Not only because she was Latina this time around (instead of blonde haired/blue eyed like Stacey), but also because of how she was portrayed as the chill and empathetic BFF towards the other girls (like the times she had heart to hearts with Kristy and Mary Anne)! Oh yeah and the episodes where she protested at Camp Moosehead were classic!

Normally I don’t watch or listen to the Lautner’s podcast, but I had to tune in because of Xochitl Gomez! It’s been amazing to see how much this young lady has already accomplished in the last few years! From playing the first Latina version of Dawn Schafer in the Babysitters Club reboot, to making her MCU debut as America Chavez in the Multiverse of Madness, to now being a Dancing With the Stars champion! This girl has such a charismatic and free spirited personality that makes you wish that she was your daughter, your sister, your cousin, your BFF, or even your girlfriend! Not to mention, Xochitl replied to me on Instagram nine times while she competed on the show with Val! I’d like to see the Lautners interview other BSC girls like Momona Tamada (who she mentioned), Malia Baker, or Shay Rudolph (who has some podcast experience)! Oh yeah and speaking of McKenna Grace she wrote a song about Xochitl recently called Natalie, perhaps you could also ask her to be a guest as well! I think OG Robert Rodriguez fans like me are still waiting to see if Lavagirl will reunite with Sharkboy on the Squeeze sometime! I’ve been a Xochitl fan since she got cast in BSC, and I remember all the negative comments. Sucks she had to go through that as well as the America negativity. To know that she had all these death threats, I was like she’s just a kid who played a kickass role and did it well. It saddens me that she went through that because I am a fan of hers. She was literally making history in DWTS along with Rylee being the youngest. She was the youngest celebrity partner and Rylee was the youngest pro. AND NOTHING IS WRONG WITH BEING THE YOUNGEST AT ANYTHING BECAUSE YOU ARE BASICALLY KICKING ASS AND TAKING NAMES.

I was concerned about that too. Not in a judgmental way on her part, just worrisome. It's great to have mentors but both of her closest support systems are two older men. I think it's common in circumstances where young people in her position (traveling, working, becoming famous) have trouble maintaining and making friends their age which can be really isolating. I just worry about power dynamics and intentions.

It’s weird and even more uncomfortable that Mr. Lautner thought this was normal and funny. The cycle of abuse in Hollywood will continue to persist unless attention is drawn to the toxic power dynamics children and young people are exposed to.
