Can you help me on this: I'm trying to record dj set through 'record' port. On the other end is Zoom h1n recorder which gets the signal on the line in port. When one channel is going, everything is fine but when I'm making transition and two or more channels are playing simultaneously, I get crackling noise on the lows. I tried switching the cable and turning down gains but crackling is still there. Is there anything I'm missing out here, I'm out of options? Thank you in advance

Hi Sven Beats, Thanks for the message. It sounds like you are not leaving yourself enough headroom on the recording device. Please adjust the input level on the recording device and make sure that you leave yourself enough headroom for when the master mixer master bus runs a little hotter from the summed signals when mixing. Don't know how to explain the crackling, it doesn't come from the recorder the source is the mixer (the signal is distorted before it reaches the recorder). Is it possible I need some additional cables? I found on Google that attenuator may solve the problem? Thanks again

Hey Seven beats, I hooked an HN4 up to a 96 record out and was able to get a good result. I had to turn the input on the Zoom below 10. The Zoom indicates when it is clipping by the input 1/2 buttons will flash. If you are still clipping when you are turned all the way down. I would assume you are using XLR on the Zoom. Don't! This is for mic level only. Please make sure you are using the jack on the combi socket. The mic pre-amp simply can't handle anything line-level. Hopefully, that is it! Sorry, you're on the H1n There is only a 3.5mm input for external device hook up. But it is switchable between Mic and Line. Therefore, please make sure the socket is set to 'Line' in the H1n device settings! Thanks, Luke

@@xonedjofficial hey Luke, just wanted to update you on this. I didn't manage to make it work, it turned out I needed something between to control the volume, h1n was getting too strong signal. I ended up hooking a Pioneer djm 350 on rec out and using djm built in USB recording. That worked great. Anyway, thanks for trying to help 💜

Hey! For some reason I can not get any signal on the four main channels when using them as inputs with the mixer as an audio interface. The two return channels work tho, and also the master when activated. This has worked before, but not now. Is it because of Mac OS upgrade? Or how to fix it? I would like to record my sets in multitrack. Sending audio from ableton on the main channels and effects plus drum machine on return channels. Also, is it possible to mod the mixer so that the record ins are post fader and eq? Just dont understand the reason its put before, when is that convenient...? Hi Bendik, Thanks for the message, The Xone:96 was primarily designed with DJing and live performance in mind, and not so much for multi-track and studio. However, we do understand that some users are using it for such a tool, which is fine, but is not really built for this purpose. That is why you are personally finding gripes with it. FYI, the USB upstream on stereo channels 1-4 (USB 1-8), was designed for the implementation of DVS. Having the routing configured this way enables the DVS signal to go direct to a computer. For the issue you are experiencing, please ensure that the input source selector is set correctly on the said channel you are attempting to come back on. Also, in Ableton please ensure that all I/O is active in the audio preference setup window. @@xonedjofficial Thanks for the reply. Yes I understand. For your next high end mixer I dream of having to record multitrack exactly as it was performed (volum, eq, and filtering). It will be a thrill for every live act performing music on drum machines and synthesizers and I am sure a lot of people would buy that, because then producing a track out of stems from a live performance will be very easy and fun way to create new music. There is no other product doing this well and at the same time being a good performance mixer, so you would get a lot of customers I think. Have a good day, Bendik.

Hi, Thanks for the message, if you are getting a hot signal straight off the pre-amp. May we suggest recording off the Send channels or master on USB channels 9&10 or 11&12, that way you can control the overall level going into the DAW with level controls on the mixer. Kind Regards,

Hi Thad, The USB routing is fixed. USB 1&2 is only assigned to channel 1. If you want to route back to any other channel, you will need to select the desired USB stream. The down stream configuration is as follows. Hi Khalia, Thanks for the message. This really depends on many variables, so it’s hard to give you a direct answer as we don’t know what your full integration intent is here. I would probably say that if you want this product solely for the purpose of music production, there are better suited products available that are roughly within the same price range. Hi, I was trying to record my set with Audacity though a usb cable connecting my mac to the mixer. For whatever reason Audacity is only recording Channel 1 but no Channel 2. Even if I bring the volume from Channel 1 all the way down it's still being recorded. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Thanks for the overview. Can this be used for live performance with groove boxes, samplers, synths and the like? Are there any limitations in this regard? I am not a DJ but DJ mixers somehow seem more appealing to me that standard mixing consoles.

Yes you can. This mixer is great for live performance and hybrid setups. I would still recommend routing everything through ableton and then you can route individual ableton channels to any of the 6 channels on the 96. That way ableton can easily keep everything in time and on top of that you could even assign any of the controls in ableton to the many knobs/buttons on the 96 that are able to send/receive midi signals. You could also run all external hardware directly through the 96 and then set your drum machine or groove box to be the master clock. Like have a drum machine running on channel one as the master clock, an analog synth running on channel 2 of the 96 thats receiving the master clock signal from your drum machine etc etc. I freaking love this mixer so far. The sound is incredible

Hi, im an owner of this mixer and i would like to know if it could run ableton live 11 or 12 in session view in order to run samples on a per example channel 1 kicks, channel 2 snares and so on also the 2 first Chanel to use it as fx send? Hi, You can route audio to six stereo channels on the 96. These are the four main stereo channels and the two return channels. When connecting to Ableton, I can confirm that it is possible to return a combination of audio and FX return to all six stereo channels. Thanks, Luke

Hi RQVX, Thanks for the message. The main points for recording via USB would be to ensure that you have USB channel 11-12 assign to MST with the top panel MST/SEND2 switch. Next, ensure that you have the 96-soundcard selected as the audio device and software routing is set so USB channels 11-12. This should now be routing audio from the 96 to the software. If you are still having issue recording on Mac running OS 10.14 (Mojave) or higher. I’m just trying to record my DJ set on audacity and I’m running into a situation where sound from both tracks from channels 1 and 2 are both playing and will not fade using crossfader, channel fade or even gain. I have experimented with Channel assignment and have been unable to fix the problem. Is the xone 96 compatible with audacity or is there something else as far as software I should use? Please don’t say tractor.

Yea thats the latest version of traktor 2, but for Xone 96 support you need traktor 2.11.13 or higher. So 2.11.3 is better, but from 2.11.13 it's working as well.

Hi ibjrdion, Sorry for the late reply. The Xone:96 is Core-compliant on Mac OS. Simply hook it up to your MBP and it will work as a plug and play device. All you need to do then is set up the software. 96 will run on both TP2 & TP3. There are instructions listed on page 30 of the UG on how to do this. A pair of MXLR to FMXLR (balanced) will suffice just fine here. What grade/brand of cable/connector is up to you? But for this application, I would say the difference will be negligible. All the best, Luke

Hola, acabo de adquirir una Xone96 y tengo el siguiente problema… Cuando uso el Streamlabs OBS y toco los filtros de la mesa no hace ningún efecto en el sonido del Streamlabs pero si en la preescucha de los cascos incluso en el Traktor. Hello, Yes, it is possible to hook up to a computer via the USB-B socket on the rear of the QU mixer. This connection is capable of multi-track streaming to and from the mixer. When using a Mac this will work as a class compliant device, just plug and play. Hi Brian, Thanks for the message. The Xone:92 does not have a built-in interface and the 43C has just the one interface. So, to answer your question. Can someone at A&H please explain why the master FX insert is not audible on the USB out recording? Who in their right mind thought it would be a good idea to have the master FX insert be pre USB recording, while all the other send/returns are post USB recording? My RMX-1000 is basically useless now, unless I get a second laptop with an extra audio interface and take the REC OUT from the Xone 96 to that with a cable. I really don't understand how these huge mistakes could be made for a mixer of this caliber and price tag.

Hello Dr Conflict, The USB sends 11&12 on the Xone:96 is a master bus send. The reason it was designed this way was to keep a clean feed on this bus from anything inserted on the master insert. Beside FX, these may also be devices such as limiters, or multiband EQ etc… It should also be noted that, inserting devices on the master bus of a premium analogue mixer may degrade the sonic transparency of the equipment. However, it is not the end of the world if you do want to route the record bus (which is post insert by default) via the 96 internal soundcard. This can be achieved by using an RCA cable as a jumper and run from the RCA record out to a spare line in socket on the four main stereo channels. You would then need to route the to the sound card and software via the corresponding USB channels and connector switching. Kind regards,

Hi Teo, Thanks for the message, Xone:96’s soundcard is Core Audio compliant on Mac OS. This means that no driver is required, and it will run as a plug and play device with Apple’s hardware. 96 was launch post OS12.10, so our test program would not have required testing this legacy OS. With that said, we have had Zero reports of 96 not working with any particular OS. And should simply work as a compliant device. I hope this helps! Best regards, Luke

You can send MIDI data through the 96. Under MIDI devices you will see Xone:96 (Partner). Use this MIDI device to send clock from one computer to the other via the 96. We'll get SpinnZinn to make a vide on this topic asap!

Hi B Burger. Thanks for the message. If you require both soundcards to manage I/O for a singular program, then you will need to create an aggregate device. FYI, the Xone:96 soundcards stereo sends (1-8) route straight off the mixer’s input connectors. The signal is not processed by the mixer whatsoever. It was designed this way for the use of DVS. It’s not totally ideal for multi-track recording. Though, if you were to use it for this type of application. The gain structure must be managed on the connecting outboard device. The final two sends (9-12) work off the mixer’s output buses Send 1 & send 2 or master. These signals will be processed by the mixer’s controls I hope this helps! Kind regards, Luke

I have only one doubt. If I wanted to use the two channels (A and B) on the left side of mixer with external synths (with RTN A and RTN B input), I would have the possibility, through the internal sound card of the mixer, to record these two channels separately on DAW? In the manual it's said that the channels of the card 9/10 and 11/12 can be used with Send 1 and Send 2 but to me it's not clear what they mean. Thanks.

Hi Davelse, Sorry for the late reply. Xone:96 has two send outputs which six of the input cannels can be assigned to. These sends will also (simultaneously) route to USB channels 9-10 &11-12 (From the mixer). Though, you need to make sure USB 11-12 is assigned to SEND2 with the top panel switch. The idea to then route signals from return inputs A&B would be to assign one channel to send 1 and the other to send 2 (A to 1 B to 2, would be the logical approach). Next, simply route USB channels 9-10 (send 1) to one stereo track in the DAW and channels 11-12 (send 2) to a second track. This will enable you to capture both return A&B inputs separately. Using the two sends (Send 1 -> Ch.A and Send 2 -> Ch.B) obviously I will no longer be able to use them as sends for effects on other channels. Ok, do you think it makes sense to use the two headphone outputs to send the signal to the two FX (Phone 1 -> FX1 and Phone 2 -> FX2)? The output signal from the two FX would then return to input on channels C and D. At the same time I would split the signal out from FX to two inputs on my sound card to record. Hi Rolle Lagrange, Thanks for the message. The USB record bus will include all channels exempt the master insert and both mic inputs (which are on a clean-feed by default). Otherwise, all inputs that are routing to the main mix bus will be routed to the USB record bus. FYI, there are internal jumpers to deactivate the mic clean-feed. I found my 96 level light was a bit unbalanced, and the left channel was a little stronger than the right channel. If recording from build-in interfacer to Traktor, Traktor's record level light is also unbalanced, how to solve it.

Hi Mark, Typically, with stereo recorded audio you may find one side to the stereo image has more information, therefore, will show a higher meter level. It does not record the final mix, though. Beautiful mixer indeed. It sounds amazing. But why on earth does it not record the insert channel on the master track? The price is high. Being both the best dj mixer around and a good soundcard it seemed worth it. But now I need to use an external soundcard in addition to the xone96, to be able to rec the full set, and that was a big drawback. Inserts for fx is not that weird. I really love it, dont get me wrong. But I cant really understand the technical choice made, not including the final mix that runs out of the mixer. To me its a bit strange. And it took me a set or two in which the recording was lacking the inserts, before I discovered it. No info, heads up on the add, specs, manual or in this video.

Hi, Thanks for the message. The Master insert is not included in the MST USB send, as typically master inserts devices would be things like graphic equalisers or limiters. Admittedly it might have been a slight oversight on our part, to not recognise that most users would use this feature for FX processing. However, we would like to point out that it is possible to record the insert via the RCA record output. Furthermore, if you have the a ‘Line’ socket available on any of the four stereo inputs. You can use an RCA cable from the record out to the line in and then route the corresponding USB channels into the software. Doing away with the need of deploying a third-party interface. But it has so many superb features also as an interface that the ability to record the final, final master would have been brilliant. Nevertheless, I have used the "hack" you suggested and that works fine of course, to connect the rec out, into one of the line in channels, for final master usb record. And it has become one of my quick go to device to make final external gear aux send/insert adjustments to mixes, since the mixer preamp sounds so damn good. With this ability this mixer to me is truly the perfect swiss army knife for both quick all in one allround solutions for dj´ing (vinyl, daw, digital, streaming) and diy home recording.

What do you mean, how is it not working? Ive been using my 96 this way without problem. Did you try pressing the USB 11/12 MST/SEND2 button? You want it to be pressed so its down if you are using the send 2 knob for return fx. If you dont have that button pressed then 11/12 is just going to be sending a master signal, like if you wanted to use 11/12 to record your set using traktors mix recorder. In that case you leave the button up and set traktors fx send input to 11/12 and then under the mix recorder tab you set the source to "FX Send"

Hello Rasmus, Yes, Alex was meant to say Sends 1&2, but most who have used a 92, such as yourself, will know that this is exactly the same as the 92 AUX. USB sends 11 & 12(from mixer) can either route Send 2 or the master feed. There is a switch below the master level controls to configure this. Having this set to master will enable you can capture a recording of everything that is running through the mixer, including the FX returns. Kind regards, Luke

Hi Bradus, Thanks for the message. The Xone:92 does not have a built -in soundcard. If you solely want to use the laptop for playback from a media player or internet site or any software sending a singular stereo feed. It’s possible to use the computer internal soundcard. Providing that the Laptop has a stereo/headphone out port? You can then get yourself a 3.5mm jack to RCA cable and this will connect to any line in socket on any of the four-stereo channel on the mixer. If your intention id to use the laptop for play back form DJ/music production software, whereby, you want more than one stereo feed sent for mixing out the box. Hi Mateo, Yes, you can solely use a PC as a playback device running third-party DJ software to give you virtual decks. There is no need for any additional equipment. +Igor Guinart, there is a simple work around for this situation. Simply connect an RCA cable from the 96's record out to any of the 4 line level inputs you're not using, then set your software to record on that input.

Hi Matteo, Thanks for the follow-up. If you are connected to any of the four main stereo inputs on 96, you can route directly off the RCA input connector to USB. However, you must ensure that the routing switches have been configured correctly next to the socket. You will notice four white switches labelled LN: PH. If you are running a line-level device into Stereo 1, then the switch for this channel must be on LN for line input. The USB channel for Stereo 1 is USB 1&2. It is these channels that must be routed into the software. Hi Emiliano, Thanks for the message. Traktor seems to only have a singular stereo send (input) and return (output) for setting up FX routing with an external device. This is accessible in both the input and output (‘external mode’) routing options. 96 is capable of routing Sends 1&2 and return A&B via USB. This can be achieved with any software that has the routing capabilities. The mixer routing for this is as follows: Send 1 = USB 9/10 (upstream) Send 2 = USB 11/12 (upstream) Return A = USB 9/10 (downstream) Return B = USB 11/12 (downstream) For more info on the software side of things, please contact NI support. Hi Tom, Thanks for the message. Impossible no, but can be clunky depending on the platform you are using and access you have to the 96 I/O. A workaround for recording with Audacity on 96 would be to use stereo input one as your record bus send. this will only work so long as you are not using channel 1 'line' input for anything. The idea would be to connect from the RCA record output, to channel 1 'line' in, then make sure the USB routing switch is set to 'LN'. The signal will then be sent directly to USB streams channels 1&2, which are the only two channels that seem to work in Audacity in certain situations. Finally, make sure channel 1 input selector is not set to LN with the fader up! As this would cause a feedback loop. Alternatively, you could use another number of freeware platforms, Reaper being one, which I personally know works well with 96 and can see and access the full I/O if the soundcard. I hope this helps and you manage to find a recording solution that works for you. Cheers, Luke

Hi Wanger, The short answer is yes to both. Xone:96 supports Apple’s CoreAudio/CoreMIDI framework so you do not need to install Device Drivers for use with macOS. This interface has been tested on and is compatible with macOS BigSur. Xone:96 is only supported on Intel-based Apple computers. Hi Marc, Sorry if our humour was misconstrued. But yes, you can absolutely DJ with a laptop and 96 alone. Though, you won’t have much tactile control. So, it all depends on your preference really. If you are happy to trigger any software control/playback with the computer keyboard and mouse, there’s nothing stopping you. If you want something more tactile for mixing, you may need to consider extended control, either with a MIDI controller or turntables (DVS?). Again, it all depends on your personal requirements. Had it now for a few months and although I do like some improvements, I don't really see why I couldn't have taken a 92 and saved some cash. I've been trying to connect the USB to a Macbook and use the laptop to capture the master/record signal (because I was hoping to stream audio using OBS) but somehow everything coming through are all the channels at once: so not just the master or just whatever channel is open, but litterally anything that is sent to the mixer (two CDJs in my case) just get sent to the USB output. No way of selecting a certain channel only in the drivers or via Audio Midi Setup... pretty annoying that there's no tool or software included to configure the i/o. So now I need to buy an extra app on top to make this expensive thing work for a pretty simple thing as basically adding recording through USB. Also, this mixer runs HOT. Really hot even after a few hours, that can't be good for the life expectancy of the parts, can it?

Hi, We are sorry to hear that you are having some difficulty. For some reason OBS studio does not give full access to Core-audio I/O, this is to do with the software and not the hardware. For further information as to why it works this way you will need to consult the developers. Most audio platforms will give you full access to I/O of the 96 Core-audio devices, and we have not had this reported about any other software. The Xone:96 is an analogue mixer with a heap of functionality in its modest frame. Compared to an equivalent digital mixer it has a LOT going on, and these components/devices produce inherent heat. We always knew this product would run warm, it was important that the performance area (top panel) was not affected by heat - because this is where you put your hands while performing. To prevent this we moved the heatsinking to the sides of the unit, dissipating the majority of heat through the side panels. We embossed the side panels with small ‘bumpers’ to ensure a minimal airgap was maintained if butting up against a CDJ etc. A crucial new design element for us was the use of a thinner gauge Aluminium top panel, allowing better heat dissipation than a ‘traditional’ steel panel. Most importantly all of this meets the very stringent product safety testing required for any pro audio device (UL&EN60065) and has been extensively tested in the field throughout the summer at festivals and gigs across the world. All components have been assessed and are well within their recommended temperature ratings ensuring the Xone 96 will remain an integral part of your DJ setup for years to come. Best regards, Luke

@@xonedjofficial don't get me wrong, I love the 96's layout and it performs great soundwise and all... but the heat DOES transmit to the top - and severely so actually. And I'm using it at home, in a hot and sweaty club where heat removal is even going to be worse I can't imagine components taking a beating. I've played in clubs that warm up to +40°C and the last thing you need is the mixer in front of you emitting additional heat like a radiator. And yes, it is noticeably THAT hot. If you touch the side panels it is really baking almost, it even transfers heat to the XDJs aside. So definetely a bit of a design flaw in my book. As for the USB output: I installed Loopback and got it working fine - just wished A&H had foreseen these type of issues and had made sure there was some sort of tool available. Your counterparts who shall remain nameless ;) make this a lot easier experience tbh. I wouldn't have ever considered moving but with the V10 for the first time I'm seriously considering ditching the Xone and forking over the cash to buy that beast instead. Shame really. I had high hopes and it did everything I needed on paper but...

there are 2 ways that i have recorded a set on mine. First you can use Traktors mix recorder by sending the 11/12 master signal from the 96 to Traktors fx send and then selecting "fx Send" in traktors mix recorder settings as the source. The 2nd way, which i use pretty much exclusively, is I use a Tascam DR-40 audio recorder(on sale right now for $149.99). The 96 has a dedicated REC out on the back of the mixer so I just use an RCA to TRS cable and run it from the Rec out on the 96 and plug the Left Right TRS inputs directly into the Tascam DR-40. The DR-40 is able to adjust the input volume and also has a limiter to avoid clipping. Once I've recorded a set onto the Dr-40 I just pop out the SD card and put the file onto my laptop

Hi Tim, We have had a couple of customers come up against the same issue with Audacity. Audacity is unable to select ASIO drivers, so instead it uses WDM. This only gives you the option of the first two USB channels (96 channel 1). We are currently working on developing a WDM driver that gives you access to the 96 full I/O on PC WDM applications, unfortunately, I can’t give you an ETA on when this will be available. In the meantime, there are several free DAW applications that are known to run fine with ASIO drivers and the 96. As it stands this is not an issue with the mixer hardware, but we do hope you manage to find a solution that works for you. Kind regard, Luke

When you connect the 96 to your computer, you will see 2 new midi devices. One labelled USB 1 (or 2) and the other labeled 'partner' . You can have computer 1 send midi clock to the partner and computer 2 receive midi clock from partner. @@mullen6134 no, I was talking about actually being able to download the driver's from the A&H site. I was just pissed bc I had JUST picked my 96 , got it setup to my monitors, updated Traktor 3 and when I went to download the driver's, A&H had shut down their site. I stopped crying when I took a breath and realized it's 1st world problems.

By default, 43C does not route the FX to send via USB. However, this can be changed and reconfigured with internal jumper settings. There is detail for this on page 18 of the user guide. www.allen-heath.com/media/AP9967_2_X43C_UG.pdf A couple of things to also be mindful of here. First, is the inherent latency from the conversion in and out of the computer. Second, the USB returns on 43C only return to the four main stereo channels. Hi Robert, Thanks for the message, The preview player can be routed to one of the Xone:96 return channels on USB 9&10 or 11&12. You can then cue this mixer channel to listen to the preview. Best regards, Luke

How do i get the signal from xone 96 to audacity, i'm struggling to get anything in? Tried prefrences and settling mixer on input on both, also had changing the channels etc. Any suggestions.

Hi Scott, Thanks for the message. Audacity utilises the computer built in sound drivers, for Mac this core Audio and PC it’s direct sound/MME. The 96 soundcard on Mac is core audio class compliant, you will therefore have full access to the 96 I/O in the software preferences menu. If using PC, then you would have installed 96 ASIO drivers, which audacity will not see. It will see the 96, but just like setting the device for system playback you will only be limited to the first 2 USB channels in and out. For PC platforms we would recommend using software that has enabled use of ASIO drivers. Best regards, Luke
